About The Experience

This elegant accommodation in Rome is located in the heart of the city, between the Piazza Navona and the Tiber River. In the early 16th century, cardinals, ambassadors, papal officials, wealthy bankers and distinguished courtesans occupied the handsome palaces in the area around this apartment in Rome, Italy, many of which can be seen today. As you walk home from your daily expeditions out and about the city, you can imagine the area filled with the booksellers, engravers and artisans of the past. In fact, there are still numerous craftsmen to be found in the area.

Location Description
This apartment is situated on Via di Parione in the Navona zone, which was once part of ancient Rome. It is about two blocks from the Piazza Navona, and within walking distance of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the Pantheon, and many other central Rome attractions. Except for the outline of Domitian's Stadium which is preserved in the shape of Piazza Navona, no traces of ancient Rome have survived here. Today the area is filled with 15th and 16th century palaces, whose somewhat plain facades conceal fine examples of Renaissance architecture. Public transportation: The apartment is a 10-minutes walk from the underground station, “Spagna”, and it is well served by the ATAC bus lines 70, 81, 87, 186, 204, 492, 628 and by the electric bus lines 116 and 116T.

Nearby Attractions: A monument to Roman Baroque style, the Piazza di Spagna is one of the best people-watching spots in Rome. Around the piazza are several very well-known tea rooms including the famous Babington’s English Tea Room and the Café Greco. The house where English poets John Keats and Lord Byron lived and died, is on the right hand corner, as one begins to climb the 138 steps. This is an ideal neighborhood for shopping (or window shopping) at famous boutiques such as Prada, Valentino, and Gucci (Via dei Condotti).

Customer Reviews

Overall:
This was an outstanding experience and we would highly recommend it (with some pointers to manage expectations).
Enjoyed Most:
The interior redecorating and finishes are all first class and very satisfying. The new finishes on walls and floors, bright lighting, AC, fan, tub in the bathroom, and washer on the premises were all major positive factors.
Enjoyed Least:
The bed - it has been written up before. The mattress is quite worn and has two distinct ruts in it - almost like sleeping in a hammock. Also, the building entrance and lobby area are quite dark and had a damp, musty smell - don't be put off by this. The apartment on the 2nd floor is a very pleasant surprise.
Surrounding Area:
The location was perfect - every major attraction was within reasonable walking distance, and the proximity to Piazza Navona provided dining choices and evening entertainment just steps from our front door.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Located in the center of the historic district of Rome - everything was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you plan to watch TV in English, bring DVDs. The TV only gets channels in Italian. Also, a CD player is a good idea. The recommendation to pack a roll of toilet paper was a good one - we needed it before we bought other supplies. Take a cab to the property and be prepared for some very narrow streets. Blue Ice Gelato just down the street was the best in the area - we stopped every night.
Directions:
The cab (a van) used GPS and still circled the area because of the very narrow streets. Using Piazza Navona as a navigational point of reference is great - the property is only 50 yards off the Piazza.
Check In Out:
We arrived an hour earlier than planned and Marco was able to meet us and give us access 15 minutes after we called him. The whole process was fast and easy.

Overall:
Loved this property. The apartment was comfortable with a well stocked kitchen.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, location, location.!!
Enjoyed Least:
If we have to say something, I guess it would have been nice to have somewhat of a view, but that's a minor thing to give up given it's location. We never spent that much time in the apartment except to sleep.
Surrounding Area:
We were so centrally located in Rome that we walked to most of our destinations. We had several evenings in Piazza Navrona enjoying the local restaurants, listening to live music and people watching. Walked to the Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican City, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your own coffee. We went to the little cafes for coffee, but that gets expensive. This apartment is located just across the street from a cute little restaurant called Serafini. The service is excellent and the food amazing. Give it a try.
Directions:
We had a bit of trouble finding it, but mostly because the bus had us get off way out of the way.

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay even though we hit the worst snow in 25 years in Rome.
Enjoyed Most:
Excellent location, very comfortable living room.
Enjoyed Least:
There was an unpleasant smell. Editor's Note: The problem has been resolved. Feb 2012.
Surrounding Area:
Walking distance to everything in historical Rome, 200 yards to Piazza Navona. Wonderful little bistro right out our front door for morning cappuccino and pastry. Excellent restaurants within walking distance
Nearby Events or Locales:
Right in center of historical Rome.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pick a restaurant, any restaurant, and enjoy
Directions:
We contracted with a transportation service to take us to and from airport
Check In Out:
Hassan met us at the apartment, did a great job explaining the apartment, how to work everything, and described the neighborhood, and gave clear directions to find local necessities, grocery, ATM, etc.
