Location Description

This villa rental is a three minute drive from the center of St-Remy-de-Provence, a beautiful little city perhaps known for the Saint Paul de Mausole hospital, where Vincent Van Gogh spent the last and most productive year of his life painting such masterpieces as "Starry Night," "Irises," and "Wheat Field with Cypresses." The town and the surrounding landscape inspired 150 paintings and sketches in all. Throughout its history St Remy has been a haven for artists, musicians, and writers (including Nostradamus!), and today it is alive with artists and traditions, faithfully passed on from one generation to the next. Nearby is the fascinating city of Glanum, first a shrine to the Celtic god Glanis, later absorbed by the Romans, and reaching its peak in the Augustan age when many monuments were erected. Abandoned in 260 AD, it was untouched until a 1921 excavation unearthed its ruins. The central city of the region is Avignon, a city ringed by a medieval wall. Inside you will find narrow, winding streets and ancient buildings filled with shops and restaurants. Aside from being charming in itself, Avignon is both easy to reach by high-speed train and an excellent base for exploring the area: fifteen minutes in any direction takes you into protected countryside, covered in lavender and dotted with small towns rich in local culture. Try Gordes, on a hill overlooking a gorgeous valley; Cabrieres d'Avignon, featured in Peter Mayle's "A Year in Provence;" and Fontaine de Vaucluse, where you can see cold springs bubbling up out of the ground. Sample olives, truffles, lamb, and crème brulee-- all delicious specialties of the area. This is the true "Provence experience," one of the most authentic and genuinely regional areas in France.

Exterior Description

(6,500 m) This property is surrounded by spacious, well-kept gardens. There is a private swimming pool (15.50m x 4.50m) and a terraced area for lounging. Within the pool is a relaxation corner with air jets and against current swimming. The swimming pool is alarmed and children’s toys and games are available. A gas BBQ and plancha are available as is a very large table in solid wood seating 24 people. Accessed from the garden is an artist’s studio and fitness room. The artist’s studio is a small room with large floor to ceiling windows. It is ideal for hiding away with a book or as a playroom for children. The fitness room has an infrared sauna for 3 or 4 people with chromotherapy. It is equipped with a CD player, exercise machines, a large shower and separate toilet. There is an immense summer room, separate from the main house, with beams and high ceilings (6 m). Three large arched wrought iron windows look out over the swimming pool and the fountain. There is a large Provencal fireplace, TV and DVD with home cinema and Wi-Fi. It has a kitchen with oven, American fridge, coffee machine, and other appliances.

Interior Description

(600 m) Main House:
Ground Floor: The living room has a fireplace and books, TV with international channels, DVD player, and Wi-Fi Internet. The kitchen is completely equipped with American fridge, wine cellar, appliances, coffee machine, etc. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor. The first bedroom has a king-size bed (180 cm) and a bathroom with tub, shower, and toilet. It boasts a large private terrace looking onto the garden. The second bedroom has a king-size bed (180 cm), a separate dressing room, bathroom with tub, shower, and toilet.
First floor: There is a charming bedroom with a queen-size bed (160 cm), and a shower room with a toilet. The bedroom leads into a small room which could be used as a baby or child's room or as a dressing room. It has views onto the garden. The spacious master bedroom has a king-size bed (180 cm), bathroom with cast iron tub, shower, and toilet. It also leads into a small bedroom for a baby or child with a separate toilet. It has views onto the garden.
The parental suite has a double French window, a king-size bed (180 cm), and a bathroom with cast iron tub, shower, and toilet. The final bedroom has a mezzanine floor. It has a queen-size bed (160 cm) which can be separated into two single beds. There is an additional single bed which makes this room ideal for children or teenagers. There is a shower room, and separate access via a private terrace. Please note that this rooms leads off the Master bedroom.
