About The Experience

Imagine yourself in the center of the most exciting city in Spain, in a luxurious Barcelona holiday apartment in the most prestigious part of the city. Public transportation, shops and restaurants are just outside the door. You can explore the city by foot, by bus and by metro, and return to your own luxury rental apartment in Barcelona to gather together with friends and family, spend time catching up with your email, take a nap, or read a book and relax in the spacious living rooms. With this apartment rental in Spain, you will feel as though you are in a period Catalan villa in the very center of the city!

Location Description

The apartment is located in the modernist heart of L'Eixample, the “Expansion” of the city in the 19th Century by the famous architect, Idelfons Cerda, who planned the blocks for residential and commercial property with street-level entrances, three floors, and a large central garden in each block. The area is divided by the spacious boulevard, Passeig de Gracia, which has become an elegant avenue of Art Nouveau buildings. Within a 10-minute walk of the apartment are many of the most interesting architectural buildings, including Gaudi's “La Pedrera”, “Casa Batllo, and “Casa Calvet”, as well as works by Josep Puig I Caldefalch, Llluis Domenec I Montaner, and Salvador Valeri I Pupurull. There is both a metro and bus stop nearby. From the apartment all major services and shops can be found 2-10 minutes away by foot. The Placa Catalunya, the center of the city, is a 10-minute walk.

Nearby Attractions: Barcelona is a mecca of art, architecture, ports, beaches, and restaurants. Ca l’Isidre (reservations required!), offers fresh and traditional Catalan cooking. For a meal of tapas, visit Cal Pep, located near Santa Maria del Mar, Barcelona’s Gothic church. The Bus Turistic (Hop-on/Hop-off tour) offers two lines that stop at over 44 sites within the city. The works of Gaudi, including Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and Casa Batlló, are not to be missed. Seek out the loop of Carrer dels Escudellers, named for the early potters, and which has an assortment of restaurants, shops and a flea market on Saturdays.

Exterior Description

The elegant building was constructed in 1919. The Modernist architect, Bonaventura Conill Montobbio was commissioned for the project by Antonio Serra Felui. The very spacious apartment occupies the entire fourth floor of the building. Many of the original elements of the apartment have been maintained, including the entrance hall stained glass window and the chapel. The architect was a friend of Antoni Gaudi.

Interior Description
(420 m2/4520 ft2)

Fourth Floor (with elevator):

Living Area
An open-plan area of 170 m22/1829 ft consists of two living rooms, a dining room, a lofted office over the main living room, and a hall opposite a chapel. The spacious main living room has two large sofas, a coffee table, and a gas fireplace (no wood). There is also a music system with a CD player and radio. A wooden staircase above the lounge area leads to the loft-office, where there is a desk, a PC with high-speed Internet, and a printer. The other living area, the "Green Room," has a sofa, 4 armchairs, a coffee table, and a 32-inch Satellite TV. There is also a DVD player with 5 films. The dining room has a wooden table for 14 and antique oak parquet flooring. Lighting and AC are remote controlled. The chapel (9 m2/96 ft2), once used for private mass, now contains a small table and two chairs. An adjoining "Games Room" was originally where the curate changed his clothes for mass; now there is a full-size football game from the 1950's, a chessboard, and other games.

Service Area
A service area is made up of the pantry, the kitchen, and the utility room. The pantry has a stainless steel refrigerator with a cold mineral water tap, a sink, and a breakfast bar. The kitchen maintains an old-fashioned charm, with only the electrical appliances and lighting as modern additions. There is a gas cook top, an electric oven, dishwasher, toaster, food mixer, microwave, two coffee makers, a juicer, and top quality pots, pans, utensils, etc. The utility room has a washing machine, dryer, and an ironing board and iron. There are a total of 6 bedrooms: 4 main bedrooms, each 21 m2/226 ft2 in size, have air conditioning. The 2 smaller rooms are 12 m2/129 ft2.

In addition there is a bedside table, an armchair and a closet. This bedroom has an interior view, so there are no double-glazed windows.
Bedrooms 2 and 3: Each bedroom contains two single beds (90 cm) which can be made into upon request. There is a bedside table, small armchairs, and a built-in closet in each bedroom.
Bedroom 4: This bedroom has two single beds (90 cm) that can be combined upon request. There are two bedside tables, two armchairs, a built-in closet and a sink. The view from this bedroom is of the large boulevards; the window is double-glazed for soundproofing.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
The most beautiful place I have ever stayed in. The comfort, the location, the attention to detail, the lovely housekeeper, all conspired to make a perfect experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The space and beauty.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Walking everywhere we needed to go. The neighborhood is full of beautiful buildings.
Tips or Restaurants:
All is provided. We needed nothing more than what was there.

Deborah, September, 2011

Overall:
The apartment was wonderful. We so enjoyed staying there.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was spacious and well furnished, with large living and dining areas. The bedrooms were located in a separate area, which was perfect for those who wanted to get away from the group. The building was architecturally interesting, and the elevator was particularly endearing. We appreciated Adriana's presence every day.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were too hard and one shower was difficult to use because the shower curtain was too small. These were minor issues.
Surrounding Area:
Loved being in the L'Eixample area with architectural wonders all around. Also, nearby bakeries and cafes made it all the more enjoyable.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed Tragaluz and Windsor, and the suggestions at the apartment were very helpful. Also found rooftop pool bar at Claris, with live music guitarist and singer, which was very nice on a moonlit evening.
Directions:
We hired a car to and from airport and for day outing to Costa Brava - also highly recommended.

Nicki, May, 2011

Overall:
It is the most fabulous property we have ever stayed in. But it doesn't feel fancy or formal. It was so comfortable sitting around visiting after meals or in the evenings. WE LOVED IT!!!
Enjoyed Most:
Where to start? 1. The building- until the last day it was a thrill to ride up in the elevator and look out at the arches and stone work as we passed each floor. It felt like a castle. 2. The location- we walked everywhere and never tired of exploring our neighborhood. 3. The beds- so comfortable. 4. The cleanliness - it was spotless, and cleaned beautifully every day. 5. The supplies - there was wine and fruit when we arrived, and the kitchen had everything we could want, dishes, pans, olive oil, jams, etc. 6. The size - the high ceilings, large rooms and spacious lay-out meant that people could easily stay up playing and talking without bothering those who were sleeping. 7. The decor - beautiful, classy, comfortable. This place is perfect!!
Enjoyed Least:
Leaving on Saturday.
Surrounding Area:
You could spend hours enjoying the architecture and exploring all the streets in the L'Eixample area, but could also walk to almost all the places we wanted to visit in Barcelona. When we couldn't walk, the metro was very close, but the taxis are also very cheap, and worth it with 4 people.
Tips or Restaurants:
You don't need to bring a thing
