About the Experience
This central Italy vacation villa in Umbria is both scenic and unusual. Scenic because it is nestled within the center of Spoleto, a beautiful Italian city that still retains a medieval appearance-- and is host to wonderful artistic and cultural festivals during the summer. This villa is also unsual because it is host to a number of life-size statues of women, to be found lying or sitting in various places both outside (by the pool) and in the house! No doubt these lovely women have come to rest here because they know that this Italian villa is a very spacious, comfortable place to live.
Location
The villa is located in the historic center of Spoleto, a city in the Terni province in the Umbria region. Spoleto offers numerous historical and artistic attractions, as well as shops, necessities, and restaurants serving such Umbrian specialties as truffles and homemade umbricelli pasta.

Overall:
This was a unique piece of rental property and we were truly priviledged to stay in this beautiful home.
Enjoyed Most:
We were in the center of Spoleto and could walk to stores, restaurants and sights of the city.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Noise from adjoining street at night.
Surrounding Area:
Ability to take day trips to near-by towns of Orvieto, Deruta and Todi.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in a beautiful, old city of Spoleto. Other small towns in the vicinity were charming, but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
It is worthwhile to hire a cook to prepare dinner for you. It would be a good idea to bring a flashlight for use at night on the rooftop garden.
Directions:
If you're coming from Rome, let the owner's taxi driver pick you up. Parking for a rental car is difficult and involves planning ahead.

Enjoyed Most:
Location, ambience, view, decor.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The owner left food in the refrigerators in the house, and we were not sure whether we should use it, or not. I think that the owner's food should be cleaned out prior to renters' arrivals. The parking in the area around the property is very difficult, but we were aware of this when we booked the property so it was not a problem for us.
Surrounding Area:
We love Spoleto and enjoyed all aspects of the area.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everywhere is good! It would be helpful to have info sheets in English for all of the appliances.

Enjoyed Most:
The first thing I did upon returning home from the villa, was to immediately reserve it for the following year. It is like a great secret that you want to share, but keep all for yourself at the same time. It is an an absolutely enchanting house, filled with art and evidence of lives well lived within its walls. Rather than feeling like a rental, it feels like you are visiting a long lost friend or relative. The rooms surround a central open courtyard with a grand sculpture, magnolia tree, and huge stone dining table, resulting in a circular floor plan that is at first a little confusing, but only adds to the mystery! When is the last time you stayed in a house with 12 other people and actually had to go on a search to find one of them? We were amazed that we could spread out and not feel crowded. The living room, music room, and library provide a wonderful retreat on hot afternoons. With the shutters closed to the sun, it is cool and dark.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Forget driving and parking. You can hire a driver to take you anywhere outside of town, and you can walk all over the city. Also, all rooms in the villa are not created equal- two of the rooms on the uppermost floor low ceilings are best for kids and teens.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside of Umbria is absolutely gorgeous. We visited some surrounding towns that see very few tourists. There are hikes galore near the bridge and castle. The owner is happy to suggest excursions, restaurants, shops, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Spoleto - You're in it!
Tips or Restaurants:
Special Events Festival di Due Monde, last of June, first of July- wonderful.
Directions:
It could not have been easier- we called the owner from the town gate, and she met us and led us to the house.
