Overall:
We found heaven on earth. All ten of us felt this way.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the fact that there were private areas in the villa for all ten of us! Although we all loved being together for meals and chats, it was also wonderful to know that there was privacy for reading, taking a nap, walking around the property etc. The views were also sensational!
Unpleasant Surprises:
That's a tough question----we loved it so much. Hmmmmm.......the best I can do is that we never sat in the corner living room because of its darkly colored walls and furniture. I had to really think about this question
Surrounding Area:
Tha surrounding area was rustic and quaint and we all loved it. Walking into Lucolena was special since we knew we were guests in this little town. Nobody spoke any English and we communicated with our basic Italian and charades. Somehow they understood us and helped us out. The little pizzeria was lots of fun and had great food, too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
If surrounding area means around our villa, well, it was perfect. Places to walk and hike, a wonderful family nearby with a grandmother who spoke to us as we petted her dog "Nerone" - conversation entirely in Italian, the vineyard and tour given by Leonardo, the garden area with blooming lilacs. The little town was one mile away, up a hill, but, quite doable.
Tips or Restaurants:
This villa far exceeded our expectations. Every morning we'd open the windows and say "Another day in Paradise". Our weather was blue skies, sunny, and temps in the 70's and 80's. It was an unusual run of warm weather for the end of April and we all thought that the gods were smiling on us. The suggestions that were made on what to bring were excellent---even the list of suggested grocery items. If renters do their research and read the suggestions that you provided, all will be great. Restaurants? Well, we did eat at a great restaurant in Panzano, but, I can't remember the name. It was an accidental "find" as we were walking a back street and the restaurant has a hanging wisteria garden and overlooks the whole valley.

Overall:
Overall this villa exceeded all of our expectations. There are two CD players in the villa. One has an excellent sound system, so bring music for your cozy evenings in. We also recommend getting the chef to cook you dinner one night. The food was excellent and it was a real pleasure not to have to drive anywhere.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa had wonderful views. The neighbors were nice and friendly and the owner was very accommodating. He even did a special tasting for us in the house. All of the rooms were very spacious and every room had it's own bathroom. There were two showers for use after being in the pool, which was still open in October. The pool was beautiful and well kept. The kitchen was gorgeous and a pleasure to cook meals in.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The front room could use heavier curtains to block out the light of the lamps outside.
Surrounding Area:
It was a nice quiet setting to relax in. We could easily get to Siena, Florence, Greve. Greve is the closest town and has a nice market on Sundays. It is best to take the train from Figline to Florence. Figline is a nice town to walk around in the evening. Siena is a beautiful town filled with interesting shops, restaurants, and lovely churches, etc. to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Lucolena. It is a nice walk uphill. It probably takes about 15 - 20 minutes to get there. There is a great pizzeria there. The town is quaint, but other than the pizzeria not much is happening there.
Tips or Restaurants:
I suggest you bring salt, pepper, etc. The COOP in Figline is excellent for grocery shopping. You can buy excellent olive oil from the villa. Wine is also available for purchase and all of the wine we tasted was excellent. We recommend doing a tasting. The owner does a great job talking about the wines and explaining how the wine and olive oil is made as the property has been in his family for years. There is a restaurant just outside of Lucolena called Borgo Antico that is excellent. We highly recommend it. I would bring mosquito repellent. Those Tuscan mosquitoes are like ninjas. You don't even realize you got bit until you see the welts and start to itch.
Directions:
It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Florence.

Overall:
We had a great time. My only regret was not spending more "down-time" enjoying the villa itself. We were constantly on the run.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped and we spent most of our time at the villa around the dining room table sharing a meal and reliving our adventures of the day. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable. Every bedroom had a private bathroom - a real luxury. The outdoor areas were wonderful.
Unpleasant Surprises:
It was a little too far to walk to Lucolena. Also, the mosquitoes were pretty bad. I hope Italy discovers "screens" in the near future.
Surrounding Area:
The Chianti region was beautiful and we didn't have enough time to visit all the places we wanted to. The driving was a little nerve racking. Now I know why so many race car drivers are Italian. The food was absolutely delicious and we enjoyed trying all the different vineyards' wines.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the nearest town and you could probably walk to it, but we didn't. It just seemed a little too far and the road wasn't very inviting to walk on. Also, we usually were out all day and just didn't have enough energy left at the end of the day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't bring laundry detergent. I think every renter leaves what they have left and the shelves are overflowing. Do make sure you have Leonardo show you the cellars and give you the tour. His enthusiasm about the wine they make is contagious - makes you want to go out and pick the grapes yourself. And their Chianti is really good. Also, try to visit a few of the surrounding town's market days. They're really fun.
Directions:
We did get lost a lot but I don't think its because of the directions given. The road signs were just hard to find at times. The directions we were given is probably the most picturesque approach to the villa, but we found taking A1 to Figline the fastest, easiest way to get there. We had enough winding road trips exploring the area after we arrived.
Check In Out:
No problems. Leonardo did a great job showing us the villa and explaining anything we needed to know. There was lots of reading material about the villa and the surrounding area. Also, Leonard was available via cell phone if we had any questions.

