This Tuscany villa rental is situated right on the edge of the medieval town of Montalcino, known primarily for its fine wine. Wine here is made from the brunello grape, aged for a minimum of 4 years, and has a rich, fruity, powerful taste. That is not Montalcino's only attraction, however, as it is also a characteristic little town, great for exploration and relaxation. Some of the sights include the Duomo of San Salvatore, the Piazza del Popolo with the Palazzo Communale, and the Church of San Francesco with frescoes by Vincenzo Tamagni. Of particular note are the 12th century Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, a beautiful Romanesque montastic church, and the 14th century fortress that dominates the valley. This location is also convenient for day trips to Siena, Florence, and the seaside.

Overall:
Having the pool in the summer months was a godsend.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the proximity to the town of Montalcino. The outdoor porch and dining area were lovely.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The truck traffic along the road that ran along the side of the villa and the dogs next door.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Montalcino. The cathedral at St Antimo. The whole area was beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalcino was a three-minute walk away.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are many good restaurants and wine bars in Montalcino. Il Gardino was particularly nice. A number of the big vineyards in the area have restaurants attached to them. The Banfi vineyard was very nice.
Check In Out:
Managers were very friendly and very helpful.

Overall:
The villa itself is everything we had imagined - a true Tuscan paradise.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is very convenient to walk into Montalcino - the ability to be part of a small Tuscan town for a week, particularly after the "day-trippers" had left was fantastic. As advertised, the keyholder Monica does not speak English, yet she is able to perfectly convey all information. She is an absolute sweetheart!!
Unpleasant Surprises:
The dogs barking at the adjacent property during the night - this was the only negative.
Surrounding Area:
Being able to get out and explore the numerous vineyards and sampling many outstanding Brunello wines.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalcino - the villa is right outside the city walls.
Tips or Restaurants:
I highly recommend the dining room at the Hotel Giglio in town. For a wonderful meal on a working farm-vineyard, visit the Fattoria dei Barbi outside of town, on the road leading to the Abbey. The taverna there is fabulous, and you can also purchase Pecorino cheese, meats and of course, their great Brunello wines.

Overall:
We loved it so much we plan on coming back next year to the same property.
Enjoyed Most:
The house was perfect for our family, which included 3 children. The yard is very large and enclosed and a lot of room for everybody. The proximity to town was great - 5 minutes by foot. I also agree that the pictures do not do this house justice. Also, it was spotlessly clean.
Unpleasant Surprises:
I could see the dogs being an issue in the summer. They weren't for us, but it was cool and we had the windows closed at night.
Surrounding Area:
Great location for exploring towns in all directions.
Nearby Events or Locales:
5-minute walk to town.
Tips or Restaurants:
A navigation system for the roads was a must for us. Take advantage of the shopping feature. It was very nice to have some basic supplies upon arrival.
