Overall:
We had never been to Tuscany before and our experience was well beyond our expectations. The food, wine, atmosphere and people of Cortona were friendly, gracious and a true joy to be around. No hustle and bustle of a big city. We did not rent a car and found it very easy to get around without one. Upon arrival there was a taxi waiting for us at the Camucia train Station and then we used their serves twice during the week.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was perfect. Very clean and the perfect size for 2 couples. The nights were a bit cool so we put on a fire in the fire place and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need to make a meal or an incredible antipasto tray for a midnight snack, which we had every night. There were plenty of sitting areas on the front lawn to relax and even 2 hammocks for the afternoon siesta!
Enjoyed Least:
I can honestly say that we did not have one complaint. It was perfect.
Surrounding Area:
Took a day trip to Passignano to see Lake Trasimeno. Beautiful little town and gorgeous lake. The olive oil is like nothing I have ever tasted. Plan on bringing a couple bottles home but only serve it to those who would appreciate it! It is priceless.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona is a beautiful town and well worth the walk up the steep hill - about 10 minutes. By the end of the vacation, we were masters of the hill. The town had everything you would need. There were 2 meat shops which we frequented every day, and a well stocks wine store that carried all the local wines around Cortona; my favorite wine was Il Castagno Syrah from Fabrizio Dionisio. Take the time to observe the Italian family interactions in the Piazza. You must have a gelato to get the full effect!
Tips or Restaurants:
There is not a bad restaurant in Cortona. Our first dinner was at Osterio Del Teatro; you have to go and experience the greatest laugh you have ever heard. Buccacia and Tattoria La Grotto were amazing. Antica Tattoria was a great place for lunch. We went to Quercecchio in Montepulciano, to Gattavecchi in Montalcino, and lunch in Pienza.
Directions:
We didn't rent a car and the taxi driver , Albino, was the cutest man who loves to talk. Learned so much about the Italian culture on our day excursions.
Check In Out:
Very easy and simple. Elisabetta was around if we needed her but everything was so well prepared, we didn't need to call her at all.

Overall:
We could not have asked for a better experience. Everything went seamlessly!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the peace and tranquility of the property. The outside sitting area was amazing for taking in all that Tuscany has to offer. It was also nice to pay a little extra for wireless access.

We did not rent a car, so we trekked up the hill to the piazza every day. This is not for the faint of heart.
Surrounding Area:
The restaurants and shops were fabulous.

Cortona; it was within walking distance but again you have to be prepared to climb the hills.
Tips or Restaurants:
Flashlights are a good idea if you are going to be walking at night. We followed the Rick Steve's travel guide and all the restaurants he recommended were great. Osterio del Teatro and La Bucacina were definitely my favorites.
Directions:
It would have been helpful to have the actual address. Our cab driver did not know where this villa was located, so we had to meet him in the piazza.

We called Elisabetta prior to our arrival from the Camuccia train station. She had a car waiting for us upon our arrival and she was already waiting for us at the villa. She was very accommodating and answered all of our questions.

Overall:
Excellent. The villa provided privacy but was extremely convenient to the village of Cortona and easily within driving distance to all of Tuscany. You feel at home immediately upon arrival. Furnishings are typical of the area and the farmhouse setting made our visit even more comfortable.

Overall:
Extremely pleasant. It is spacious, clean, and very well-located in proximity to town, train stations, and grocery shopping. This is the second time I've stayed there and I would return.
Enjoyed Most:
Proximity to Cortona (either a short drive, or a 15-minute walk almost straight uphill--but invigorating!), proximity to excellent restaurants, museums, train, and shopping.
Enjoyed Least:
The traffic on Saturday night was noisy under the bedroom windows. The rest of the time the traffic noise was intermittent and usually abated before midnight.
Surrounding Area:
Lake Trasimeno, Cortona, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza, the Val di Chiana, wandering the streets of Cortona all the way up to the top of the Medici Fortezza, the views from the farmhouse, and the friendly and helpful owners.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona, not so small, but a mere 15-minute hike uphill.
Tips or Restaurants:
Osteria del Teatro, Fu Flunns, and Pizzeria La Tufa. Bring a corkscrew if you drink wine and don't forget to buy toilet paper. The Coop in Camucia is a good place to shop. On the Via Dardano in Cortona there is a shop that sells amazing freshly-made pasta and a few doors down there is a great butcher where we bought Chianina steaks cut to order.