Enjoyed Most:
This property is truly the gem of the trip! Very rural and rustic with all the modern conveniences. Roosters calling you for breakfast sometimes a little too early. Plenty of room for 10 adults. Great kitchen with a long table and twelve chairs in the breakfast nook with a huge window looking out over the rolling grape fields and countrysides. Well stocked wine, grappa, and olive oil cabinet in the living room with a wide variety to chose from both reserve and newer chablis from the local area
Unpleasant Surprises:
Quite a few stairs, especially from the kitchen in the lower level to living room and most of the bedrooms, four on the 2nd floor, to the third level.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful small villages to visit, each with a different attitude to offer. Great geographical area to commute to a variety of these towns, as well as quite close to Figline train station from which you can easily get to many places.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena, do-able by foot but would recommend a car. There are 4 bikes on the property, so if pedaling is your thing, do it!
Tips or Restaurants:
Most things are available, if not already there. We did purchase and left a new coffee maker since the one that was there took 30 minutes to "work". If you are a coffee drinker bring ground not whole beans. Spent a great amount of time with a small hammer trying to do my own grinding! We also had a chef come in to prepare a special dinner - 2 birthday celebrations. 4 STARS - a six course meal!
Directions:
The getting there is half the fun, though it didn't seem so at the time. You must have a good navigator with ability to interpret arrow signs in a flash! We turned around three different times and retraced or tracks only to find that we didn't go far enough! It's an adventure but well worth it once you find "Home"!
Check In Out:
Went without a hitch, although we arrived a bit early and they were still cleaning. They let us deposit our bags in the living room, as we didn't have room in the car to put some of the goodies we needed to get. We drove down from Florence and were not sure how much time it was going to take to get there. Cristina and her adult son greeted us with open arms and made everyone feel very welcomed.

Overall:
I would go back tomorrow in a heartbeat. I loved it. I have been to Italy a number of times since 2000, and this was a significant trip. Loved the house. We had such a great time - all of us splitting up and traveling around the countryside to visit different locations - but then coming back at night and sitting at the magnificent dinner table and enjoying great food and wine. The wine bar is completely stocked with great wine from the location and its priced inexpensively. The hosts couldn't be more helpful and generous. It was a lovely lovely trip.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! It was truly lovely and a very special place. I liked the hosts, the set up, the layout of the house...the STOCKED WINE CABINET!! It was a wonderful trip.

Lucolena is the nearest small town and it's REALLY small. Yes, you can walk it but its a hike and there is a slight up hill grade to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stock up at the grocery store in Greve. You can really take care of yourself if you do that. There is a chain store in town where you can shop for all your needs. Good idea to stop there or someplace before you go in on Saturday because so much is closed on Sunday and mid-days for the rest of the week. If you are in the grocery store be sure to weigh your produce before you go to the register. They will frown at you and send you back out of the check-out line if you don't! Also, if you go into Lucolena to buy stuff, take smaller bills. The fellow who runs the store doesn't appreciate 20 Euro bills to pay for a bottle of water!!! Trust me, I know
Directions:
Take a map and plan it out before you try to drive it. Its very easy to get lost and although a lovely drive - the hairpin turns of the region get a little stressful if you are doing them over and over again. Do not plan on getting into the area after dark. Its very difficult to find if you cant see the signs and if you go visit other towns....make sure that you are back in the region before dark. Its very difficult to drive at night.

