This attractive short term apartment in Florence, typical of a medieval Florentine neighborhood, is located 10 minutes by foot from the Piazza della Signoria and 1 minute from the Piazza Santa Croce. Shops, cafes and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Due to the proximity of two pubs, there can be some noise in the street (fortunately, the windows are double paned) on Saturday nights.

This apartment is located on the fourth floor of a typical Florentine building with a lift. The apartment has a charming balcony (3m x 1m) with views of the Arno river, Piazzale Michelangelo, S. Miniato church, the Lungarno Cellini, the hill of Bellosguardo, the Biblioteca Nazionale, and Piazza Santa Croce.

(70m2) 4th floor: This apartment opens into an entryway leading into an open-plan living/dining room with two sofas and a table for four. The kitchen is equipped with oven, microwave, gas stove, toaster, dishwasher, and washing machine, as well as a small breakfast table for two. One bedroom contains a 160 cm queen-sized bed, while the second smaller room has two twins (cannot be combined). The rooms share one bathroom with a toilet, sink, and bathtub with handheld showerhead. As of 2007, both bedrooms now have air conditioning and double-glazed windows for extra noise protection. The apartment also features a small balcony with views of the river.

Enjoyed Most:
The central location was wonderful - close to Santa Croce church and the Leather School.
The furniture was comfortable and attractive. The elevator that we had been warned was temperamental worked every day! Also, the small bedroom now has its own AC unit that worked beautifully. The small room is quite cozy and charming. We were in Florence the hottest week of the summer and the AC worked great. It was nice to have a cool place to retreat

Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed being able to walk to so many of Florence's piazzas and other sites.
There was a great gelato place on Via de Neri and the best salad in Florence at Boccadama on Piazza de Sante Croce.
Tips or Restaurants:
Boccadama was a wonderful lunch spot. The Rustica salad was terrific. Gelato on Via de Neri! La Giostra is a dining experience. We went twice!
Aqua a Due for blueberry steak!!!!
Cat and Wolf for pasta.
Directions:
Even though we arrived on Sunday instead of Saturday, Angela was easy to locate on arrival and very warm in greeting us.

Enjoyed Most:
The spaciousness and the views. Unlike most flats I've rented, this one had different views from each end of the apartment. The north bedroom side overlooked the handsome Biblioteca Nazionale and the street leading down to Santa Croce, while the sound terrace side overlooked the Arno and the Oltrarno hills. The apartment was airy and delightful to come back to for a rest after tramping the streets of Firenze, before going out to dinner. Though we breakfasted at home, most of our meals, except for two dinners, were outside. But we relaxed with wine and antipasto late in the afternoon. The furnishings were very attractive. We had two concerns when we rented the apartment, which were prompted by comments of previous renters. There were complaints of noise from the bar across the street, especially on Saturday night. We heard no noise whatever. There are double windows in the bedrooms, so perhaps that's the reason. But sleep was tranquil. Second, we read that the elevator didn't stop on the 4th floor. True, the elevator is a little quirky. However, I would say it is 99 percent reliable, arrives on call, and gets you up and down with normal speed. Not to worry.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Can't really say we liked anything least. We were two people, and so did not make use of the second bedroom to sleep in, but did keep clothing and suitcases there. One caution for other travelers, though the second bedroom is long and narrow and contains 2 single beds that, because of the dimensions of the room, cannot be put together. For sleeping, the room would be most suitable for a couple traveling with 2 teenagers or smallish adults who don't mind sleeping in quarters distinctly smaller than the elegant master bedroom.
Surrounding Area:
Convenience. We were able to walk to the Pitti Palace across the river, as well as to Piazza San Marco, the area toward the north in which the Accademia is located.
The Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, and the Duomo are easily accessible. The location is excellent. The Corso dei Tintori has a convenient supermarket very close to the apartment, as well as a street ATM, and another block down past the Via dei Benchi there is a good bakery, a hardware store, and several small food shops. Just outside the door is a tabaccheria with newspapers, postage stamps, cards. etc., and on the other side a wine shop. Across the street is a nice cafe.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you have electric converters for digital cameras, cell phones, etc. The apartment is equipped with virtually everything else you need. We had dinner twice at the Ristorante Fagioli down the street - very good food and you need to make a reservation. There's a good pizza place one block down as well. The Club Culinario Toscano da Osvaldo, where we ate the first night, is expensive and over-rated. A delightful family-style restaurant with excellent food, is Trattoria Icche C'e C'e, 11 Via Magolotti--about a 10-minute walk.

Overall:
I just really liked it. It was homey but had great location and great views.
Enjoyed Most:
The view of the Boboli across the river with a patch of Arno thrown in for good measure. The view of the round end of the Biblioteca and then on down the street to the Santa Croce Piazza from the bedroom windows. The floor plan turned out to be great for separating the sleepers in the bedrooms from the chatters in the living room kitchen. It is smaller and plainer than the place we stayed in last time but it turned out to suit us much much better. And a variety of restaurants were closer. I would definitely choose it again. P.S. The heat was quite, quite good, even for the 2 usually cold people in our party. I was never cold in the apartment even though it in the 40's and 50's outside.
Unpleasant Surprises:
No place to easily hang wet laundry.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a cafeteria - very good quality food - that is right on the Duomo piazza, with great views of the Duomo steps and the Baptistery and the crowds loitering around. A great choice for a variety of foods, low price for a sit-down venue, and meals at odd times. Extra seating for those with meals is upstairs.