I've been there before so I drove straight there and met the owner.

Overall:
Our overall experience with both RentVillas and the villa itself was abosolutely fantastic.

The area is filled with cafes and restaurants that are of supurb quality. The only thing I can suggest is to not try and climb to the top of Cortona unless you are in great shape, as the hills are steep.

I had GPS which I think in Europe today is a must. It took us to the exact location and it worked beautifully.

Overall:
We absolutely adored the villa. We loved being able to walk to Cortona and having so many conveniences (train, grocery, etc) in Camucia so close by. Having the pool was a big plus since it was pretty hot. Plus, we were the only ones renting the villa that week so we had it all to ourselves.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and house itself. I felt like I was living just like the locals.
Enjoyed Least:
There was some noise from the road.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Cortona. It had great shops and restaurants and the architcture was incredible. Camucia was so close; it has a nice big Coop grocery store plus a train station with direct routes to Rome and Florence, which we took advantage of.

Cortona is nearby, but it's a steep walk uphill to get there. We had no problem with it, but depending on how fit you are, it could be a challenge.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought a mosquito net to hang on the door in the living area as it was the only area that did not have a screen. Flashlights for evening walks and extra towels for the pool would also be helpful.
Directions:
We used a GPS and had a little trouble finding the actual house to meet the owner to get the key. We got lucky when we asked for help on the street--and it turned out to be Fernando, the owner himself.

Overall:
We had an awesome time. Fernando and his wife were so nice.
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting outside enjoying the view and drinking a glass of wine.

There was outside road noise since we had to sleep with the windows open due to the heat.

Cortona is a lovely town. Shopping was easy and I even cooked two meals in the villa.

Cortona, and yes, we walked up the hill several times to go to the village. It is easier to drive to, though.
Tips or Restaurants:
All of the local restaurants we tried were fantastic. Go to the "Romeo" wine tasting shop down one of the side streets. The lady was so nice and we ended up purchasing a case to send home.
Directions:
Yes, we used a GPS and that made things much easier. Finding street names was difficult at first, until we realized they are written on the sides of the buildings.

Overall:
We had an excellent time in Cortona, and enjoyed staying at the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The best things about the property were the view, the rose garden, the antiques inside, the grounds, and the close proximity to the medieval gates of Cortona. The villa was clean and well-maintained, the beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms and the kitchen quite well equipped. The owners were often at the place, working on the surrounding grounds and we found them to be very nice. They even left us a bottle of wine one day, when they noticed we were setting the patio table for an outdoor dinner. They were also very accommodating in getting the pool ready for use, as our daughter had her heart set on swimming (even though it was really too cold to swim!).
Enjoyed Least:
We found it a little dark inside the villa at times. We did have some dark, rainy days, but the interior lighting was not great for reading, etc. It is just a minor thing to note.
Surrounding Area:
There was much to explore in Cortona and the surrounding area. A one-week stay was just right. We especially enjoyed day trips to places like Arezzo, Anghiari, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, etc. We also did a day trip to Siena and loved it there. Cortona itself was a delightful little town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona was a 10-minute walk uphill (5 minutes down!) so easy to access on foot. The town below (Camucia) had all necessary amenities such as grocery stores, etc. and could be accessed by vehicle in about 5 minutes.
Tips or Restaurants:
It would be a good idea to bring a reading light, as the interior is dimly lit. Also, slippers would be a definite asset, along with a sweater/sweatshirt, because the interior of the villa could be quite cool, even on hot days. The villa did not contain any reading material or games etc., so make sure you bring something to do in the event that you have rainy days. We had two stormy days that were not suitable for sightseeing, but we didn't have much to keep occupied with indoors. There is no WiFi at the villa, so surfing the net was not an option, which didn't bother me in the least, but was somewhat tortuous for our teenagers ...though good for them.

