Home to some of central England's loveliest towns, Gloucestershire is an ideal base for exploration into the picturesque Cotswolds. Day trips include Chipping Camden, perhaps the Cotswold's most perfectly preserved town, and Tewkesbury, which is situated on the confluence of the Avon and Servern rivers.

Both towns are perfect for meandering, though in Tewkesbury a boat trip is the best way to take in the view. The spa town of Cheltenham is a fun stop, especially if you're interested in the Arts and Crafts Movement; the Museum and Art Gallery features an interesting collection of furniture. Gloucester, an important historic town, has an important cathedral and a whimsical museum devoted to children's author Beatrix Potter. Nearby Cirencester is considered the capital of the Cotswolds. Don't miss the incredible selection of local cheeses and flowers sold at the town's Friday market. |
