This former farm building is in the courtyard of a splendid fortified property dating from 1010, once a hunter’s lodge and more recently a working farm. The owner has now sold his livestock and just the horses remain. Our house stands just inside the entrance to the “domaine” but for more privacy, access is possible via the back garden which leads onto a quiet country lane. It has been nicely converted, with floor tiles throughout and the original old beams retained. The modern kitchen is bar style, at the far end of the living/dining room. In every way suitable for a family holiday in pleasant countryside, it is close to the River Loire and within easy reach of the vineyards of Pouilly and Sancerre. The nearby town of Nevers is well known for its potteries.

Overall:
This was a very good property for people who want to be in the country away from the general tourist circut.
Enjoyed Most:
It was increadibly quiet and peaceful. The owners who live next door were at the same time nice and helpful, but careful not to intrude.
The kitchen was well equipt. The location was great if you like the countryside.
Unpleasant Surprises:
No complaints, personally. We had been in cities and were wanting to be someplace out of the way. In general, if people are planning on using this as a base from wich to drive to other places in Burgundy, they can expect to go substantial distances.
Surrounding Area:
It was absolutely beautiful. Not having been in Burgundy before, we really were not entirely sure what to expect. Its extremely nice.

Nevers, the surrounding villages, each of which has its own character, Puilly sur Loire St. Jeane D'arcy
Tips or Restaurants:
Not really, except to stay as long as you can. The restaurents in the surrounding villages are uniformly good.