Overall:
Our eyes would never tire of the beautiful views. Our entire experience was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were wonderful. The yard is park-like with a panoramic view.

The traffic could be a bit noisy at night. (This did not stop me from sleeping like a log!)
Surrounding Area:
Short destinations were reached without a car. There is a bus that travels to Terantola... and from there a train to anywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The smallest town is Cortona. It is .77 miles (uphill) from the apartment. Let me emphasize the word "uphill". It was not a problem for us, but elderly travelers, individuals with disabilities, and someone who has trouble walking would not have had access to the town without a cab driver or rental caar. As for us? We used the hike to walk off the excellent pasta dinners in town! We bought and carried groceries downhill to the apartment.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your walking shoes. Prices are reasonable in Cortona. There are many fine little restaurants that serve good food. There is no Internet connection on the property, however, for only a few Euros, you can easily check email and/or work at the Hotel St. Michelle (right on the path into Cortona!)
Directions:
We met the most wonderful cab driver, Enzo, in Cortona. He knew exactly where we were headed.

Enjoyed Most:
Location. Close to Cortona...just a short walk up the hill.

The lack of heating. Very cold. When it is only 8 C outside, it is cold inside. Editor's Note: By Italian law, the heat cannot be turned on until November 1st.

Overall:
Cortona is a very interesting mountaintop town. The apartment has two modern bathrooms, an adequate kitchen and cozy living room/dining room. The overall experience was quite good. We shopped at the "Coop" in Camucia which is on the flats about a 10-minute car ride from the property. The town of Cortona is well worth two days of touring. It has an excellent Etruscan museum and good restaurants, a Duomo, and interesting churches and shops.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was impressive. There is a pool but it was too cold to swim in October. The owners were very welcoming and kind.
Enjoyed Least:
Adriana 1 is located on a very steep hill and it was a trek up to the town on foot. The men did it twice, but the women chickened out. We went by car; parking in the town was difficult. The property is very close to the steep, winding road and we did hear the traffic going downhill in our bedrooms at night. The bedrooms had dim lighting.
Surrounding Area:
We liked the town of Cortona and its proximity to Arezzo, Siena, Montepulciano, and Pienza, to name a few, as well as the border of Umbria. We drove all around Lago di Trasimeno.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Really and truly, NOTHING was in walking distance for us! The steep hills and narrow one-way roads made walking dangerous and a real work out.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS. We were unable to find "La Porta Colonia" but we did have an international cell phone and called Fernando who sent his daughter to meet us at "Porta Mazzini" She came quickly and led us to the property.
Check In Out:
Check in was easy and uncomplicated. Elisabetta gave us some extra towels on the spot. She showed us the apartment and the laundry, which only has a washer (no dryer).

Overall:
The villa was a dream come true. The accomodations were great and the owner and his family went out of their way to make us feel at home. Fernando took a liking to my father and took him on local tours and recommended places to eat and visit.

The friendly atmosphere and great view.

Surrounding Area:
The wonderful restaurants in Cortona. The local train station was only a mile or two away and was very friendly for side trips to Florence, Pisa, and even Venice.

Cortona is in walking distance if you are hardy. It is about a quarter mile up hill. We walked it several times.
Tips or Restaurants:
A sharp knife. The kitchen was well stocked, but lacked a sharp knife.
Directions:
We used a GPS, but also read the provided directions. I recommend anyone travelling in Italy to use a GPS.

The check in/check out process was fast and easy. Effort free!

Overall:
The location offered excellent proximity to other towns. The owners were very hospitable and lovely. The accommodations were very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was excellent. The pool made the hot days tolerable. The beds and showers were comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
We were very uncomfortable with the heat. Granted, it was August--but the villa had no air conditioning in any room, no ceiling fans, no table fans, and screens were missing in the living room. Also, even with ear plugs, the noise from cars passing by in the street that ran alongside the villa made for terrible sleeping, especially since you needed air flow without A/C or fans.
Surrounding Area:
Loved Cortona--it's less than a mile away. We also loved the proximity to the supermarket, the train station, and the autostrada--very convenient.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona was within walking distance, uphill on a dirt pathway for about 12 miles. Driving was better, but parking is limited. It's best to visit at odd hours.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack mosquito netting and buy table fans when you get there.
Directions:
Don't follow the GPS as this will get you going along treacherous roads. Get to Cortona and call the owner; she will lead you to the villa.

