Overall:
This was a truly excellent holiday in fine surroundings. The hosts were the best you could wish for, especially the dinner they prepared for the guests. The weather was totally co-operative.
Enjoyed Most:
90 acres of rolling hills containing vineyards, olive and nut trees and some fruit trees, with beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside.
Surrounding Area:
Towns were not far, and the drives to San Gimignano and Volterra were shorter than the one to Florence. Siena was very close.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was a good hike down the road but the roads are very narrow and do not accommodate pedestrian traffic. And Italian drivers are speedy but skillful.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be prepared to re-learn the stick shift in your car rental; automatics are hard to come by. Diesel is cheaper than gas and gets you farther.
Directions:
Better to turn off at Poggibonsi Sud if you're come from Florence.

Overall:
Absolutely wonderful. The owner is an absolute sweetheart, as is her husband. They made a our stay a memorable one and cannot thank them enough. The property is spectacular and felt very much at home while we were there.

The location was perfect, close to all the places we wanted to go on day trips. The Villa itself is so wonderful on top of a hill overlooking the area was breath taking.

Surrounding Area:
The small town of Monteriggioni, which our RentVillas Travel Adviser suggested we visit, was fantastic. We loved it so much we went back a second time. We found a wonderful restaurant there that we had to return to.

Staggia was the closest town, and yes, you could walk there.

Overall:
Our stay was absolutely memorable. Claudia and Rudi welcomed us like family members. They went beyond the call of duty, giving us information on anything we needed. Rudi went in our car to the village to help us get gas and nothing was too much trouble. The property was extremely well cared for, window boxes and planters spilling over with bright geraniums and petunias. Olive oil and wine from the farm was available whenever we needed it. The "must see" villages and towns were extremely accessible. An unforgettable experience.!
Enjoyed Most:
We had a lovely gazebo allocated for our use and we enjoyed evening wine and cheese there. Leisurely walks in the olive groves and vineyards were therapy for the soul and the views over the local town and surrounding hills were calendar pictures.
Surrounding Area:
Each old town in the Tuscany travel guides was within 1 - 2 hours drive through picturesque countryside, with old rustic stone houses. The local town itself had an interesting history and one could tour the castle. Great grocery store and traditional coffee shops, restaurants, and a great gelato place.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was in walking distance but roads in Italy are narrow with no shoulder so we preferred to drive there and do our walking around the towns we visited.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a hairdryer and swimming towels. Steakhouse down alley opposite yellow gelato shop was good. Poggibonsi has great restaurants, too. Claudia has recommendations for any taste and time frame.
Directions:
The GPS could not find the address but we were given the coordinates and they worked fine on the GPS.

Overall:
Absolutely incredible - beyond words.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the hosts. They are the perfect hosts--always wanting to do better and make the experience perfect for the guests. We were invited twice for dinner with fellow guests--what a hoot that was on both occasions.

Didn't dislike any of it; ceiling fans would be good in bedrooms and kitchen area.

Overall:
Claudia and her family were awesome. They were helpful with good nearby recommendations, invited us to have dinner in their home, and were always available if we needed anything.
Enjoyed Most:
Proximity to nearby attractions It was a close drive to Siena and once we learned the roads a little better, the drive to Florence became easy as well.
Enjoyed Least:
No real living room space as it was coupled with the kitchen, but for a 2-bedroom, it was fine. Also you definitely needed a car to get around.
Surrounding Area:
There is an outside area for sitting, a game area to play ping pong, and a vineyard for strolling.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia--I think it would have probably been in biking distance, but not really walking distance. Not completely sure, but it must have been 3-4 miles away at least on a difficult road with no shoulder.
Tips or Restaurants:
Car is a definite.
Directions:
Did not use a GPS, however as it was the first time driving in Italy, it would have been VERY helpful. The first few days we got lost often, but quickly learned our way.

Overall:
Absolutely loved everything. The hosts were wonderful . We felt like family. The views were breathtaking from our villa. The apartment was very clean. Didn't want to leave.

They provided essentials like toilet paper and dish detergent and shampoo, etc. You just need to buy food at the local grocery, which was well-stocked.

Overall:
Wonderful! Claudia and Rudy were very welcoming and helpful! They welcomed us in and made us dinner and offered advice as we needed it. The property is beautiful as well! Plus the villa itself is located in the heart of Tuscany with many cities nearby, perfect for day trips.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is amazing. But Claudia and Rudy were great as well. They really made us feel welcome and part of the family.

