AboutTheExperience

A combination of a traditional Greek villa and its underground wine cellar, this Santorini villa for rent offers an authentic taste of island life at its best. Perfect for two families or a group of friends, this accommodation in Santorini has outdoor terraces with panoramic views and a small, refreshing pool. Just step outside your own private courtyard at this Santorini villa for rent and you'll find a path leading to a traditional village famous for its unique wine. Looking for a little more excitement? Go into Fira and see the sights. Santorini is an island, after all, so everything you desire is easily found. And don't worry about grocery shopping until you're ready... this apartment comes stocked with provisions for a couple of meals, so all you have to do is arrive and relax!

LocationDescription

A winding footpath leads from this villa to Megalochori, a quiet, traditional village on an eastward-facing slope. This village is the center of the island's wine production industry, so it's a great area to be if you like to go tasting. The main square is host to a couple of tavernas for eating out in local style. It is about 10 km away from Fira, the cliff-side town looking into the heart of the Caldera. One of Greece's most popular islands, Santorini has a fascinating geological history, as it is of volcanic origin. Throughout recorded history, parts of the island have dropped into the sea, while new islands have suddenly appeared off the coast! The island forms a crescent around the Caldera, or cauldron-- the collapsed center of the volcano. It is an enviable view! Fira is the capital of the island, host to the Archaeological Museum. Its main streets are filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. That's right... Santorini is also famous for its thriving nightlife! Your choices for activities are almost endless... you can relax on red and black sand beaches, take a boat around the islands, hike around the cliffs, go shopping, or even take a ferry to other islands in the area.

ExteriorDescription

This Greek mansion was once owned by one of the most powerful families on the island. Originally, the first floor was inhabited by the family, while the lovely canava served as the winery and cellar. The Vinsanto produced here was exported to Russia, where it was used by the Orthodox Church for holy communion. Today the original structure has been restored to its original splendor, retaining the original layout while taking advantage of the canava for more living space. Outside there are various terraces and also a private swimming pool (5m x 6m).

InteriorDescription

This traditional mansion has been divided into two spacious, self-contained units, rented together with a pool. The first floor residence is furnished in traditional Greek decor, while the cavana beneath is more modern and stylish with its rounded edges and unique cave-like atmosphere. The entrance of the villa leads into a large cobbled courtyard, complete with a small pool. A stone stairway leads to the first floor, where there are large terraces and panoramic views of the village.
First Floor: A traditional, well-equipped kitchen (stove, coffee maker, electric barbecue) leads into a large dining room (seats six) with original wooden floors and vaulted ceiling, perfect for entertaining. There is also a comfortable lounge. The spacious master bedroom has a 180 cm king-size bed. A staircase leads up to a private landing and a second large bedroom with a 180 cm king-size bed. These two rooms share a bathroom with a sink, toilet, and open shower.
Canava (Ground): Carved into the rock face, this former wine cellar provides a cool, relaxing haven during hot summer days. It has been fitted with unique lighting using the distilling troughs carved into the ground. Three large barn-style doors lead from the cobbled courtyard into the various living areas. The traditional kitchen (stove, coffee maker, electric barbecue) leads into a beautifully lit dining room with seating for six. The comfortable lounge opens into an extravagant bathroom with a built-in Jacuzzi (with handheld showerhead), a seating area, and large mirror. The sleeping area consists of a shared seating and dressing area that branches off into two open caves, each with a 140 cm standard double bed. Please note that these two bedrooms do not have doors: they are open to the sitting area. Outside, by the pool, there is a third bedroom with a 140 cm standard double bed and an en suite bathroom with a sink, toilet, and open shower.

    Customer Reviews

    Overall:
We had a wonderful time, and the owner and staff of the villa were very helpful and attentive. They made us feel at home and welcome.
    Enjoyed Most:
The high-level of interior design. This was by far the most "expensive looking" rental we have ever stayed in, and we constantly felt like we were in a 5-star resort. The daily maid service was much welcomed, and we were very thankful that a car rental was taken care of prior to our arrival and waiting for us.
    Unpleasant Surprises:
We couldn't figure out if you could plug the drain in the bathroom in the upstairs unit.
    Surrounding Area:
The village we stayed in was absolutely beautiful. The owners of the villa also own a restaurant at the end of the road, and we were often down there eating and visiting with the other employees. Because they all worked together, if something was wrong with the house, we could just tell anybody down there and they were always eager and willing to help.
    Nearby Events or Locales:
We stayed in a small town, Megalochori. Picture perfect!
    Tips or Restaurants:
This villa came fully stocked, so in the end we didn't need to bring the majority of the kitchen supplies that Rentvillas.com recommended in their orientation packet.
    Directions:
The owner arranged for pick-up to and from the port, so they took all the worry out of arrival.