Overall:
The villa has a very authentic feeling. The grounds are really nice and have many areas to sit outside and relax.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful wood ceiling beams and tiles, and the fantastic view of the valley below.
Enjoyed Least:
The worst part was there are NO screens on the window and balcony doors of the living room. This means that at night, when the lights are on, mosquitos are invited in like crazy. Even though I burned citronella candles nightly as well as wore repellent, we got bitten quite a bit. We were there in July 2011 and it was very warm during the days, so beware the mosquitos in summer.
Surrounding Area:
It's located just minutes from Cortona, which is just a little further up the hill. The location in Tuscany is convenient to all other areas; it's 30-50 km from Florence, Siena, Assisi. We loved daytripping daily but returning each evening to the charm and quaintness of Cortona's town squares and restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona. We NEVER walked it. It was too far, too hot, and at a 45 degree angle uphill all the way. The nearest gate into the town also was a steep uphill climb into the piazza. We always took the car and went to the Via Nazionale entrance, which is the only flat street and the main street in Cortona. WE LOVED CORTONA.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property is really quite gorgeous and authentic. There are Cortona ceramics on disply in the villa. We stayed in the 3 bedroom unit. Trattoria Dardona is excellent. Food is great, the owner is young and speaks perfect English. In the summer bring mosquito repellent.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS. Signage was good on the autostrada and we obtained basic directions on Google to get there from Rome.

Overall:
Fantastic. Cortona is a wonderful home base for exploring Tuscany. The views, ambiance, friendliness of Cortona, and this property in particular cannot be beat.
Enjoyed Most:
It's a peaceful mountaintop oasis near a wonderful town.

Lack of air-conditioning and noise from adjacent road--but neither would keep me from returning again.
Surrounding Area:
It's a close walk or drive to Cortona. It's also a close drive to the grocery store in Camucia.
Tips or Restaurants:
Spices/condiments need to be purchased if you want to cook. Bring bug repellent if you plan to be outdoors in the evening. Finds: The pâtisserie on via Nazionale opens early for breakfast. La Bucaccia is a great resturant for fine dining. Explore the Etruscan fort at the top of Cortona.
Directions:
The directions were to the home of the person with the key. It would help to have instructions on where to park and how far to walk to get to this person's home. It would also help to have a map of how to get to the rental property
Check In Out:
The key holders were wonderful--very friendly, attentive, and helpful. They did not ask for a deposit, but just told me to leave 50 Euros for cleaning and the key on the table. It would definitely help to have English instructions at the rental property as to how to operate the washer, the location of the closest grocery store, best places to park, and suggestions for area sights/restaurants, etc.

Overall:
Wonderful. Absolutely loved it.
Enjoyed Most:
Very spacious for a family of five. The kids really enjoyed the pool and the bocce ball. The view is fantastic.

There was some noise from the road, but we didn't find this to be a huge issue.

The town of Cortona is wonderful. There was a medieval festival while we were there which included a spectacular evening flag throwing event.

Overall:
The property owners were very friendly and accommodating. This made the experience wonderful.

Modern, great views, close to towns of Cortona and Camucia.

Great views and the small neighboring towns were wonderful to visit.

Cortona is within 3/4 of a mile and a very steep, uphill walk. It's good exercise, though.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring wash cloths, Zip Lock bags for food storage, and personal toiletries. Almost all restaurants in Cortona were comparable in price and the food was excellent. Bar 500 was a great place for lunch or dinner. It had the best pizza and the owners were very friendly and accommodating.
Directions:
GPS was very helpful in finding the property and for travel throughout Tuscany.

Overall:
Our first time renting a villa in Italy was an extremely rewarding experience.

The villa is old, built in the 1800's, but modernized in 1980. It is perfectly lovely. Comfortable and modern bathrooms and kitchen. Very clean.

