Enjoyed Most:
The view was magnificent. We had a wonderful location and could walk to shops, restaurants, sights, the beach, and church. We also really liked getting a feel for the Italian culture, as this area attracted a lot of natives.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The shower stall was small and not totally enclosed, which made it difficult not to leak water onto the floor.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the proximity to the water and the beauty of the gulf. We also had a variety of restaurants to choose from and the historic castle, fort, and churches to visit. There was also sufficient shopping, both for daily needs and souvenirs.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the middle of Portovenere.
Tips or Restaurants:
Do not bring a car. We had made it known we were bringing a car and had not been advised that parking was so difficult. We enjoyed the restaurants suggested by our host.

Enjoyed Most:
Spacious, well appointed accommodations with wonderful view. Easy access to stores and restaurants.
Unpleasant Surprises:
To cool the bedroom at night we needed to open the shutters and doors, and with the cool breezes came noise from the street below us.
Surrounding Area:
Cingue Terre is unique, picturesque, and provides for lovely days of hiking and ocean lounging. Easy access via train.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Portovenere. Our villa was right in town.

Enjoyed Most:
The view could really not be beat. The apartment terrace was a wonderful place from which to enjoy the view and the passing scene. Location was excellent for the ferries to Cinque Terre, etc. and we really enjoyed joining the evening passegiata every night.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The bathroom was not up to standard. The bath was a real problem for my tall husband with a bad back. You sort of crouch in a small area with your feet in a deep well. Can't really stand and shower without flooding the bathroom. Could not sit straight on the WC without hitting your knees on the bath - tall husband, again. Also, parking is a huge headache in Portovenere - I would not recommend the property for anyone planning to use a car. RE the steps, we did not find them to be an issue at all.
Surrounding Area:
Great natural beauty, many nearby interesting sites, great accessability to the Cinque Terre.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Portovenere is at your feet. Very convenient, without being super-loud - a really unusual combination. It's a fun and lively little town, but very seaside-ish.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were never unhappy with a restaurant - we did stick to simple local dishes. We thought Il Bocce at the end of the esplanade by the castle was a great cosmopolitan type of place, but incredibly expensive and we're used to Manhattan prices! Iseo's yellow fisherman out front is known far and wide as the best spot around.

Enjoyed Most:
Fabulous view and easy walk into the town center. Tonino was great. He picked us up at the train station when we arrived and when he was taking us back at the end of the week, he gave us a tour of La Spezia. The local representative was also very friendly and helpful. They both helped to make our stay in Portovenere very enjoyable
Unpleasant Surprises:
Odd shower in the bathroom as we would have liked to have been able to stand to shower rather than sit.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views, lots of shops and eateries, easy access to other towns and activities. Grocery store very close.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We walked to La Grazie, which was a moderately vigorous hike with nice views, however, there is a section of roadway without pedestrian access. So, we had to go through very quickly to avoid the speedy cars on the winding road.
Tips or Restaurants:
We seemed to have everything we needed and most everything else can be found at the grocery store just down the street. We cooked many meals in the apartment and we also enjoyed the shops and restaurants that we tried in town.
Directions:
Actually, Tonino drove us directly to the property and walked us through.

Overall:
The views were fantastic!
Enjoyed Most:
Eating! We ate a ton and didn't gain any weight! We really enjoyed walking into town. The local property manager was a Sweetheart!
Unpleasant Surprises:
Stairs to reach the apartment. Walking up and down the road was rough; you need to be in good shape. The bathroom is very small. Best for only one couple or one couple with children. Need to have a small car, make sure you do not drink before parking in the garage!
Surrounding Area:
Everthing was beautiful, magnificent, great place for day trips!
Tips or Restaurants:
La Marina d'Antonio was great - close to the Marina, you cannot miss it. The Linguini Vongole was great! La Pino, Il faro and La Lampera were also really good.
Directions:
Arrival went smoothly. We were met in La Spezia at a gas station.

Overall:
We would recommend the property without hesitation, Tonino, the owner, was very nice too. The stairs and hill might be too much for elderly or weak people.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was amazing. The villa and furnishings were very comfortable. It was a pleasure to stay there.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The hike up the hill and the stairs to the top floor was a chore, but well worth it once you get to the beautiful apartment.
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful and convenient to either walk or take the bus.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Portovenere is the town and it was an easy 3-minute walk to the market for food and also the bus stop.
Tips or Restaurants:
It was furnished with everything you would ever need. We cooked most of our evening meals and we looked forward to coming home each night to such a beautiful and cozy retreat.
Directions:
The owner picked us up and took us back to the train station. What a nice man Tonino was.

Overall:
We had a great time - the climb up the hill for the car was interesting the first time up!!!
Enjoyed Most:
A great place with a great view, excellent kitchen accommodations, large and spacious rooms, great terrace for breakfast and late afternoon cheese and wine.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Small bathtub with handheld shower head - with interesting shower door!!!
Surrounding Area:
Cinque Terre is great place to visit - eat and drink. We also took day trips to Pisa, Florence and San Gimignano
Nearby Events or Locales:
The location is in Portovenere - downtown is 5-minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The trattoria with the yellow fisherman out front was the best in town!
