Customer Reviews

Overall:
We truly enjoyed the house which had everything one could ask for including the most hospitable hosts, Ray and Christine. They were available for suggestions about day trips, restaurants, etc. in the area, but were unobtrusive and respecting of our privacy. We were very comfortable in lovely surroundings.
Enjoyed Most:
The property has been marvelously renovated and well decorated. The feeling of history remains even though all the comforts of a modern home were available.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The only thing that was a minor inconvenience was the need to park off property in a lot which was a short walk from the property.
Surrounding Area:
There were several historically significant sites within a short drive of Nimes, Avignon, Pont du Gard, etc. as well as many quaint small villages with daily markets. Beautiful countryside with many Vineyards. Day trips to the Camargue, Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, and Aigues Mortes, Provence, and Collioure are relatively easy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The house is in the small town of Caveirac and there is a bakery, store, and a fine restaurant within easy walking distance. The larger town of Nimes is only 8km away and was any easy drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
This house had everything, including a supply of paper goods, except spices and food which could be obtained at the local InterMarche. The nearby Cheverdille restaurant is excellent as was the restaurant in the Auberge du Pont Romain in nearby Sommieres.
Directions:
We did use a GPS which I found to be invaluable. We purchased a France memory card and used our own GPS.
Check In Out:
As suggested we called the keyholder the day before arrival to confirm, which provided both an introduction to the property owner as well as peace of mind.

Overall:
We had a great time, and didn't realize beforehand what a great location Nimes is. The owners are excellent hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
This house has two of the best bathrooms I've ever seen.
Unpleasant Surprises:
There is a narrow circular staircase leading up to the bedrooms, which can be a bit tricky for the less than agile, and scared our dog. Also, there are really only two baths, and only one can be used for showering at one time.
Surrounding Area:
The village is okay, and there is a small shopping center just 5 minutes away by car. The major highway is about 10 minutes away, so you can cover most of Provence and Languedoc in easy day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Right in the center of Caveirac - so went for our baguette every morning.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do try the little restaurant, La Cheverdille, in the center of town - only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. The Sunday market in neighbouring Calvisson helped us stock up on local produce goodies.
Directions:
If you take the first turn-off to Caveirac, you'll get lost finding the town square. There is currently some construction on the road, so signs might not be there. Take the 3rd turn-off.

Overall:
Blissful, if not rapturous.
Enjoyed Most:
This is a stunning building outside and inside -- the stone arches and ceiling are a marvel -- that has been splendidly renovated in a very modern style. All fixtures, appliances and electronics are first rate.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Owners live on the premises, so privacy -- we are very sensitive to this -- is never complete. On the other hand, the proximity and availability makes it very easy to answer questions which inevitably arise. It is doubtful you will ever encounter owners more friendly and eager to please.
Tips or Restaurants:
Owners supplied paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, dishwasher detergent -- a very nice -- indeed rare -- gesture that is much appreciated.

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful house, patio and pool, wonderful hosts.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
Good location for day trips to Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Les Baux and the Carmargue.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Caveriac was a one-minute stroll from the door.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our best restaurant find was Le Cabro de Or outside Le Baux, a Michelin one star.

Don, June, 2008

Enjoyed Most:
Beautifully appointed historical building. This was an extremely stylish unit, not what you would find in a rental unit, more on the lines of a luxury resort.
Unpleasant Surprises:
We were not aware that there was a festival in town for the first three nights, hence making it difficult to sleep at nights due to the festivities.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to Nimes is about 15 minutes by car, secluded little country village with access to all the areas attraction by no more than a 1 hour drive to each.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Calvisson, yes
Tips or Restaurants:
This property is more tailored for a renter that is not constantly on the go to new and different places. You could easily go to market pick up food for the day or week and cook and enjoy this property in and of itself. Making several day trips was tiring, but no fault of the property itself.

Christopher, October, 2006

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay and felt the property was a great value. It is really a luxury villa at a quite economical price. There are at least a week's worth of great day trips to take from this area.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful 17th century stonework was preserved and visible, but the house had been thoroughly and thoughtfully modernized.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Having to park about two blocks away in the public lot.
Surrounding Area:
Caveirac has two great bakeries, a wonderful restaurant, and a beautiful artisan fruits/vegetables/cheeses/ausage shop within easy walking distance of the house. Within a short drive were also a local wine cooperative, grocery store, and gas station. Nimes has amazing Roman monuments, and the nearby towns of Calvisson and Sommieres are quite charming.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Caveirac. The house is directly next to the hotel de ville.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen is extremely well appointed, so there is no reason to bring anything other than specialty spices for cooking. The house was a little difficult to find based on via Michelin directions, but the Rue du Pont meets the main street of Caveirac just before you get to the fountain. The town restaurant, Chaverdille, was excellent, as was the restaurant Two Palms in Calvisson. There was a nice, if small, produce and seafood market in Caveirac on Saturday morning and a larger market in Calvisson on Sunday morning. If you go to the grocery store, remember to bring your own plastic bags to carry your groceries there are some stashed in the kitchen.

Sarah, September, 2006

Enjoyed Most:
Lovely house, large rooms and bathrooms, quiet garden, and pool.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Had trouble with the outdoor barbecue. Had to be careful getting the van through the narrow street and down the sloped driveway.
Surrounding Area:
Local restaurant and boulangeries, as well as handy larger supermarche. Great access to beautiful towns and countryside, places like Uzes, Pont du Gard, the Camargue, Aigues Mortes, etc. Close to airports in Nimes and Montpellier.
Nearby Events or Locales:
In the town of Caveirac.
Tips or Restaurants:
It was a very well equipped house.