Overall:
I was concerned originally with renting from an online site, but when we arrived, the villa not only met but exceeded our expectations. We were a party of nine and there was plenty of room for all. We enjoyed most the outside table where we would gather to plan our days and enjoy the views while eating and reliving our daily excursions.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and solitude. The property was centrally located in the Chianti area which made touring easy and enjoyable. The local towns of Dudda and Lucolena were close enough for a quick trip to the market, yet the villa was far enough removed to allow for peace and quiet. We took one day just to enjoy our company around the pool while relaxing and taking in the views.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing really. We had a few days where the hot water was not working properly but due to the hot weather, it was manageable.
Surrounding Area:
Location, location, location!
The surrounding countryside was magnificent. The local townspeople were a joy and I enjoyed trying to engage with them
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was about 1 or 2 kilometers. The walk would be uphill and on a narrow road. There is a post office which we used once and a small market that was sparse on necessities but long on flavor.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring plenty of bug repellent if during the summer season. I would highly recommend having chef Jacoba come in. We had him cook for us on two evenings and it was spectacular.

Overall:
We all enjoyed the villa tremendously. It was even better than we'd hoped. We felt like we were living lifestyles of the rich and famous. An outstanding experience for everyone.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved everything about the property. We had eight people and we were all very comfortable. Our favorite was sitting outside at the table and around the pool enjoying the wonderful wine from our wine cabinet. Christina was very welcoming and helpful. The villa was perfect in every way. Beautiful setting, beautiful villa, beautiful everything.

There was nothing that we didn't love about this property.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed visiting the many hill towns near the property: Radda, Greve, Castellina, Panzano. Beautiful scenery, outstanding towns and fabulous lunches.

Lucolena. We enjoyed the best pizza in Italy in Lucolena. We also walked to the post office several times. We loved having the town so close.
Tips or Restaurants:
We visited two restaurants near the villa (brochures were in the villa). We enjoyed them both. Our favorite lunch in Tuscany was at Il Vescovino in Panzano - fabulous view, fabulous food, outstanding. We also arranged for Jacapo to cook for us on our last night in the villa. Fabulous! Everyone voted it their favorite event of the week! Don't miss this great opportunity.

Very well kept. The beds were comfortable and the quiet peaceful ambiance was fabulous. The location was perfect in that it afforded us a 20-minute drive to the train station for a trip to Florence, quick access to the Autostrada A-1, and a very scenic drive to Siena, Radda and many other small attractive towns.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Very little, The kitchen could use better lighting. We wished it had a clothes dryer.
Surrounding Area:
Very attractive landscape, the small village of Lucolena had a few groceries and made for a fun walk. Greve was very handy for grocery shopping, as was Figline.

Lucolena is within walking distance.

Greve has several good restaurants. The Villa had the name of a chef who we hired for one evening, the dinner and experience was terrific.

It is stunningly beautiful and very spacious. We had eight in our party and didn't even use the upstairs at all. The location is very quiet except for birdsong and the grounds are lovely. It is close to trains, sightseeing and shopping.

The pillows and the lack of soap!
Surrounding Area:
There is so much to enjoy. We recommend Carpineto, a winery, only 1.8 km down the road for tastings, and to some of the closer towns Greve, Panzano, San Gimignano, Cortona, Florence. It is in the middle of Chianti country so the countryside is rolling and covered with vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Lucolena, definitely within walking distance, only about 1.5 km away. You can see it from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The best restaurant is Locanda Borgo Antico, just past Lucolena. The food is fantastic and the prices unbelievable. Dinner for eight with wine was only 200 Euros. Shop in Figline at the Co-op, there are good prices and excellent selection. Keep in mind that you should wear the plastic gloves provided when choosing fruits and veggies, and remember to weigh them and get a price sticker before getting into the check-out line. The machine is easy to follow as it has pictures of the produce if you don't know the Italian names. In Greve there is an excellent wine tasting place where you can taste over 100 wines and olive oils. There is also an excellent butcher in Greve.