The beds were very hard.
Surrounding Area:
This villa is very close to both Siena and Florence. There was ease of access to all of Tuscany and the surrounding areas. Plus Staggia is minutes away and has a few lovely cafes and restaurants.

Staggia is definitely within walking distance but the roads are narrow so it is a bit scary to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
No blow dryer here in case you need one. Both restaurants in town are good but we preferred the one by the post office. Their wine is excellent and you definitely need to take a cooking class with Claudia.
Directions:
Directions and signs in Italy are brutal to begin with. You just have to accept that they sometimes have signs and sometimes you have to guess. Directions to the property had a wrong turn near the end. But if you look at a map and know somewhat where you are headed that helps. We did not use a GPS. I wish we had. It would have been very helpful. By the end of the trip we came to accept that we would probably get lost tying to get somewhere. But it's Italy. Take your time.

Tips or Restaurants:
Temps were in the 60s F throughout our stay. We dressed in "layers" and we were glad we packed warm pj's as the apartment was cool. But many blankets were provided.
Directions:
RentVillas provided GPS coordinates which were right on, served us better than the directions.
Check In Out:
Owners were available at both time points. We needed to leave by 9 AM to catch a train, so we ran this past them the day before just to be sure it would work for them.

Overall:
Absolutely amazing. Grounds and apartment were beautiful. Far above our expectations. It was actually much better than the pictures we saw. All recently renovated. The apartment was in excellent condition and the view was beautiful. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen had all the dishes, glasses, pots/pans/knives we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
Outdoor space. Beautifully manicured. You can walk amongst the winery's grapevines. Beautiful pool. Great outdoor dining space with grill.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing. It was all perfect.
Surrounding Area:
Great location! Very peaceful, quiet area but easy to get to Florence--45 min drive, Siena--20 min drive, San Gimignano, Volterra. We went on a great wine tour of the area, as well.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Has an excellent "steak" restaurant which has a full menu. We had a delicious pasta there. We did grocery shopping at the Coop, which had everything we needed at great prices. It's really close, but not walkable because of the steep windy hill and narrow roads.

Rent here! The apartment is fully equipped.
Directions:
We used a GPS, too. Follow the directions exactly.

Claudia was so friendly and helpful. It was easy to buy wine and olive oil produced on the property and to then pay at check out.

Overall:
We had pleasant stay at Vecchio Borgo - the property was beautiful, lovely olive trees and grape vines, spring flowers blooming everywhere, bunnies hopping around freely which our kids looooved!, a neat view of the castle in Staggia...we had great time! We rented a car and drove to all the nearby towns - just fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
The garden and beautiful views.
Enjoyed Least:
It was dusty in the apartment. Internet connection was not that great. My husband, although on vacation, needed to connect to his business on a daily basis and it was easier to do so in the larger towns nearby.
Surrounding Area:
We were so close to all the mus- see places: Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano etc etc. Lots of wine producers...great wine tastings - best ones on the way to San Gimignano!!! The wine on the property was good - their olive oil fantastic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was walking distance for the adults, not for the children We have two toddlers. Not much to see in Staggia except for the castle and small church.
Tips or Restaurants:
For those of you traveling with small children there is a washing machine on the property, but no dryer. You can hang your clothing outside. We preferred to do so inside near the heaters - dried quicker and was not "unsightly". The property provides you with a soap and shampoo.
Directions:
We used a GPS - make sure you use one! It can get very confusing - lots of narrow roads with no names. Once you get used to the location it is very easy to find your way to Florence and other places - the signs are very easy to follow. GPS is always very very helpful
Check In Out:
We got there a few hours early and Claudia was so sweet to check us in eventhough she was having lunch with her family! She did not mind at all to come out and help us - even though check in was clearly posted on the door: 3:00pm.

