- Location Description
The apartment is situated in a prime location in the center of the medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano, which dates back to the 10th century. San Gimignano is one of the most visited towns in Tuscany and is full of life and things to do. You are steps away from the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and wonderful restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights and play medieval games and have tournaments. If you’d like to explore bigger cities in Italy, a local bus can take you to the town of Poggibonsi where there is a train station that can connect you to destinations like Siena, Florence, or Pisa. Cars are not allowed in the historical center of San Gimignano, but it is possible to ask for special permission in order to reach the house and carry luggage. Overall:
We had a wonderful experience and once we moved to
another apartment in the same building we were enchanted.
S. Gimignano 7 was too noisy for us with windows all
facing a very busy convenience store on the road. We asked if there was a quieter apartment available and were moved to Le Gardin suite the next day. It was fantastic and even included a outdoor balcony overlooking the courtyard. We loved it.
Enjoyed Most:
The overall location of these properties is ideal as it's just inside the walls of San Gimignano. Once we moved to the quieter apartment we were entirely satisfied. Indeed, delighted.
Enjoyed Least:
Street Noise in San Gimignano 7
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano is a wonderful walking location. We were enchanted by the ancient town with its narrow cobbled streets and
the luminous Tuscan countryside right outside the walls.
Tips or Restaurants:
Dozens of nearby restaurants--Quattro Gatti was a favorite. Avoid the tacky tourist shops and buy at
the modern art gallery with the display of San Gimignano in miniature. Their stuff is expensive but truly beautiful and worth taking home.
Check In Out:
Greatly appreciated being able to move easily to quieter apartment at no cost.

Overall:
We absolutely loved it. Everything about our experience in this location was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The fact that we just went out our door and walked about 20 yards onto one of the main streets of San Gimignano. There were benches outside our window to the street and it was a real meeting place for the locals. My only regret was that we didn't understand Italian because it seemed that there were great conversations going on.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing we didn't like about this property. The kitchen area wasn't very big but we did not intend to cook meals there anyway. The coffee and pastry shops were literaly steps away from our door.
Surrounding Area:
We spent one whole day scouting out San Gimignano, drove to Pisa and spent a day there, drove to the Chianti region for a day and then also to Siena for a day. The scenery everywhere is really beautiful. Enjoyed everything about the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Poggibonsi is a 15-minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
I had taken a few things like sponges, baggies, and a sharp knife but honestly didn't need any of it. I guess if you were planning to cook these items might have come in handy but the restaurants were all so close, reasonably priced with excellent food. We didn't have a bad meal.
Directions:
We had a GPS and that was very helpful.