Overall:
This villa is so much better than the pictures. It is just fabulous. We had four couples and we had plenty of space and privacy. The bathrooms are new and there is plenty of bright light throughout the villa. The kitchen and dining area is the heart of the villa. We spent most nights there dining, talking, laughing and sharing great wine.
Enjoyed Most:
The size of the villa and the location is perfect for exploring Tuscany. We toured the area during the day and were happy to return home to make dinner with the day's finds. The owners are very cordial and go out of their way to accommodate requests. We really liked the olive oil and wine you could purchase that was made on the property.
Unpleasant Surprises:
No dryer. We were there two weeks. The first week was overcast and cool. Clothes would not dry. The second week was sunny. We hung a clothes line and hung everything out to dry. The pillows are thin and hard. Two of us had stiff necks the whole time.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is breathtakingly beautiful and the food and wine are unbeatable. We were close to Siena, Florence and many hilltop towns. The drive into Greve and Radda is spectacular. Just watch out for those Italian drivers who take their half out of the middle of the road!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest village. You could walk there, but we chose to drive because we were picking up some groceries. There is a little winery just down the road on the way to Lucolena. Stop and buy their local wine and olive oil.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you go to the local markets that are held once or twice a month in several towns. The fresh produce and specialty items are wonderful. Cheeses, sausages, preserves, honey - all are delicious. Figline comes alive after 5:00pm. From first glance, it appears this town doesn't have much to offer. But the small boutiques and shops come alive at dusk. It is a real town, not a tourist town which we fund charming. Greve has the best wine store around the corner from the Coop.
Directions:
Try to arrive during daylight. There are few streetlights in rural Italy. The driveway is hard to spot at night, even when you know where it is!

Having previously rented properties in Portugal, Spain, France and Italy,
there is no doubt that this was by far the best.

Salt, pepper and sugar. As these items are only available in far larger
quantities than a week's usage, surely plenty of each could be left by a

Enjoyed Most:
The location was quite good and the villa was overall very nice. We especially liked hanging out by the pool and the kitchen area. The weather was a bit cool and there were many rooms to hang out in. Although it is a separate building, there are apartments attached to it. It is built like a city house with the next building attached. It never bugged us, however. Very quiet and private. Also keep in mind the roads are quite curvy and if I was to go again I would budget more time to just hanging out at the villa because driving was not relaxing.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The showers had low water pressure. Also they owners have quite bright street lights that stay on all night, made star gazing impossible and our bedroom was a bit light from them. But both of these things are minor complaints and did not impact our enjoyment of the property
Surrounding Area:
The vineyard was right there and a small ruin at the top of the hill were both nice places to walk.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was very close and you could walk, but we never did. Also went to Greve which is a great tourist town. The Cantina is just as nice as previous people wrote about and has a great selection of wine. Siena was close and had good shopping. Florence was also close and we stayed a few nights there after our week in the villa. Great shopping, food and sights in Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stock up on the basics for the kitchen. You will need to bring salt, pepper and paper towels. Also toilet paper. Lucolena has a great pizza place, very local. Also had dinner at Locanda Borgo Antico, very nice, upscale dinner. Excellent steak and grilled meat. Also had Jalsco, the chef, come in twice. Great meal.

Overall:
The villa was in a beutiful setting. Bathrooms were all very modern and the kitchen well equipped. Since they are European appliances, we would recommend requesting a thorough explanation of how to operate them on arrival. The villa is connected in the back to a some adjacent small apartments, with some construction underway. These presented no problems for us, but if they were fully occupied, or the renters were noisy, it might affect the experience, depending very much on one's expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The Villa itself was outstanding. Very well maintained, and well located on a hillside offering excellent views of the valley below and the opposite hillside.
Unpleasant Surprises:
We were a bit surprised by evening temperatures, which actually required sweaters when the sun went down. Probably as a result of this, the pool temperature was too cool to use easily during the day. Trees located close to the pool dropped debris, as well, making it less inviting.
Surrounding Area:
The entire area was a visual feast - mountains, hills, vineyards and small villages
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest small village, and can be easily seen from the villa, but it is too far to walk. I would discourage any walkng in the area since the roads are quite narrow.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did stop in Figline enroute and picked up various staples and groceries. They have a supermarket, which you pass on the way in, and a larger COOP supermarket, which is just beyond the turnoff to the villa. The supermarket, at least, is also open on Sunday morning.

Check in and out was very easy, and the owner, was extremely kind and helpful.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful and location PERFECT. We were so close to excellent roads and could spend our days visiting small villages. Close to train station in Figline and could take train to FLorence for the day with no hassle. Cristina and the farmer at the villa were WONDERFUL. Cristina's English is good and she was most helpful.
Unpleasant Surprises:
NOTHING it was wonderful.
Surrounding Area:
The area is beautiful and so full of beautiful, charming towns and villages. We would take day trips and have a wonderful Tuscan lunch at a local small restaurant and then stop at the local market for fresh fish, sausages, cheese, bread, WINE and fruit and cook a wonderful dinner at the villa and relax! So perfect. Felt we really got to live like the people of Tuscany for the week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was about 1 mile away and a good, but tough uphill walk. We went to Mass there on Sunday and got to see the local parade for feast of Corpus Christi. Very small market there and pizzeria. People in Lucolena were so nice and charming.
Tips or Restaurants:
MANY good restaurants. Beautiful hilltop restaurant in Lamole. Bring cards if you like to play. The villa really is very well equipped and markets not far.