Overall:
The whole experience was a dream come true--the high point of our trip in Italy. Claudia, Simone and Giuseppi were very gracious and hospitable. They were helpful if we needed something, but otherwise left us alone as though we lived there. Wonderful Chianti and olive oil! I did a fair amount of cooking in the well appointed kitchen.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds were colorful and well tended. The farmhouse itself had some charming faux windows painted on the outside walls. I loved walking through the vineyards and trees...some poppies still blooming with several other kinds of wildflowers between the rows of grapes. Potted flowers were throughout the property near the house. When some of the plants looked to have the tiniest bit of bug damage or hail damage - yes it hailed while we were there - they were replaced. Two sets of bunnies lazed contentedly around the property too.
Surrounding Area:
We took many side trips while there, but also hung out by the pool and read. We went to Volterra, Siena, Arezzo and Castellina. All locations beautiful with the right amount of art and church viewings, as well as espresso and gelato.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did our grocery shopping in Staggia, a short car ride and found the COOP to have everything we needed. Shop workers helpful to people with limited Italian and needing help with the procedure for buying produce. Thanks!
Directions:
GPS would have been helpful in the beginning, while learning how to read the road signs. But once I caught on to how the signs and traffic circles were labeled, it was fine.
Check In Out:
We got there early and Claudia was ready for us. Very helpful with different appointments in the apartment, laundry and other aspects of the property.

Overall:
Great - lovely place, quite quiet and garden-pool are wonderful Terrific for kids, with rabbits in the barn, farm cats and lots of birds. Horseback riding nearby with well kept horses and lots of riding levels.

Living room furniture could use some updating.

All the little hill towns and markets. Castellina is a lovely little town.

Overall:
Exceeded even our highest expectations. We'd dreamed about a vacation in Tuscany for years and this was truly exceptional. It was like living inside one of the old paintings when it came to the views and the surroundings. And it was like being welcomed into a an Italian family when it came to the friendliness and environment at the villa.

The views, the friendliness of the family and the closeness to major sights.

Surrounding Area:
We liked Staggia and Poggibonsi as smaller Italian towns. We made Staggia our main source for replenishing food supplies with locally grown produce and meat.

Staggia was the closest. It was definitely withing walking distance, but we ended up stopping by on our way out or home every day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Try the local steakhouse in Staggia. If you cook your own food, shop at the Coop in Staggia rather than Poggibonsi. Much better prices. Try the local salami and fresh pesto.
Directions:
The directions we were given were from Florence and we came from Rome. Once we came close we called and spoke with Claudia and from there it was pretty easy.

Just excellent, they made us feel very welcome right away.

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay at the villa! The accommodations, the view of the Tuscan hillside, the wonderful wine and olive oil produced on the property, and our family host were magnificent. It was a wonderful "Under the Tuscan Sun" experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful views, serenity and location made for a perfect spot for exploring the Tuscan countryside and towns. Claudia, our property host, brought us a bottle of their estate wine as a welcome gift. Two days later she showed up on our door step with a warm Torta della Nonna Cake which was absolutely superb. We asked her for the recipe which she wrote down and then invited us into her kitchen to teach us how to make it. We are invited back for another cooking lesson to make her mothers ravioli. It was a wonderful experience!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The estate was absolutely perfect for day trips to Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano, as well as hopping on a train in Poggibonsi for day trips to Florence. We were only minutes from the supermarkets in Staggia and Poggibonsi for all the provisions we needed to prepare our evening meals.

Poggibonsi and Staggia - both required a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was well stocked. You may want to take your favorite pans and utensils if you are doing serious cooking. Definitely try the variety of estate wines, grappa and olive oil which were excellent. Plan to purchase some of these products to bring home with you to continue the wonderful memories of your visit. But remember, they cannot go in your carry-on luggage.

Overall:
We enjoyed the outdoor areas - we sat outside at night with wine, ate out by the pool - there are many outdoor areas to sit and enjoy. The wine and olive oil were delicious and so reasonable! We took day trips all over.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and tranquility. It was very peaceful and in a wonderful location!

No air conditioning, although the fan did help. We could have used another fan .... fans in the ceiling would help!
Surrounding Area:
Everything! The view was unbelievable, like out of a picture book or painting you would see that makes you think of Tuscany! It was a short distance to San Gimignano - the picture perfect town! Short and easy train to Florence for day trips!
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate one evening at Babette right down the road - the mixed fish salad was absolutely delicious! We also ate at the restaurant in the Hotel Cisterna in San Gimignano! Make reservations and request a window seat - you will be in for a treat! Food was excellent as well - their veal ravioli was my favorite dish right up there with Babette's salad! Just bring pool towels - otherwise, it was very well equipped! The sunset on the trek to Volterra was unbelievable!

