AboutTheExperience
In the heart of the capital of one of the most famous Greek Islands, this Santorini villa puts you in an ideal location with a truly breathtaking view. Travel back in time with an ancient cave-dwelling... now equipped with every modern amenity and furnished to absolute perfection. Explore the island from this villa for rent in Santorini by day; in the evening you'll want to return to your own Greek villa terrace for a glass of wine as you admire the view.
LocationDescription
This villa is located almost in the center of Fira, one of the most sought-after areas on the island. A two-minute walk uphill will bring you to the primary church, and continuing for another three minutes or so takes you to the main square. Because of its position, this villa provides the perfect base from which to explore Santorini's main attractions. Fira is famous for its blue-domed churches and slope house,; located right on the edge of 260 meter high cliffs that drop straight into the sea! Fira is also the capital of the island, host to the Archaeological Museum. Its main streets are filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. That's right... Santorini is famous for its thriving nightlife! But Santorini also has a fascinating geological history, as it is of volcanic origin. Throughout recorded history, parts of the island have dropped into the sea, while new islands have suddenly appeared off the coast! The island forms a crescent around the Caldera, or cauldron-- the collapsed center of the volcano. Your choices for activities are almost endless... you can relax on red and black sand beaches, take a boat around the islands, hike around the cliffs, go shopping, or even take a ferry to other islands in the area.

ExteriorDescription
This villa is perched high on a cliff above the spectacular Caldera-- the bay (or cauldron) formed by the collapse of a volcano. The owners have spent the last two years carefully renovating this traditional canava, or cave-house, into a luxury retreat. The villa has been refurbished to the highest standards, decorated with handmade Italian tiles and traditional stone work. These traditional elements are seamlessly combined with all of the modern conveniences-- without losing sight of the simple beauty of the original Cycladic style. One of the best features of the house is an outdoor terrace looking out over the water, furnished with a comfortable, wind-sheltered couch.

Customer Reviews
Overall:
This is a wonderful cave house that is perfect for a family or two couples.
Enjoyed Most:
Spectacular view from the outdoor area. Great living accommodations.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen would not be good for any family planning on having a lot of meals in. There is no need as there are wonderful restaurants with great views. Be prepared for a lot of steps. It is 600 steps down to the waterfront. You can take a donkey or gondola.
Surrounding Area:
The whole island of Santorini is spectacular. The property manager had good recommendations for restaurants and activities. We took a five hour catamaran cruise that was excellent. The bus system works well and the towns of Oia and Kamari are a lot of fun. It is great watching the donkeys bring the tourists up from the cruise ships each day. There were four to twelve cruise ships a day. It is better to shop in the evening so you don't get run over by tourists.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There are several small towns within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything. Breakfast is delivered every morning at 7:30am. Lena comes in and cleans the house for four hours every day. She does dishes and will do laundry for a tip. Rostria Roof Garden and Ellis were two good restaurants. Alex at Ellis is delightful.
Directions:
The property manager met us at the airport and arranged transportation both ways which is included in the rental.
Check In Out:
Very easy.

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and location and interior design.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Kitchen was very small, master bedroom somewhat musty smelling due to adjoining jacuzzi.
Surrounding Area:
Everything in town was walkable, and it was easy to get out of town by car to explore the island.
Tips or Restaurants:
My husband's cousin moved to Santorini 13 years ago and she sent us to the best restaurants, some upscale, some rustic.
In the town of Oia in the lower part on Amoudi Bay, eat at Dimitri's.
At the beach area of Previlos eat at The Seaside Cafe; it is amazing cuisine, decor and music. Go the The Tropical Bar in Thira ... fantastic dance music with live DJ and spectacular view from the terrace. Also in the town of Thira eat at Archipelago in the centre of town.