They were perfect.

Overall:
The villa is in a very convenient location. The house is generally comfortable and spacious and makes a great base for exploring the Tuscan countryside. We would definitely recommend it to our friends.
Enjoyed Most:
The kitchen and dining room were charming and spacious. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. for us to cook the occasional dinners we ate at home. We spent most of our time at home gathered in these two rooms. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great. It was nice that each room had its own bathroom. The one bedroom and two bathrooms upstairs would be great for kids-teenagers.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The chairs in the living room were rather formal and not particularly comfortable. We spent almost no time in that room. We were surprised that there were no basics in the kitchen. We arrived Saturday evening and had gone grocery shopping on the way because we knew that the stores would be closed on Sunday and Monday, a holiday. We did expect that the kitchen would have at least salt and pepper, but it didn't. Luckily, we had bought other basics such as sugar, napkins, paper towels, etc. Overall, this was a minor issue in our overall very positive experience.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside is beautiful. We went to Figline several times to go grocery shopping and to catch the train to Florence. We went to outlets in Incisa and Montevarchi and found a great trattoria in Incisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. It is within walking distance, but since there are so many other things to do in the area, only a couple of us actually took the time to walk there once.
Tips or Restaurants:
Since arrivals are on Saturday and grocery stores are closed on Sundays, we recommend making sure that you bring basic supplies. One of the bathrooms had a hair dryer, but the others did not. You might want to consider brining your own. It was cool when we arrived. We were told that heating would cost 50 euros per day, so we wore layers. Luckily, it warmed up after a couple of days.

Overall:
RENTVILLAS provided SUPERB service. After I realized I was on the plane waiting for take-off with no rental voucher I called by cell phone and they faxed the needed paperwork to my hotel in Rome! All of my interactions with their staff was professional and very helpful. I would definitely book a villa with them again. All info in the packet sent prior to trip was detailed and a map was included.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was much larger, and more beautiful, than we expected. There are 4 bedrooms with baths on the 1st floor, along with living room and parlor and 2 baths, 1 additional bedroom and parlour on 2nd floor. Very large kitchen and dining room on the basement level. House was immaculate and beautifully furnished!! All staff were accommodating and gracious. The house wine was good - so was the grappa.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The only negative I would say is that you need heat in April, and they don't encourage you to use it. We asked for heat for overnights, I believe it was on from 8pm to 8am. Since we were sightseeing most of the day, not having heat during the day was not an issue. It would be cold in the house if you were planning to be home all day, though. Temperature mid-April was mid-60's, down at least to 40's at night.
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic location for seeing Tuscany area. We took train into Florence 2 days from Figline - easy drive from the villa. Great food everywhere...we took day trips to Greve and Panzano Siena, San Gimignano. Lovely views from villa, and driving through Tuscany. We did find the driving much hillier, with sharp turns, than we had imagined, so buckle your seatbelt.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena, very close. We drove, but you could walk. Little grocery store has many things you will need. Casa del Popolo had great pizza, but also served other entrees. We did follow advice and did our main shopping at FIGLINE Coop on the way in. We heard prices at Greve Coop were higher. Also the drive between FIGLINE and the villa is easier.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great Restaurants we enjoyed - we had 3 teens, and 3 adults. We loved the red sauce and homemade pasta at Bottega Del Moro to south left of main intersection in Greve and were guided to eat there by a local lady.
Just south of Panzano, we enjoyed Fattoria Montagliari - definitely try the wild boar sauce -very excellent. We thought Gusto Leo on Via del Proconsolo 8-10r was great for lunch in Florence. Very nice lunch special-so fresh and delicious! One night we had a blast at Girazole Club Camping VIllage's Vecchio Restaurant. Try the ribs and anything on their grill. Very comfortable for families, great service. Take road from Figline, and it is before Lucolena exit. Also recommend Chef Jacopo for a meal. His food was excellent, and he even did kitchen duty! Order wine or olive oil to ship back home at Le Cantine in Greve. Great selection, fast service and delivery.

