- About The Experience
- When you wake up in the morning and find yourself lying beneath a gorgeous antique canopy bed, you might think you're still dreaming—maybe even sleep-walking, because as you get up and wander through the house, you find yourself in a magnificent Tuscan villa rental, with authentic period furniture, chandeliers, and your own housekeeper! But don't pinch yourself; instead, step outside of this villa in Tuscany for a breath of fresh air as you walk through verdant walled gardens filled with trees and flowers. Still not awake? Bike into nearby Lucca, one of Italy's finest medieval cities-- just a short distance from this villa rental in Tuscany, Italy.
- Location Description
- Outside the walled city of Lucca, visitors can drive in or borrow one of the 3 bicycles on the property to ride in. The city is worth enjoying simply for its medieval charm, but there are also a number of interesting sights to visit. The Duomo di San Martino and the Church of San Michele in Foro are both gorgeous examples of period architecture, while the Casa di Puccini, where the composer was born, has been transformed into a small museum in his honor. You can also climb the 130 foot Torre Guinigi, but on the other hand viewing the tree-topped tower from below might be just as enjoyable… and a lot less work! Nearer the villa, there are also more common pleasures and conveniences: the "Jolly Market" and drugstore, along with "Da Moreno," a pizzeria, are only 500 meters away. If you have an emergency gelato craving, "Angelino" is only three minutes away.

- Exterior Description
- The villa dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Situated outside the walled city of Lucca in a residential area with other villas and houses nearby, this villa has a large front garden full of flowers, fruit trees, and potted lemon trees. The garden is surrounded by an old garden wall, keeping it nicely secluded from the outside world. This villa has been in the same family since it was built. The owner, an artist, manufactures old lucchesi silk fabrics used as house decorations. Her studio is located in the lemon-house (la limonaia), an annex next to the villa. The well maintained villa features terracotta tiled floors and frescoed rooms. Antique furniture and refined upholstery and decoration make the villa elegant and charming, a special stay for art lovers. The private swimming pool is 8.5m in diameter. Customer Reviews
Enjoyed Most:
It was very large, and gave us an "uncrowded" atmosphere. There were 10 of us and we had plenty of room, and bathrooms to be comfortable. It was close to everything we needed and the owners were wonderful.
Unpleasant Surprises:
There was nothing I didn't like! I could have stayed for months!!
Surrounding Area:
Lucca is a wonderful city! Lots of resturants and shopping, and easy to get to. We did side trips to Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Venice. The Lucca train station can get you anywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Not sure of the name of the closest town, but you could take a healthy walk to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner will give you suggestions for restaurants. The Frattoria Mianoche was beautiful and very affordable. Follow directions or you could be lost! Pizza place close by that was delicious! Walking shoes are a must. Anything you forget you can get at the supermarket. When we would get lost, and couldn't find the villa, we always looked for the Carrfore sign, and it always got us back to the area we were looking for.

Overall:
The owner of the property, as well as Mandy, the housekeeper, made our stay pleasant. Mandy came into the house everyday and tidied up. The owner was very helpful calling taxis, making suggestions, and overcoming the language barriers for us.
Enjoyed Most:
We hoped for a palatial villa and we were ecstatic when we arrived. I had the master bedroom and bath and felt like royalty there.
Unpleasant Surprises:
There were many barking dogs in the neighborhood. It seems that security is very important to those living in this area. They would bark during the night and early morning.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the area surrounding the house - the pool, a lovely space containing trees, fruit trees, flowers, etc. There was a space created outside our main door, tables and chairs covered with umbrellas, where we gathered before dinner to sip
our wine.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucca. We rode into town. The walk was a little too far in the heat. Also, there were a lot of cars on the roads and not much space to walk safely. The taxi was not cheap.
Tips or Restaurants:
We cooked two nights. There is a Carrefour within a mile from the house. We were able to find almost everything we needed there. Restaurants were not a problem.
Check In Out:
It went well.

Enjoyed Most:
Luisa, the property manager, was most helpful. The chef was wonderful and Mandie the housekeeper was very helpful. It was a beautiful villa and very centrally located. We had small children with us and they really enjoyed the pool and several of our people used the bikes which were great.
Unpleasant Surprises:
That we had to leave a little earlier - 9:30AM - on Saturday the 15th than anticipated.
Surrounding Area:
Lucca is a terrific town - most interesting and fun. We did have to use our rental car all of the time to get anywhere.
Tips or Restaurants:
We really didn't need our hair driers - all of the bathrooms provided them. The grocery store nearby - Carrefors - was terrific. Had wonderful prepared food. For this villa you do not even have to bring towels for the pool. Everything is provided. Do use the services of the chef.
Directions:
Directions were very good - we had no trouble finding the villa.
