Located on the famous Piazza of Santa Spirito in the Oltrano area, this charming one-bedroom Florence rental apartment is a great choice for a couple. The Oltrarno is a wonderful part of the city to stay for a week or two, because it maintains a lively neighborhood feeling, yet it is close to the main tourist sites. There is a weekly food market in the piazza just outside of this accommodation in Florence.

Although located in an ancient neighborhood, the narrow streets around this Florence rental apartment are alive with the work of artisans and artists and with crowded bars of young Florentines. This Florence apartment is situated in a splendid Florentine piazza named after the beautiful church of Santo Spirito, with trees, benches, and a fountain. There are excellent restaurants, markets, and shops nearby. An internet café is close to the apartment building. There is even a weekly food market every Saturday and a monthly antique market on Sunday, just outside the apartment building.

First floor (10 steps up, no elevator): There is a vaulted-ceiling living room with two ultra-suede couches, a large coffee table, satellite TV, and terracotta floors with Drury rugs. The room is decorated with 16th century prints and several antiques. The dining room is separate, and also features vaulted ceilings and view of the piazza. The kitchenette is equipped with a 4 burner gas stove, oven, refrigerator, double sinks, electric fan, and an original countertop grill for ambitious cooks.. The kitchenette is partially open to the living room and has a characteristic view of the rooftops. There is one double bedroom with a king-size bed, terracotta floors, a view of the piazza, and en suite bathroom with shower. The windows which overlook the piazza (in the sitting area and bedroom) have double-glazed windows to keep out some of the noise from the piazza; they also help protect against heat in the warm months.

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. Our Rentvillas Travel Advisor did a great job with reservations. Probably not the best place for people who want peace and quiet and who would object to seeing the occasional, but very polite, street person, and lots of students having fun. We loved it and really enjoyed being in such an exciting and authentic part of Florence, away from the crowds of tourists.
Enjoyed Most:
Apartment very comfortable for two. Caretaker and landlady very nice and informative. No problem getting security deposit back. Building felt very secure.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Noisy until late into the evening, but as long as windows were closed, things were quiet. No phone was a little inconvienent, but no big deal.
Surrounding Area:
The neighborhood-very lively and freindly. Easy walking distance to all local attractions. Great restaurants, bars and shops nearby, including a laundromat. We felt like locals. Small market daily, larger Sunday market, concert and childrens show right outside our windows were great entertainment. Poliza always present - felt very safe, day and night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring extra roll of toilet paper and washcloth. Lots of great trattorias, osterias and cafes within 1-2 blocks especially, Osteria Del Cinghiale Bianco, Borgo Antico, Trattoria Casalinqa - loved this one and cheap. Also, the osteria 3 doors down from the apartment was also very good, but unfortunately don't remember the name of it.
Directions:
took taxi from airport. 30 euro arriving daytime with lots of traffic, and about 20 euros departing very early in the morning.
Check In Out:
The caretaker was very helpful and showed us around on arrival. Came a day early so that we could get our deposit back before leaving at 4:30 AM the next day.

Enjoyed Most:
The neighborhood was very nice. Loved being in the old city part of Florence. Loved having the piazza right outside and seeing the merchants come every morning selling their items.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The noise from the bar downstairs that would open up at night.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the atmosphere. Very close to a lot of the historic places, so it was an easy walk. The restaurants close by were great, and we enjoyed just looking at the wonderful architecture, shops, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Was pleased to see there was a hairdryer already there. Bring shampoo, soap and plan on picking up toilet tissue because there is only one roll. We weren't disappointed with any restaurant that we went to. The ones that were suggested were great and we went to the Ristorante La Lampara which had great pizza. If you plan on cooking at the apartment, plan to pick up a few basics at the local markets. The stove works great, though, and we had a few really nice meals at the apartment.
Directions:
Mr. Alessandro was wonderful and was ready for us when we called him. The directions that we were given by Rentvillas were easy for the taxi driver to find.
Check In Out:
Mr Alessandro made it very easy and pleasant for both the check in and check out process.

Overall:
This is really an excellent apartment. We couldnt have asked for better.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was incredible. The sloped ceilings and stone floors.. and the grate in the kitchen counter where theh fireplace used to be - it all made for an experience that really was Italian - not just an Americanized hotel vacation. It really couldnt have been better.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen was a tad smaller than i am used to... but fairly standard for an apartment. Despite the size, it was well equipped and easy to adapt to.
Surrounding Area:
The property was in an excellent location - with regards to museums, stores, entertainment. The piazza it is located on was also incredible. Obviously a local hangout with children playing and musicians performing nearly all the time.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The apartment is right in the center of Florence, only a few blocks from the Uffizi, and within walking distance of practically everything we wanted to see.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment was very well equipped. I recommend bringing citrinella candles for the mosquitoes. There is a little grocery store about three blocks from the apartment if you intend to do any cooking.
Directions:
While carrying baggage does suggest that a taxi would be easiest... it really was only a fifteen or twenty minute walk from the train station. Again - with bags a taxi might be easier.. but if you're traveling light, the walk is relatively short and mostly along the river.