Overall:
The villa was large and roomy. Can hold 10 easily. The pool looked great. We went in April so we could not use it. The kids loved the villa. Lots of space and they could play on the grounds. Christina and her son Leonardo were very helpful. The wine they have in the villa was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The tranquility. The villa was set off down a small road. The views out of 3 of the bedrooms were awesome. Private. Very close to lucolena. The train station in Figline was close and we used it a lot.
Unpleasant Surprises:
We went in April and we chose not to use the heat due to the extra charge. It was cold. The kitchen was very cold, and we started a fire in the huge fireplace, but it filled the kitchen with smoke.

Greve, Siena, Florence, Lucca - just a few of the day trips we took. Wonderful location.

We walked to Lucolena several times. It an uphill walk, but all downhill on the way home.

Bring enough clothes. Do not depend on the washing machine. It is very small and takes forever!! There is no dryer.

Overall:
When you check in to the villa you will find that the owner is a very warm, friendly and helpful person. If you need anything she will be there in a matter of minutes. Our last night in the villa we took her suggestion and hired a chef, Jacopo, to come in and prepare a beautiful 4-course meal for the six of us. The meal was outstanding! I would recommend it to anyone. What a treat! My only regret is that we only stayed one week in the villa. We should have taken two weeks, that would have allowed us to take day trips to the surrounding towns and also enjoy the villa and it's surroundings. Additionally, there are several wine and oil producers within 10 kilometers of the villa. Be sure to taste and purchase the local products. They are all very good!
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent. The villa was located in the countryside, yet it was a relatively easy drive to all of the major towns in Tuscany.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The clothes washer was small and it took a long time to do a load of washing. But this is not uncommon in Italy and other parts of Europe.

We loved the fact that we were not surrounded by other tourists. We were the only non-locals in the immediate area.

Lucolena is a small town within 2 kilometers. It was an uphill but easy walk from the villa. Bikes were also available if you chose to ride. Greve is about 8 kilometers from the villa. It has a wonderful bakery, a beautiful little town square and the best place to taste Chianti Classico and other regional wines.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are some very fine restaurants within 10 to 15 kilometers. Do not miss Locanda Borgo Antico in Dimezzano. It is just 1 or 2 kilometers past Lucolena. Ask for the traditional Tuscan menu. The Cinghiale wild boar in chocolate sauce is to die for! They also do a wonderful Bistecca alla fiorentina. Be sure to make reservations. There is a fine restaurant in Lo Panca about 5 kilometers from the villa. The name escapes me, but you can get it from the owner when she checks you into the villa. Another very good restaurant which is an old farmhouse is Cantinetta di Rignana. This one is located in the tiny hamlet of Rignana outside of Greve. Great food and friendly owners. When you call for reservations, make sure to ask for precise directions. It is hard to find but well worth the effort. My last suggestion would be to take the wine tour and tasting followed by dinner at Castello Vicchiomaggio. The castle is located just about 5 kilometers out of Greve on a hilltop with a wonderful view.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was really lovely, very clean, beautifully furnished. The location is spectacular - the views of the vineyards are amazing. The kitchen was fabulous. We used the large fireplace a few times. What atmosphere!! We were there in mid-October and everyone was busy with picking the grapes. It really added to the whole Tuscany experience.
Unpleasant Surprises:
My parents were cold, especially at night. They asked to have the heat turned on, but it didn't work some of the time in their bedroom. Also there was a leak from the bathroom above down to the bedroom directly below. We noticed a large wet spot on the ceiling. We contacted the owner, who in turn called a plumber , but it was not to be fixed until after we left. We just moved over to an adjoining bathroom so it was just one of those things. There was not any inconvenience.
Surrounding Area:
We really enjoyed the vineyards, especially Castello Di Verrazzano We had a lovely wine tasting there and enjoyed the spectacular views from the terrace. And also a nice wine tasting at Castello Vicchiomaggio. Visiting Pisa and Siena was an easy drive. We loved the town of Greve.

The nearest small town was Lucolena, where there was a small market. It was close but nobody walked there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We dined at La Cantina, Giovanni da Verrazzano and Locanda Borgo Antico all in Greve. All really good. Giovanni da Verrazzano has a lovely second floor covered terrace for dining that overlooks the old market square and is a great place for dinner. The pizzas at La Cantina were delicious - the crust so thin and light. The garlic toast and the chicken livers at Giovanni da Verrazzano are not to be missed!

