- Location Description
This Florence holiday accommodation is located in a restricted-traffic zone in Santa Croce, one of Florence's most characteristic neighborhoods. The apartment is on the second floor of a palazzo built in the 15th century. The palazzo is situated about two blocks from the Piazza Santa Croce and the famous Capella dei Pazzi.
Nearby Attractions: The Santa Croce quarter is located on the southeastern part of the historic center of Florence. Since the Middle Ages, it was an area specializing in leather. In fact, today it is still filled with leather shops! The large Santa Croce Church, filled with famous frescos and tombs of some of the city’s greats, is the main structure of the quarter. The piazza in front of the church is filled day and night with tourists and locals. Some of the best gelato shops and restaurants can be found in this neighborhood. Piazza dei Ciompi has a daily flea market as well as a large monthly market (last Sunday). Plaz, located across from the 16th century Loggia del Pesce is a fun and casual place to stop for a drink and live music.

- Exterior Description
This 15th century building was completely restored in 1996. It is a typical example of late medieval Florentine art. Each apartment is made secure with a door buzzer. There is an elevator servicing each floor, and there is a terrace (for use by all tenants of the building) on the second floor (if taking the stairs) or the fourth floor (if taking the lift). The reason for this discrepancy is that the ceilings in the building are very high, and some of the apartments are located on a mezzanine level between two floors.

Enjoyed Most:
The location was ideal. It was close to all major tourist sites and yet away from the general hub-bub of the city. We were a fifteen minute walk to the train station, and right out our front door was a wonderful little market, Vivoli gelato and best of all, Cafe Italiano Restaurant which was like having your own private dining room. It was a nice surprise to have a combo washer-dryer but it took forever to do the laundry due to the size of the machine. Internet access and Skye TV was also nice to have when we had time to use them.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise level was the most difficult thing to adjust to. if you wanted to have the windows open there was the typical city noise: mopeds, talking, street cleaners, etc., and yet we reminded ourselves that this was part of the whole experience, ambiance, and rhythm of city life.
Surrounding Area:
Everything. Florence is such an easy and accessible place to explore. we even found a macelleria to buy filets one night and cooked a gourmet meal of our own.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You can reach Fiesole with the #7 bus. We did a lot of day trips by Eurail and the only other trip we did was via SITA bus tours to San Gimignano and Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found the kitchen fairly well equipped. However we did bring sponges, dishwasher tablets, detergent, paper towels, and some toilet paper with us.
Restaurants that we found: Cafe Italiano right downstairs in the building. The food was wonderful and we even had our own table which Michele our waiter always had for us. It was great to have a place so close to the apartment, especially if we were touristed out for the day and just wanted a nice meal and then wandered-staggered up to the apartment.
Also, Osteria Bargello was great for lunch.
Check In Out:
The representatives were very helpful and explained everything to us. They both spoke English very well. They even arranged to have a taxi pick us up on our day of departure.

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. People must realize that being in the middle of the city it will be noisy. We woke up to church bells ringing and the buzz of everyday life in Florence. I loved every minute of it.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great. We were within walking distance of everything.
Enjoyed Least:
I wish it had some outside space. A terrace would have been great for down time.
Surrounding Area:
The area was perfect. We had a small market across the street, cafe around the corner and great restaurants on the street.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant Aqua Al Due was at the end of the street. Fantastic, but reservations a must. Cafe Vivoli is steps away from the front door. In my opinion, I think that Cappuccino has the best gelato in Florence.

Overall:
In addition to the location, we liked the layout of the apartment. We also liked having satellite TV to receive the current news while we were away.
Enjoyed Most:
The location of the property was excellent. We were within walking distance to many of the cultural sites. There was a nice small grocery store and cafe within a few yards of the apartment.
Enjoyed Least:
The front bedroom of the apartment could be a little noisy at night, but there were so many positives, that would not deter us from renting this apartment again.
Surrounding Area:
The close proximity to the church of Santa Croce, the cafes and unique stores for shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would invest in a good guide book for Florence. We had two good travel books, and we discovered there were several good restaurants and shops in the Santa Croce area.
Check In Out:
The staff available on site to assist with the Check-In and Check-Out process were friendly and very helpful.
