- About The Experience
- Located on the corner of the Var region, this accommodation is great for those who want easy access to St Raphael, Cannes, and St Tropez! Visiting all these world-renowned places will sure be dreams come true but another idea would be to spend some quality time at this holiday rental in Provence and have a candlelit dinner with the family. There's also a nearby natural rock pool nestled in a forest of trees that might be a nice change from lounging in the sun of the French Riviera.
- Location Description
- The villa is located within walking distance of the small medieval village of Tourettes, where although there aren't shops and markets, there are open-air jazz and classical music concerts in the summer. Fayence, which is only three kilometers away, is where you'll find shops, restaurants, cafes, and markets. Perched on a hill and offering great views of the surrounding area, Fayence is known for its four bread ovens that were built in the villa in 1522 by the local bishop, one of which (Le Four du Mitan) a nice museum. If you're looking for a day trip with more glitz and glamour, visit one of the richest towns of the Cote d'Azur: St Raphael! Fill with beaches, boutiques, and bistros, St Raphael also has beautiful seaside mansions, a Romanesque church, and all kinds of different water sport opportunities. A train station is located in town as well so trips up and down the coast (or inland!) are easy and convenient.

Overall:
Excellent! This is a thoughtfully designed & beautiful property with everything you need for a week or two stay (or longer!). We were thrilled, and have highly recommended it to friends. The house, its plantings, and its interior fit the countryside well, and are wonderfully comfortable. Did not see a single scorpion, much to my son's dismay. The keyholders are British and absolutely lovely, warm and welcoming. Couldn't ask for better hosts, they are truly interested in ensuring you have a great vacation, are close by if you need but you may rarely see them.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool. As a mom of youngish kids, I am glad that the pool was not right outside the house door so I don't need to worry about the kids being there unsupervised. It is under lock & key but not far at all, and was easy for me to make lunch in the house and bring it down on a tray. Of course with a kitchen (and toilet) poolside, there really is no need to leave the pool! The view is stunning, not another house in sight, beautiful flowers, decorated and designed with great taste. The veranda is great for morning coffee, and the French doors make the house feel one with the beautiful surroundings. (So well done!) Don't miss the waterfall! The sound of rushing water is great background noise; the stream turns out to be quite small, friendly and beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
Not really unpleasant, but the staircase to the second floor is a spiral that is a little tight for the less nimble. My mother-in-law couldn't go up and down it (she uses a cane). Also, Americans may not be used to the lack of window screens and potential for mosquitoes in the later part of the day (none in the morning). But we just shut everything up at night. The second floor bedrooms have air conditioners.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Go up into Fayence; a postcard perfect town with great authenticity, and so well maintained. (My 10 year old daughter said Fayence was her favorite part of our trip.) Its a treat to "find" it. Walk through Tourettes. If you are in San Tropez, there are restaurants in the flea market area that are good, we had a great waiter at Le Cafe. San Raphael is a great family beach town. Check out the Roman ruins in Frejus, although they may be under renovation. Monaco harbor has fun things for the kids, such as a small roller coaster.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoyed delicious meals at Les Temps de Cerise and at Le France in Fayence, but many great restaurants there. Be sure to go to the square in the evening for markets and music and to see the church; priests in cassocks listening to the music added to the other-worldly scene.