The view from the rooms was excellent. Very peaceful location. Large kitchen and dining room where everyone seemed to congregate. Pictures do not due the villa justice. Five bedrooms with six bathrooms! Good location for getting the train in Figline for Florence. Loved the small town of Greve.

Could use more cooking utensils. Maybe leaving some spices?

Quiet, peaceful setting. Grapevines full and ready to harvest. Great for pictures. Local towns were the best.

Had several days without hot water. Owners were very attentive to the problem and always responded to our calls immediately. The property owners were very concerned and attentive to the problem, and eventually installed a new part. Need to have better instructions on how to operate the upstairs skylights. The switch is very hard to find.

Enjoyed Most:
I liked everything! It is hard to pick out one single thing that was better than the rest. I loved the huge kitchen, but also loved to eat al fresco outside at the large table beside the pool. The bedrooms were comfortable and beautifully furnished in a classic style. The pool was great to cool off in from the 30 degree heat. We had ten of us in the group, but you could barely tell since the place was so spacious.
Surrounding Area:
Again, so much to say! There are so many lovely little towns in easy drive of the villa. Some of our best days were spent exploring a few little towns in the morning and then spending the afternoon by the pool. It is also a short train ride to Florence and many other places. We found that Pisa was an easy day trip, as was Florence and Siena. Lovely little restaurant just two towns over - Locanda Borgo Antico. And, of course, the wine!

The nearest small town is Lucolena, a 15 minute walk. There is a pizza place there with good thin crust pizza. Figline Valderno is a 10-15 minute drive and has a really good COOP for groceries. Greve in Chianti is also about 15 minutes away. Great wine store in the main square, Enoteca del Chinati Classico Gallo Nero.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do your grocery shopping in Figline Valderno, the COOP there has a good selection. The villa is well furnished with towels and linens, so no need to bring any of that. Don't forget spices when you shop, like salt, pepper, sugar, etc.

Overall:
The owner, Christina, was delightful, gracious and helpful. The villa would probably be best enjoyed over a two-week stay. One week was just not enough. This was our first trip to Italy - we're glad we invested in Italian language courses - it made the stay more enjoyable and was most helpful in more remote places. We hope to return soon. While the villa lists a fairly large capacity only two of the rooms have twin beds - the others are all king - queen size - so plan accordingly. What can we say - you will love your stay!

First, the picture did not do justice to the property. It was a beautiful villa that surpassed any expectations we had. The rooms were spacious, the kitchen incredible. That, coupled with the views would make us return in a moment. As other reviewers indicated, the dilemma was trying to decide whether to stay at the villa or enjoy the beautiful scenery of Toscana

The meal we enjoyed at Locanda Antiqua Borga, in Lucolena, was one of the most enjoyable meals of the trip. Try the prosciutto D'oca - unlike anything we have ever had before. We had good meals in Greve but our favorite find in Greve was at the Gelateria on the Main street. Our group voted it the best we found. We appreciated the advice to catch the train from Figline to Firenze - much easier than trying to drive, and inexpensive. As others indicated, it took much more time to drive through the hills of the Chianti than we imagined - we were a little too ambitious in our planning. We made use of the Road Runners service that was included with our voucher packet. The information was excellent and made for some wonderful day trips. We would return to the same villa at the drop of a hat. As one of our group stated it, the worst day at the Villa was better than the best day ever had at Napa.
Directions:
As others indicated - do yourself a favor and arrive during the daytime. We choose to get to the villa via Autostrada-1 exiting at Incisa. This saved a fair amount of time, as we were travelling from Roma.

Overall:
We hope to send you some d photos. This place is wonderfully furnished and appointed. Wine, olive oil and delicacies on the premises. We also did not understand that there were several other smaller apartments attached to the large Villa house, sleeping 4-6 each. We toured them, they are beautiful. A 1000-year old house is up on the hill, still occupied by the resident farmer. A huge patio with outdoor fire grill, lit up at night like the Forum! We're coming back!
Enjoyed Most:
We had 14 people 12 on the property, 2 visitors on site, and we had room for all. Bathrooms were great. Kitchen was a dream for large group cooking. Our hostess was most accomodating. I wish now we would have invited their family to join us at their house!
Unpleasant Surprises:
We had a hard time understanding the washing machine. One couple stayed in and did laundry, and it took the whole day! Just not the same as here...... The Villa has a laundry and shower room for pool users, completely stocked! We just needed a lesson in operating the machine.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding areas were beautiful. However, we did not account for the time it takes to drive even a short distance on winding roads. And of course, we stopped at EVERY turn to take breathtaking photos. I thought we would encounter SOME picturesque areas, but it is all quintessential Tuscany!

