- About The Experience
- Taormina, Mt. Etna, Siracusa and the coast of Sicily are easy day trips from this wonderful location. The rural setting of the villa and the large terraces provide for relaxed gatherings at the beginning and end of the day. In addition, the beautiful pool beckons on those warm days… It is hard to beat this destination!
- Location Description
- Close to Taormina, this villa is located just 1 km from the town of Graniti, which offers fine restaurants, food markets, and a post office. However, you need not go that far to find good food-- just down the road from the villa there is a moderately-priced, authentic Sicilian restaurant. Local sights not to miss include the lava rock gorges at Gole Alcantara (created when eruptions from Mt Eta flowed into the sea) and the beaches of Giardini Naxos. For those with sporting interests, Il Picciola golf course is 15 km away and other activities such as horseback riding, scuba diving, and boat rentals are available locally. When you arrive, the on-site manager can provide you with information about private tours to Mount Etna, the Ruins of Agrigento, the Aeolian Islands, and more. If you prefer to go it alone, there is municipal bus service to all local beaches and towns. The bus stop is 150 feet from the villa's main entrance, but buses do not run frequently so a car is recommended for the most efficient explorations.

- Exterior Description
- (3 hectares) Originally constructed over 500 years ago, this 15th century villa was lovingly restored in 2001 and consists of three separate residences on different floors, of which this is one. Each residence is very private and has its own entrance. The villa sits on a hillside and views overlook the Graniti River valley, covered in orange, lemon, and almond groves. The apartments share gardens graced by 500-year old olive trees, flowers, fruit and nut trees, and multiple terraces for dining or sunbathing. The shared swimming pool (5m x 10m; 0.9m-2.7m deep) is newly built, surrounded by fountains, statuary, lounge chairs, tables, and outdoor showers. Palm trees and tropical plants complete the setting. The villa's original colonnade, characterized by grand arches, is lighted by a series of ceramic chandeliers designed expressly for the villa. The villa itself is accessed via a paved, two-lane road. There is a large, gated parking area adjacent to the villa with room for at least 10 cars.

Customer Reviews
Overall:
Great experience. Convenient to Taormina, Etna and shopping. Owners delightful and very helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
Lots of space, beautiful foliage, lemon trees to pick from. Spectacular pool for kids and adults. There were 15 family members in our group.
Enjoyed Least:
Traffic noise. Mattress in my room was a bit soft for my taste, but I slept very well.
Surrounding Area:
Views, Etna, small towns to shop in. Not infested with tourists so we had an opportunity to meet and deal with ordinary people in shops.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaggi was not in walking distance, an inconvenience. The main reason is there are no sidewalks and the roads are very narrow so it would be hazardous to walk on the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant next door to the Villa was excellent. The owner speaks English and the food was typically Sicilian and very good.
Check In Out:
The owners gave a clear and useful introduction. They made checkout very easy.

Overall:
Our hosts, Phil and Carmelo, were wonderful. The villa was perfect for our party of 12. The main living area had a large kitchen, dining room and living room which easily accommodated the 12 of us. The fireplace added a nice touch during the cool evenings. Our hosts provided us with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and plates of fresh oranges picked from the trees on the villa premises. All of the units were comfortable and decorated with beautiful works of art, mostly created by Phil and Carmelo. We were able to explore their art gallery and unique pieces of ceramic art which were then shipped via UPS to our home. We had a marvelous vacation at Villa Due Angeli and would love to see it again in summer when all of the foliage is in bloom. Phil and Carmelo were extremely helpful and attentive to all of our needs.
Enjoyed Most:
The rooms and accommodations were very warm and comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Villa is on a busy road, so the road noise could be an issue if you stayed there for "peace and quiet".
Surrounding Area:
The local towns are charming and fun to explore. The view of Mt. Etna is amazing and the property is close to the autostrada and beach.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There are two towns - Gaggi and Graniti. They are very close but not in walking distance. We did all of our food shopping in Gaggi and went to a wonderful pastry store called Caffe Nuovo in Gaggi. They had all types of typical Sicilian cookies, cakes and pastries along with gelato and brick oven pizza that is served in the evenings.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do not be afraid to talk to Phil and Carmelo - they were very helpful in explaining what and where to do things. We had an incredible meal at La Cassita next to the villa on Christmas Eve. From start to finish, we had 16 courses. The food and service was wonderful and it was a perfect way to do as the locals do.
Directions:
The orange exterior of the villa was hard to miss!

Overall:
We had a wonderful week in a truly beautiful house. The owners made us feel very at home and were fantastic hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautifully decorated, and extremely well equipped. Wonderful pool area. Charming hosts. Just a lovely experience
Enjoyed Least:
I was glad I knew before I arrived about the road nearby, as I was prepared for much worse! In reality, the car noise is very audible from the patio and pool area but not very intrusive.
Surrounding Area:
The restaurant next door was fabulous, we visited twice. A great experience. We enjoyed going to Taormina and the beach at Giardini Naxos
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaggi is the nearest town, useful for practical shopping but not a very interesting or picturesque town
Tips or Restaurants:
Go to the restaurant next door early on in your trip so you can go again later on.
Check In Out:
The owners invited us to stay on around the pool after check out as we had a flight later in the day. This was very kind of them as they were having a party for 300 the following day and were busy preparing.