Overall:
This shared house sits just below the walled town of Cortona. Although it's a bit of a tourist mecca during the day, in the evening it reverts more to a typical Italian hill town. Yes, there are still lots of tourists in town, but it never feels like that. On a Sunday morning everybody appears to know everyone else, which is perfect. The house is great value for money. We were there in October and the weather was still sunny and warm.
Enjoyed Most:
The house is nicely equipped. The kitchen has everything that you need. Two bedrooms have double beds, one a single. One bathroom has a shower, the other a bath, but only one has a hair dryer. The location is wonderful. If you sit out in the evening you look down into the valley and can see Lake Trasimeno off in the distance. The house is well maintained and we had no problem communicating with the owners when we picked up the keys.
Enjoyed Least:
Two things you need to know. The house sits below the town on a steep narrow road, so it's a bit of a hike up into Cortona. The road is narrow and the traffic doesn't particularly slow down to pass you! I would suggest if you're reasonably fit, the hike wouldn't be a problem, but if you're older, you may find it a bit of a trek. Bring a headlamp or flashlight so cars see you. The second issue also has to do with the road. The house sits on a hairpin bend and the the two double bedrooms overlook the road. It's not particularly quiet as the road is a shortcut to the next town and lots of the traffic is scooters and motorbikes. If you're used to traffic noise, then you'll have no issue, but if you think the house is in the middle of nowhere, you're wrong, and should bring ear plugs!
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is fabulous. You can easily make day trips into Siena, Florence, Assisi, etc. There are lots of restaurants and bars all over Cortona and everyone was very friendly. Don't take the direct route from Rome when you arrive, make sure you drive up through Castiglione del Largo on Lake Trasimeno, it's a beautiful village. We were really impressed with Assisi, the churches were fabulous and you'd never know it was hit by an earthquake 15 years ago. Visit You Tube and search for Assisi earthquake for amazing footage
Tips or Restaurants:
Again, if you're reasonably fit the walk down the hill into Camucia will allow you to catch the train into Florence. I can imagine that parking there would be impossible! You can buy a train ticket through automatic machines at the station and instructions are in English and Italian. We couldn't get it to accept credit cards, so bring cash. The round trip fare was 15 Euro and the train takes just over an hour. Just make sure you catch the return train to Camucia-Cortona, there's actually two stations for Cortona, the other is Terontola-Cortona which is much further away. Although there are small stores in Cortona, there's a big Co-Op supermarket on the main road in Camucia if you head north out of town. It also takes credit cards.

Watch out - the street that you turn on to to get the keys didn't have a street sign, but the directions were correct - second on the right!

Overall:
Very tranquil. The location is perfect. It is a short train trip to Florence or Rome. Lots of beautiful small towns nearby. The owner and his family are tremendously accommodating and I can't wait to return!
Enjoyed Most:
We were very fortunate to be the only ones there so it was very private. The landscaping is lush and the weather was perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
The rooms were a bit dark but it wasn't a huge obstacle.
Surrounding Area:
There is a great weekly market in Camucia which is 5 minutes away by car. The house is located only 1km from Cortona and there are other beautiful towns to visit within 1/2 hour.

Cortona is within walking distance if you can walk 1km uphill. The town of Camucia is 5 minutes by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Trattoria Antiquata off Piazza Signore in Cortona was a wonderful find. Reasonably priced and great patio seating made this a frequent stop for us.
Directions:
I didn't use a GPS and drove by myself and had no problem finding the place. Good direction!
Check In Out:
The owners' daughter was willing to accommodate my late arrival which really helped, since I flew into Pisa .

Overall:
Our experience was just fine. The property was very comfortable and clean. We had everything with which to work. The views from the property were beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
The experience of living in Tuscany like a native. We have visited Italy and Tuscany several times. This was probably the best experience for us.
Enjoyed Least:
There was very little we did not like. In fact other than it would have been good to have 2 showers, I cannot think of anything else.

The ambiance of the Italian Hill Towns, and the friendliness of the people.