Lucolena. Yes, about 1.5 miles. The best pizza I have EVER had is there, in the basement below a tiny bar in the town square. We were directed there by the Villa's owner. My favorite town was Greve in Chianti. Old town square, lovely artisan shops, wine cellar, store, and museum, and beautiful to boot!
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are planning to cook in, plan a few receipes in advance, and bring along the small items. This worked well for us. There is an American coffeemaker Yes! in this Villa. Study your maps before you go! Get directions from city destinations so you take the shortest way in. We lost a lot of time orientating ourselves as we traveled. The maps provided are extremely helpful, but you must look at them before you miss your turn!
Directions:
It is wise to navigate during daylight on the way in! Thanks for the great maps. It may help to know that there is hardly ever advance warning i.e. road signs before you reach your destination or turn.
Check In Out:
We had a thorough tour, except for the washing machine. Our hostess was very kind to come early for check out, as we were on to Rome for the weekend. Settling up accounts was friendly and easily accomplished.

Overall:
The villa itself was wonderful very comfortable in all ways. There are 2 living rooms: the entry parlor had comfortable furniture and was warmer then the formal living room. The formal room had antique furnishings which were very attractive but the furniture wasn't for lounging around. The kitchen was great, very usable. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious with ample closet and drawer spaces. Bathrooms were well appointed and modern. We would return for a longer stay.

Overall:
The house was very pretty, much prettier than you could imagine from the photos. It was very comfortable. The kitchen was huge and well-equipped with an adjoining dining room. The owners were wonderful and responsive to our needs. Signora Maccioni decorated the house herself and each room had charming touches. The pool area was very comfortable - we had some meals outside and enjoyed relaxing in the sun.

Opening the shutters in the morning and seeing the vineyards, the rolling hills, and Lucolena in the distance.

The two bedrooms on the top floor have low sloping ceilings- watch your head. Lighting was dim for reading.

The villa was beautiful and surpassed my expectations. The setting was lovely and we found the location to be perfect for driving to many of the Tuscan towns we wanted to visit.

Those who slept in the front of the house were awakened early every morning by roosters crowing and dogs barking. We had rented two cars and renters should be aware that you must have a car or be grounded for the week. I do not even think you could get to the villa without an automobile.
Surrounding Area:
The location of the villa was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the towns that were within driving distance such as Pisa, Greve, Montefioralle, San Gimignano, and Volterra. not to be missed. We took a train into Florence on two different days and, though we had been there before, it is a beautiful city that has so much to offer - food, art, architecture, history, shopping - that we continue to return time and time again. We also took a tour of a winery and went to a wine tasting. The important decision each day was whether to stay at our lovely villa or travel through the countryside to visit the beautiful hill towns of Tuscany.

We ate at two wonderful restaurants nearby - about a 20-minute drive Ristorante Locanda Borgo Antico in Greve and a pizza place much closer. The woman who owns the villa is very helpful and will provide information about local eating places.

We had written directions and a map and had no trouble finding it. I could see that you would have a problem if you arrived later at night when it was dark.

The pictures did not do it justice. The place was spacious and even with 9 of us we never got in each other's way, even when cooking large dinners. It exceeded our expectations. In almost all aspects it was better than anything we had imagined. The photos do not do justice. It is much more lovely and charming than can possibly be captured in a photo. It was the quintessential Tuscan villa with high ceilings and terra cotta floors and a view to die for. The kitchen was incredible! The owner was also extremely interested in our satisfaction.

Overall:
We loved it! The house was so beautiful! The appliances, fixtures, showers, everything was terrific. The kitchen was great and the amenities were first rate. A good choice for the type of person who likes four stars with a country setting.

The location was beautiful as well, the only negative was its proximity to an auto store. It was rather cold during our stay; we recommend staying here only in warm weather.

There was a well stocked, tiny, local store in Lucolena 1.5 km from the villa - perfect for a morning walk. The Stefano restaurant runs a great place outside of Lucolena but our favorite place as in the tiny town of Lafanca . . . don't miss this restaurant. The European property representatives that we talked to were great; they were friendly, responsive, honest, and helpful.
