Overall:
We loved this villa.
Enjoyed Most:
This villa is very new but with an older look and feel to it so the best of both worlds. The pool area is great - and our family spent a lot of time in between our outings just hanging out - very relaxing. In addition, the grocery store is literally just outside the villa, so that is super convenient, and there is also a really great local bar-coffee house and internet bar just down the street that is really fun.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen is not very well appointed with cooking utensils. Literally no knives and such, so hard to prepare much of a meal.
Surrounding Area:
Love the village that it was in - all of the small shops you need including two tavernas with good food.
Nearby Events or Locales:
This villa is in the town, so it is walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
You have to have a car - and then do a lot of driving - there is so much to see in Crete - get out there and drive.

Overall:
Our experience met, and exceeded, our expectations. I would love to return. The people we met on Crete were some of the nicest and most hospitable I've met anywhere in the world. The owners of the Villa are certainly to be included in that statement.
Enjoyed Most:
We had a fabulous stay at Villa Artemis. It was very hot during our stay, but the AC was very adequate. We all, especially the kids in our group, loved the pool. The owners were delightful. They were accessible and helpful. They actually brought us traditional homemade food. They were very warm and kind. We would highly recommend this property.
Unpleasant Surprises:
I can't think of anything we didn't like about this property, or our experience there.
Surrounding Area:
The village was delightful. There was a grocery market almost next door. We enjoyed buying cheese, olives, bread, etc. Across the main street are smaller streets and alleys that were a treat to explore. We felt we'd gone back in time, and were guests in a very different place. We had unexpected interactions with some of the older people who live back there. This was a wonderful treat. We were struck by the unbelievable hospitality and graciousness of these people. It didn't matter that we often didn't share the same language. This was my favorite part of our experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
This villa is conveniently located in the middle of this small village. There are markets, a bakery, tavernas, and a grill located very near. We didn't locate the pizzeria we'd read about, but that was no problem.
Tips or Restaurants:
We arrived mid day. We looked for a place to walk to for lunch, but didn't find things open at that time. We ended up going to the grocery store and buying bread, cheese, olives and fruit. This ended up being a wonderful meal. We enjoyed eating at the taverna, a few blocks away, and the grill. We were delighted when our server recognized and greeted us on the street the next day.
Directions:
We had a little trouble finding the villa. The directions we received to the village were fine. The meeting point could be a bit clearer, but the owner came and met us, so it was not a big problem. Part of our problem is that it can be very confusing to use cell phones in a different country. It took me several tries to get my calls to go through.
Check In Out:
They were very accommodating and helpful.