Cortona was within walking distance. I noticed in an earlier correspondence that there was a concern regarding the fact there was no sidewalk. However, we were not expecting to be in America, and we were familiar with this situation. We walked every day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Other than personal items I would recommend bringing a pound or two of coffee. In our situation 3 of us preferred decaffeinated coffee. There is an American coffee maker with a permanent filter. There was plenty to work with in the kitchen. It was easy to take meals at the property which we did on a few occasions after being on the go all day. The best restaurant in Cortona is Osteria del Teatro. We have known it for 12 or more years.
Directions:
As mentioned this was not our first time in the area. We had a GPS and it was helpful.

We were met by the owners' daughter who was a delight. She was thorough in her explanations, so much so that we did not have to ask any other questions while we were there. She spoke good English, although I have good Italian skills.

Overall:
Wonderful! It was easy to find, the view was magnificent, the location close to Cortona was great, there were almond and quince trees to nibble on, and a sweet little dog to play with.
Enjoyed Most:
Its proximity to Cortona, yet it still had the ambiance of a country villa. It was very spacious, and the kitchen was better equipped than mine! There was even a canning kettle supplied.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a little bit of noise from the road, but it wasn't enough to keep us awake, and after midnight it was very quiet.
Surrounding Area:
Everything, which is why I go back every year. It's close enough to Perugia, Florence, Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico, Siena, Arezzo, Gubbio, etc., for easy day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona. It was within walking distance but we never walked because the road was very steep with blind curves.
Tips or Restaurants:
My favorite restaurants in Cortona are Fuflunns Via Ghibellina, Trattoria Estruca Via Dardano, La Grotta and La Locanda nel Loggiato. Outside Cortona a few km, in Ossaia, is La Tufa, which has an excellent view of the town from the terrace.
Directions:
I know Cortona very well and had a map of the town, so there was no problem finding it. We used a GPS on day trips. Unless you speak some Italian, there might be difficulty communicating with the hosts.

Overall:
Very good experience! Great base for exploring lesser travelled parts of Tuscany, and Umbria. Kids would have spent entire week in pool if allowed! Lovely walking into Cortona in evening and having a nice meal with wine, and not have to worry about driving home afterwards!

Pool was great! Views, Garden, location.
Enjoyed Least:
Half the windows had screens and half did not, so difficult to open windows and not let in mosquitoes. Should be instructions for stove and washing machine operation.

Cortona is a 8-10 minute walk up the hill with the shortcut around the back of the villa. 15 minutes if taking the street.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a flashlight if walking to-from Cortona at night so you can see and cars can see you! In the Summer, bring OFF for mosquito protection - they are brutal! Bring Zyrtec in case you get stung by a bee. Restaurant Tempero I think at Via Benedetti 10-12 was very good!
Check In Out:
Owner's daughter met us, and we followed her in her car to the Villa. She checked us in there. She checked in on us the next day. Check-out was simply leaving the keys in a bowl on the table.

Enjoyed Most:
The view is remarkable. There is plenty of hot water and the bathroom has all modern fixtures. There were screens on most of the windows so we could really enjoy the view without the bugs coming inside. My kids really enjoyed the pool and the bocce ball. The house is cozy with exposed beams and tile floors.

Cortona is charming. The townspeople are very helpful.

Cortona is uphill from the house, about one kilometer to the city town center. We found it to be an easy walk for our family, except that it is on a one-way street without sidewalks, so it was a little dangerous. We carried a flashlight at night so cars could see us. But the view was breathtaking. And the exercise was helpful because we ate gelato every day!
Tips or Restaurants:
Half the shops accepted credit cards, the other half only accepted cash. There are plenty of ATM machines. The shops are mostly closed during the afternoon, but it's very lively in the early evening. The house was nicely stocked with towels, plenty of blankets, and leftover pantry items from prior guests. My kids favorite was La Dolce Vita, the gelateria. A radio would be nice.
Directions:
We took the train from Termini station in Rome to Cortona. Make sure you are ready to get off the train at your stop, because we ended up being stuck on the train for an extra stop. The next train didn't come for 45 minutes. The taxi fare from the train station is 15 Euros. The train is 17 Euros, round trip from Rome.
Check In Out:
It was simple - we picked up our keys and then went to the house. To leave, we just left the keys and the cleaning fee on the table.

