About the Experience
This small Tuscany farmhouse near Siena is only 10 minutes from the Superstrada between Florence and Siena—an ideal location for reaching the various hill towns throughout Tuscany, most of which are less than an hour away. This cozy, comfortable Tuscany vacation rental within a complex will welcome you home after a day spent exploring and sightseeing. Spend your evenings barbequing or swimming in the pool.
Location
This apartment is located near the village of Costafabbri, just 5 km from the center of historical Siena. It is also about ten minutes' drive from the main Superstrada linking Siena to Florence. This is a convenient and easy way to get around the Tuscan hill towns, most of which are within a radius of about an hours' drive. You're bound to spend lots of time wandering around Siena, enjoying the local atmosphere. This picturesque city is a wonderfully preserved example of the Tuscan Middle Ages, and a treasure trove of gothic palaces, churches, and museums. It's also well known for its exiting bi-annual bareback horse races, the Palio, held on July 2 and August 16. Because this estate is affiliated with a four-star hotel just outside of Siena, about 10 minutes' drive from the property, you are free to use the English-speaking reception services during your stay. There are also computers with internet access in the reception area. As parking in central Siena is often sparse, it is possible to park at the hotel and take a bus number six into the center of town. Bus tickets can be purchased at the hotel reception. You may also decide to take a day trip to San Gimignano, known for its ancient towers and rich history dating back to Etruscan times. And naturally you must see Florence! Take a bus or ride the train for a day trip into the world-famous city of art and culture. Shop for jewelry on the Ponte Vecchio, marvel at Michelangelo's David, and tour the treasures of the Uffizi Gallery. With all there is to see and do, don't forget to spend an hour or two relaxing with a cappuccino in one of the squares before heading home.

    Overall:
The villa has a lovely well-kept pool with deck chairs. Our villa 4 was not numbered and was difficult to identify. A small sign on the driveway would be helpful.
    Enjoyed Most:
The quiet setting amongst the Tuscan hills on the very nicely groomed grounds of the villa immediately adjacent to vineyards.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen is sparsely furnished. Basic things like salt and pepper, etc. would be a big help. The toaster blew breakers.
    Surrounding Area:
There are innumerable ways to enjoy the surrounding area, exploring the roads by car, biking - not the safest way to vacation, touring the city, visiting the Chianti region by car or public transportation.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
There is a grocery store about 15 minute walk from the villa which was very accommodating and friendly. They have all the basics and nice selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, etc. The place has a name but calling it a town is a stretch. There is a telephone there but it didn't work which is not uncommon for public phones in Italy, it seems.
    Tips or Restaurants:
Ask a lot of questions. Locals are not very outgoing but are extremely willing to help if they can. Many times they will take you by the hand and show you or find someone who can understand your question or problem.

    Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful view, the wonderful quiet, the pool was clean and thoughtfully laid out, great views, comfortable chaise lounges, and big enough to swim laps. I logged a mile a day. also, taking afternoon naps in the shade of the trees by the house in a chaise lounge after I moved from the pool. And meals al fresco with the vineyards spread out before us. heaven.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
Kitchen wasn't totally equipped - needed forks and glasses. Fortunately, on Sunday there was an open air market in Siena where we bought inexpensive ones. Some bugs in the house but no big deal...what do you expect in the middle of vineyards and olive trees. It's not a whole lot of space. Good for a couple with two children or one friend. if it's two couples, you'd better get along, or hope for good weather which we had, as the one living room is small. Also, the TV as far as we could work it, only gets Italian and German channels. "The Nanny" is a hoot in German, but bring books.
    Surrounding Area:
Magnificent rolling hills, good for somewhat strenuous biking. Magical mountain towns all around to explore. delicious wines and foods.
    Tips or Restaurants:
Shop Saturday at the supermarket nearby, get all your cooking stuff oil, vinegar, etc., plus TP and paper towels. Restaurants in Siena we liked: La Taverna de Cecco, Via Cecco Angioleri, for traditional Italian recipes. Nello La Taverna, for more nouvelle Italian, more creative - Via del Porrione 28. Both right near Piazza del Campo. In Pienza, Dal Falco trattoria is nice. Try all the local wines.
    Check In Out:
We saw Antonella. She's charming and very helpful.

    Overall:
This is a wonderful property and I would highly recommend it. We'd definitely go back, but not in late November.
    Enjoyed Most:
The setting was amazing and the villa itself is very charming.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
A garden or terrace would have been nice, although we were there late November and it rained the whole time, so we wouldn't have gotten any use out of it. Master bed was very hard - probably my only complaint.
    Surrounding Area:
The setting of the villa among vineyards and gardens was very nice. Very peaceful and picturesque area. Close proximity to Siena and any service you may need. Easy access to all major highways, it was easy to travel around.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
None really within walking distance - or maybe I should say that I wouldn't recommend walking on the narrow roads around the villa as Italian drivers are a little scary! Siena is only a few kilometres away, five minutes max by car. Great grocery store, cheap prices Penny.
    Tips or Restaurants:
You'll need to stock up on toilet paper, soap, dishwasher, and laundry detergent. There were a lot of complaints regarding knives in prior guest comments, but I found it not so bad. They do supply large knives but no steak knives. I had brought 2 with me and it worked out fine.
