- About The Experience

This Provence villa is within walking distance of a town, but not just any town for St Maximin-la Sainte Baume holds such huge historical significance that visitors from all over come for visits to see its renowned basilica which you can read more about later. With regards to the actual accommodation, there are four bedrooms and a private swimming pool with a small outdoor kitchen. If you'd like a change of scenery for the day, several other great French towns are within day trip distance, as is the beach.

This tomb was discovered in 1279 and construction of the basilica began in 1295 and has ever since become a place of interest. Customer Reviews
Overall:
We loved it! Great location for day trips, just 2 miles off a main highway east to west. Spacious. Very good reception from the owner.
Enjoyed Most:
Very spacious and roomy. Very secure and a great location.
Enjoyed Least:
Access to the WiFi. Too long a password was required, and we and had to be in the same room as the router in order to get connected.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the town of St. Maximin de la Baume. Good market and several good restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town of St. Maximin is within easy walking distance of the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
L'Impreiu - good pizzeria with varied menu. Generous portions and friendly atmosphere.
Directions:
Good directions to villa. A GPS is a must if you plan to do day trips in the region.
Check In Out:
Very smooth process thanks to David.

Overall:
We had a very good stay at Villa Murier. Location was excellent, both for running errand in the local town and for ease of travel to sites further afield such as Nice and the Riviera coast as well as to Aix and Avignon.
Enjoyed Most:
The swimming pool was a favorite for everyone.
Enjoyed Least:
There was an ant problem in the kitchen as well as in the bedroom above the kitchen. The hunting dogs nearby were occasionally noisy in the evening.
Surrounding Area:
Artisanal villages abound in easy reach by car. Drives in the surrounding hills were beautiful fields and hills of lavender, wheat, and grapes everywhere. Aix-en-Provence was our favorite "larger city" nearby with many modern and trendy shops. The Coast was easily accessible when driving and our favorite stop was Nice.
Nearby Events or Locales:
St. Maximin was easily walkable several times a day and had nice bakeries as well as restaurants. The Wednesday morning market in St Maximin is unbeatable. Well worth waking early for.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought our own towels for the pool and I recommend this. Make a point of visiting the Wednesday morning market in St. Maximin.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS and found the directions to be excellent.
Check In Out:
Both caretakers were French-speaking only which was not a problem as we are bilingual but it might be problematic for others.

Overall:
The overall experience was fantastic. The house worked well for the group, and the structure of the property and its proximity to town was phenomenal.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool, the kitchen, and the proximity to town is unbeatable.
Enjoyed Least:
The upstairs toilet leaked. The pillows were flat. There needs to be a mop.
Surrounding Area:
The town has some fantastic restaurants: Cote de Jardin and the one in the monastery (can't remember the name).... The marche was wonderful. And the access to Aix was wonderful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
St. Maximin was within walking distance. Great!