Overall:
We went in winter, but I imagine that summer time here is extraordinary. The property has a private pool with fantastic views of the valley!
Enjoyed Most:
The views were wonderful! The property was an old stone structure just outside the old city wall of Cortona. Although a car is mandatory, everything was relatively close and fairly easy to get to.
Enjoyed Least:
Make sure you bring a cell phone!
Surrounding Area:
Cortona is a very nice walled medieval town with good shops and nice people. It is perched atop a steep hill, so you will get your exercise, but it is well worth it.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona is the nearest town. Technically it is within walking distance, but it is straight uphill, so I recommend driving. If you really hate walking uphill, it would be best to drive to the second city gate where the slope is not quite so steep.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Grotto is the best restaurant in town, and don't miss La Pozza the Well for some cute shopping for gifts.
Directions:
Navigating an Italian medieval city isn't quite as easy as in the states, but the people are friendly and willing to help out.

We loved the Etruscan ruins in the back yard, Lucky, the dog, in a kennel, the view, hanging laundry on the line with our 4 year old son, the outside built-in game involving two colors of balls, picking almonds for lunch, picking pomegranites, the fireplace, which was used a lot, popping popcorn on the fireplace.

Towns within walking distance, St Francis "the cell" monastery - we went to mass there and walked the peaceful grounds.

Cortona- yes, we walked it daily.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your walking shoes. Hire a private guide for an afternoon to show you the locked Etruscan ruin sights. Bring a flashlight as short portions of the walk home from Cortona were dark- we always felt very safe. The flashlight helped signal to cars that we were walking on the side of the road. It was excellent. We had a 4yr old with us and no car. You may want a rental car a couple of days for exploring. We did break down and rent one for one day which they delivered right to Cortona through a local tour agency we saw on the way walking to Cortona. Thermal pools were about an hour away. We town-hopped to them and they were kid friendly and wonderful.
Directions:
We found the square, asked for the house of the priest and they were waiting for us. We had a 4 year old and quite a bit of luggage. They loaded us up with luggage and delivered us to the farmhouse.

The property was beautiful, well maintained, and the apartment was spacious and very clean. The owners were wonderful! They were always available if we needed anything, very helpful with directions and their daughter picked us up and dropped us off at the train station when we arrived and departed. I would definitely recommend this property.
Enjoyed Least:
The second bathroom's shower was very small and there was no ledge to hold the water in, so it went all over the bathroom floor. Also there was no place to put your soap and shampoo.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was beautiful! Cortona was one of my favorite cities. It's charm and beauty were wonderful. It has delicious restaurants, darling little shops with beautiful clothes, jewelry, prints and of course, gelato.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona was the nearest town. It was within walking distance, but the walk there was all up hill, and the road you walk on is narrow and winding and cars drive down this road very fast, so you really have to be careful especially at night. Be sure to bring a good flashlight.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would rent a car if I went back just for getting into town, to and from the train and getting around to other small towns. We had some great meals in Cortona. One of our favorites was Fufluns. The food was fresh, the house wine was great and the prices were cheap. Most every restaurant in Cortona was good.

Cortona is great! The people are friendly and embracing to outsiders. The location is central to most destinations in Italy, so it was easy to day trip just about anywhere

Cortona, yes you could walk it, but it was much easier to use the car. Parking was easy. Also, parking inside the city walls is very difficult. it is best to park outside the Portal and walk in. If you come in the South way there is a tourist office that can give you a great map of the city.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought our own pillows, although they were provided, it felt better to have your own. Zip lock bags. We liked to cook and it really helped preserve fresh things a little longer. The restaurants are incredible!!! There are so many great ones that half the fun is exploring. Rome is better to fly into and take the train to Cammucia, which is about 2 miles away, and it is better than flying into Milan and trying to make your way to the property.

I think people would be very pleased with the property itself, very clean, and very pretty....but be prepared for noise at night on the road...since the bedrooms border the road...

