With antique furnishings, a sparkling pool, and a private garden filled with dozens of different flowers and Mediterranean plants, this villa near Carcassonne will provide for a delightful vacation. After you return from your visit, your heart will beat faster and you’ll can’t help but smile every time you think about your Languedoc-Roussillon villa rental.
Location Description

Located in the stunning countryside of the Corbières region of Languedoc, the property is 15 kilometers from the beautiful village of Lagrasse. Lagrasse is probably most famous for its abbey, St. Marie d’Orbieu, which you’ll have to visit given the history of this villa rental itself, but the scenery is simply breathtaking. From the abbey, you can cross the River Orbieu to the center of town and see all the surrounding vineyards, valleys, and mountains. You’ll reach plenty are cobbled streets hosting craft fairs, produce markets, shops, and cafes perfect for al fresco dining. A place you will have to see in person in order to truly feel how enchanting it is is Carcassonne, only a 20-minute drive from the property. This fortified village will allow you to take a step back in time as you walk along the narrow cobblestone alleys, stop in a chocolatier or candy store, and drink a café au lait in, what would appear to be, a place where one would go should they want to converse in secret. You must remember to visit the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, a cathedral from the 11th century often referred to as the “Jewel of the City,” and the Museum of the Middle Ages. The closest beaches are in Narbonne, a small town along the coast full of good pizzerias and dessert shops. For day trips definitely worth a little bit of a drive, visit Perpignan or Toulouse.

Nearby Attractions: Lagrasse (abbey, shops, markets, craft fairs, cafes), Carcassonne (cobblestone alleys, shops, restaurants, cafes, ancient basilica, museums), Narbonne (beaches, restaurants, shops), Perpignan (museums, gardens, monthly festivals and celebrations), Toulouse.

Exterior Description
Originally the priory of the Abbey of Lagrasse, this property was built in the 12th century and the priory chapel, with its meter thick walls, still stands today. In the early 18th century, the house was remodeled and vineyards, which now surround the estate, were further developed. The house was entirely renovated in 2000 as a country home. The road to the property follows an avenue of trees cut through the vineyards. The 'Cave' is situated on the left, while the principal house and surrounding walled gardens (2 acres) are on the right. The garden includes boxwood hedges and alleys, cedars, cypress, limes, roses, azaleas, oleanders, mimosas, French hibiscus, and other Mediterranean plants. There is a swimming pool (10m x 6m) and a terrace equipped with sun loungers and garden furniture. Wrought iron gates open and lead to a formal courtyard as well as the house. It is surrounded by stables (one of which is converted into a large games room), a 16th century tower (pigeonnier), the guardian's house, and the principal house with furnished terraces for alfresco dining. There is a parking garage and English-speaking caretakers live on the estate.

Customer Reviews

Enjoyed Most:
Loved the setting in the the middle of a working vineyard. The consensus was that of all the villas that we've stayed in when we've gone to Europe - Italy three times, 2001, 2003 and 2005, this one was the best yet. The accommodations were excellent, the pool fantastic, and the location was perfect for our day trips.
Surrounding Area:
The cook you arranged for us was more of a chef, and we ate royally. We would definitely recommend him to anyone staying in the villa. The caretakers at the house, Jonathan and Charlotte, were very friendly and helpful.
