Located right between Florence and Siena, this apartment rental in the Chianti is in a great spot for day trips throughout Tuscany, from small little hill towns to the wonders of Florence. The nearest town is Panzano in Chianti, which is a short drive or a longer walk. This is a charming little town that began as a medieval castle, and today still retains some of the towers and walls. It is notable for a number of restaurants that are simply divine. Every Sunday morning until 1 pm a market is held on the main square, so you'll be able to get your flowers, vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese, and everything else for the week! There are also some interesting festivals and events throughout the year in the area (see nearby attractions, below). This is a great place to eat out and relax while enjoying the local culture. Also nearby is Greve in Chianti, a little town with a cute market square lined with porticos, the oldest part of the city from when it operated as a stopping place between Florence and Siena. It also has an art museum in the former convent of San Francesco. The area surrounding Panzano and Greve is littered with small hilltop villages, great for exploration, and there are also numerous "castellos" in the countryside that host wine tasting.

Overall:
I just loved Lapo 1. The entire property is exactly what I had pictured Tuscany to look like. The ancient stone structures, the ivy covered stone, the old heavy wooden shutters, the views and landscape really were breath-taking. Overall, Lapo 1 was a wonderful villa and a great vale for the money.
Enjoyed Most:
One of my personal favorite things to do was sit in the old tub upstairs while looking out over the landscape and listening to the farmer in his squeaky tractor and all the other sounds of Tuscany! The kitchen was really charming. The sink which got such bad press was definitely old-Italian-style but very functional and not bad. We had no problem making breakfast, lunch and even a few dinners from that kitchen. There is a new fridge which was really nice! The beds were suprisingly comfortable and the linen was lovely, heavy cotton that had been beautifully laundered. The pool is lovely and there was always plenty of room for visitors to spread out.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The dirt road down to the property is quite bumpy and a challenge for some drivers and also some vehicles, but I thought it added a lot to the overall experience. The interior of Lapo 1 is a bit run down. It's charming for sure and I felt like it was coming home to my Italian grandma's, however, the wall paper in all of the bedrooms is in poor shape and couches downstairs were dirty and unappealing for sitting.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would recommend that visitors bring their own beach towels.

Enjoyed Most:
It was very quiet and relaxing. We had no problems with anything, and it was a great week.
Unpleasant Surprises:
No phone! Driveway was dirt, and it rained hard the first two days we were there, making it treacherous. They had it grated and back up by the 3rd day.
Surrounding Area:
Very beautiful views, great little towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Panzano, which you could not walk to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Turn up the water heater the first day you arrive. They turn it down in between renters. We did not run out of water, and there were 7 of us. Also, the San Cresci winery had the best wine in the area.
Directions:
We had no problems getting to the property with the directions given. Getting out of Florence was an adventure, though.

Overall:
We had a lovely stay. The garden and grounds were beautiful. The view from the swimming pool was outstanding. We had to deal with a lot of insects in the house so I would suggest bringing some mesh camping netting to put over the bedroom windows. The kitchen was well stocked with enough pots, pans and dishes. We cooked about 3-4 nights and enjoyed that. You can buy everything at the local grocery store in Panzano - sponges, soap, etc.
Enjoyed Most:
The buildings and views were beautiful.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen sink was old soapstone with deteriorating wood lining it. There was a bad smell coming from the drain in the sink.
Surrounding Area:
Lovely villages and towns with surrounding vineyards and olive trees.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The closest town was Panzano. It was a 5-minute ride and a possible walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Since there are no screens and lots of bugs trying and succeeding in getting into the house, I would suggest bringing camping screens-mesh to cover the windows - at least in the bedrooms.