The view was beautiful and the people who own the property were delightful...It was a good location to Cortona and we loved Cortona....the people, the food, the shops, the relaxed atmosphere and the history surrounding Cortona made it the best!

A very busy road runs by the property and the noise was loud...because there was no air conditioning, we had to open windows and some nights were very noisy...Also, the shower in the first bathroom could be improved with the addition of a shower curtain and rod....plus it would be nice to have a couple of better lights by the beds for reading..
Surrounding Area:
We loved the whole area and especially liked the smaller communities.....we rented a car the three weeks we spent in Cortona and we felt that was a plus...We could spend every afternoon in the square and people watch and relax....!!!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona....you could walk but it is a very steep walk....but parking was fine....in fact most of the communities are built with steep walks to access the inside of the walls that surround most of the towns...I would say bring good walking shoes, drink lots of water and just take your time!

I was glad I brought handi-wipes, spray and wash, a bleaching stick and baggies....this property didn't have a dryer and drying inside took some time but there was also a place outside to dry...the washing cycle is very long.

Overall:
It was wonderful! There were six of us. Four of us had the first floor apartment with 2 queen-size rooms and our friends decided to join our trip and rented the upstairs apartment. That apartment had the same main entrance so we were able lock the main front door and leave our apartment doors open. This was a great feature.
Enjoyed Most:
Almost everything! It is so hard to break it down. The property was very well taken care of and very, very comfortable. The photos on your site don't do it justice. The owners who stopped by daily to check and water the gardens were extremely welcoming and friendly. The beds were extremely comfortable. The pool was very nice and refreshing after a day out touring. The location was almost perfect--a bit of a hike to the village especially in the heat --but driving up to one of the parking lots outside of the wall worked.
Enjoyed Least:
It is located right on a curve of the busy road from the village down and that is the side the bedrooms are located on, so there was a bit of noise at night and in the morning. The kitchen in our apartment was very small and didn't have much available for cooking meals. We managed, but it would have been nice to have more equipment.

The town of Cortona is beautiful.

Enjoyed Most:
Everything The home itself is absolutely beautiful. The grounds and the view are stunning. Plants everywhere!!! Flowering plants as well as bushes of herbs and lavender. Huge windows throughout the house offer wonderful breezes. Cozy outside sitting and dining areas. Pool. Close to town - within walking distance, if you can walk uphill. The house comes with an outside dog - Boomba! She is very sweet and lovable. The owners are very kind and generous! They prepared us a Tuscan meal on the property on the last night of our stay! We had coffee with them in town many evenings of our stay!
Enjoyed Least:
I loved everything about the house and its location. My husband would have preferred air conditioning or screens on the windows. But, as I stated above, there was always a lovely breeze - and no bugs at all, flying or crawling.
Surrounding Area:
The area is lovely, with a lovely view of the valley. Cortona is a delightful town and all of the residents are genuinely pleasant, kind, and helpful. Not the usual tourist town. Another town within walking distance down into the valley is Camuccia, definitely worth visiting and shopping here. If you cycle, rent or bring a bike and cycle the valley roads - magnificent! We drove to Siena in less than 1 hour. I believe Florence is about one a half hours. Can catch trains to Rome or Florence in Camucica. Train to Rome is about one and one half hours.
Tips or Restaurants:
This property is fully equipped with hair dryers. Lots of good restaurants in town. Get there early on Saturday so you can visit the market on Saturday mornings.

Overall:
Warmer weather during our stay would have been nice, as the pool was just opening as we left, and it would have been great to use it in warmer weather.

Secluded. No other renters at the other two apartments during our stay. Beautiful location and city.

Hard to get to because of one-way roads. Walking to anywhere is difficult.

Apartment well furnished. Water not potable, so drinking water a must. Also, you need to purchase average kitchen essentials such as paper plates, napkins, food and drink. Grocery store available within short driving distance. Many good restaurants in Cortona. Ate at several, all good.
Directions:
Hard to orient oneself in the city at first try. We did not locate the owner, she located us, by the puzzled look on our faces, and the paperwork from the rental agreement in our hands.
