- About The Experience
- Although the interior setting of this villa for rent in Tuscany is perfectly charming and has all the necessities one may need, it’s the outside grounds that are absolutely gorgeous. Hidden amidst an array of giant green trees, plants, a vineyard, and an olive grove, this holiday accommodation in Tuscany has a private swimming pool, a furnished veranda, a gazebo, and several outdoor tables and chairs that would provide great ways to enjoy al fresco dining. Perfectly suited for a family, this Tuscany villa rental is near several medieval towns where you can see historical ruins, monuments, and works of art, not to mention thermal springs where you are encouraged to spend the day pampering yourself, or the beaches of Orbetello.
- Location Description
- Located just a kilometer away from the property is Montemerano, a village more resembling of a medieval castle. Within the town’s walls is an ancient parish church of San Giorgio that is full of works of art from the year 1400, including the painting nicknamed the “Madanno della Gattaiola.” Also in Montemerano are shops, street markets, wine, and delicious restaurants. Saturnia, one of the most historically important sites in the province of Grosseto, is an old Etruscan town with medieval walls and the remains of a Roman road, which was conducted in 183 BC. During the Golden Age, Saturn claimed Saturnia was the first city ever founded in Italy. Perhaps it is best known today for its thermal springs used for beauty treatments and relaxation. There are also restaurants and a gelato shop. For further day trips, visit the Medician Walls, the Romanesque Cathedral, and the Palazzo Aldobrandeschi in Grosseto or go to beach in Orbetello, a town filled with shops, cinemas, live shows, an aquarium, a public library, and restaurants.

Overall:
We loved Villa Saturnia! It was very peaceful and the grounds were beautiful! The villa was larger than we had expected and met all of our needs.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds of the villa and the views! As the grounds of the villa are terraced it makes for a landscaping dream with beautiful rose bushes and flowering trees and cactus gardens and, of course, the olive groves. From the pool level you have a spectacular 180 degree view of rolling hills and vineyards.
There were no immediate neighbors and the property was very private.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of natural light on main living floor - as the villa is built into the side of a hill there are only windows on one side which makes for a dark kitchen. The only other negative (and it is a small one) is that the villa backs onto the main road.
Surrounding Area:
The small towns near the villa were charming with grocery shops and good restaurants and very friendly people. If you venture a little further there are some "Wow" moments when you turn the next corner to see jewels like "Pitigliano" and the Thermal Springs at Saturnia.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The closest small town was Montemurano. Although it is within walking distance, we found this not possible as the roads are narrow with room only for cars to pass and no shoulders to walk safely.
Tips or Restaurants:
The list provided is great! Anything you forget, you will be able to find at a nearby town. With regard to restaurants...they are everywhere and I have to say we did not find a bad one!
Directions:
We would rate the directions as good as the property is, in fact, between Manchiano and Montemerano. However, with no visible signage on the road and no exact instructions, we only found it because we found someone who spoke English at a gas station in Manchiano who was able to place a call to the Key Holder (who only speaks Italian) and arrange for us to meet him on the road at a specific location.
Check In Out:
The only challenging part of this process is that Luciano only speaks Italian and therefore it was difficult for us to communicate because we only speak English. We did manage to work everything out as Luciano is very patient and has a sense of humor.