Staggia. No. You could walk, but the road was not one that I would consider "safe" for walking. Cute town to go and have drink in and watch the people go by. Great Restaurant behind the local "5 and dime".

Enjoyed Most:
The location was perfect. A family-run vineyard and olive farm with picture perfect views, yet with an excellent road system within 10 minutes away. Siena 20 minutes, Florence 45 minutes, etc. The simple charm of the accommodation together with the friendly, helpful service from the ownersi family made it an altogether ideal experience.
Enjoyed Least:
The laundry system was somewhat inadequate but if one was really desperate there was a launderette in nearby Poggibonsi - 15 minutes away.
Surrounding Area:
Country walks right there on the property. Lots of small hill towns without the mobs of tourists we had encountered on our trip up from Rome. We even drove to the coast one day just for fun - 1hr 45 minutes. A great day trip for children with beach, water park, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia was certainly within walking distance though not to be recommended. Not much space for pedestrians on the narrow road. There was a good supermarket and 3 local restaurants to choose from, all as yet untouched by commercialism!
Tips or Restaurants:
Do try the "homemade" olive oil and wine that is on sale at the property. There are lots to choose from, all very reasonable. It would be a good idea to leave behind any books you have finished. We left ours hoping to start a trend. Take some coffee filters, the ones available locally were so thick the coffee had trouble getting through!

Location - being in close proximity to the village of Staggia and town of Poggibonsi which was on the railway line between Florence and Siena. Also the peace and quiet and wonderful views.

Nothing to dislike.

Quaint villages, historical ruins, beautiful countryside and proximity to several major towns such as Siena and Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We would have liked to have walked to Staggio, as it was only about 1 mile away. However, there were no footpaths and the only way there was to walk along the road which was narrow and only allowed one car to pass in each direction which could make it dangerous for pedestrians.
Tips or Restaurants:
Yes. Bring a small supply of food, eg - milk, bread, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea and some canned food, particularly if arriving on weekends, as local shops are not open on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. We arrived late on Saturday afternoon and had to wait until Monday to purchase groceries.

Overall:
It was much nicer than expected. We were there during the grape harvest and ate sweet grapes off the vine. The walks through the woods every morning were peaceful and inspiring. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and just hanging out. We could spend our life on this property.

Staggia was the nearest town. We didn't walk there due to the steep hill and a baby carriage.

The owners of the villa gave great leads to excellent restaurants. Two of them are in Staggia, literally a few minutes away. We also grilled on the outside kitchen, a wonderful experience in itself. The villa was well supplied with everything from toilet paper to shampoo. Just bring yourself and sense of adventure.

Overall:
The owners made us feel so much at home. They made us dinner one night and it was one of the best pasta dinners we had. They also gave our children tractor rides around the farm, showing them all the grapes and letting them pick some of the peaches that they grow. We also loved the wine room. We drank some of the best wines, we just wish we could have shipped them back to the U.S.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were amazing! When we drove up to the property, I thought we were on the set of "Under the Tuscan Sun." The sunflowers were in bloom and went on for miles! From our window you could see a few castles, sunflowers, and miles and miles of grapevines, and in the morning you could hear a rooster. All of these things were priceless to us.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing, we loved everything about the property!
Surrounding Area:
We took day trips to all the various villages. Some were 30 minutes away and some were a little longer. Each village was beautiful and had an interesting story. We especially loved the smells. Around 2 p.m. the locals would be making their lunch and as you walked around the streets you could smell what they were cooking; it was wonderful.

Overall:
This property was very accurately described by Rentvillas. It met, or perhaps even exceeded, our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting was wonderful! On top of a hill overlooking the olive groves and vineyards with fabulous views of the countryside! And the hosts were charming and very helpful. The property also included a lovely pool area that all the guests enjoyed just relaxing around.
Surrounding Area:
All of the marvelous Chianti region was within easy driving distance as well as the towns of San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Siena, Pisa, even Florence.

"Molina il Moro" in Colle val d'elsa (I think that's right...we often got that town name wrong! But it's the next town over) is a wonderful restaurant. Be sure to make reservations (Claudia, one of the villa's hosts, can help you with this). Big supermarket 10 minutes away in Poggibonsi.
