About The Experience
This elegantly restored Crete rental villa offers the appeal of a classic island abode combined with great location in a small village. Wander the small streets by day; float in the pool at your own Greek villa for rent; or drive in to Rethymnon to enjoy some of the island's urban delights. You're sure to spend lots of time relaxing on the patio or in the living room of this Crete holiday villa, just to soak up the charm of this wonderfully authentic abode.
Location Description
This villa is situated in the center of the Venetian-influenced village of Maroulas and overlooks the village church. An ancient town, Maroulas is very quaint and quiet. There are few other residents and only two tavernas and one cafe. The nearest beach is a ten-minute drive from the villa. The nearest supermarkets are about 4 km away, in an area called Platanias. A full selection of shops and services can be found in nearby Rethymnon, the capital of the province. Here you can find ferry connections to mainland Greece, as well as a unique and picturesque Old Town featuring narrow streets, Venetian palaces, and Turkish minarets. There are countless other sights to see in town, including a Venetian Fortezza (where an annual renaissance festival is held), the harbour, and a fine sandy beach-- the longest in Crete, stretching for several kilometers! You'll also enjoy the local tavernas, cafes, and restaurants. If you’re interested in the history of the island you can step into the Historical and Folk Art Museum for a taste of traditional Cretan ceramics, textiles, artifacts, jewelry, and clothing from across the centuries.

There is also a Jacuzzi and a spacious, tri-level upper sun terrace with sea views equipped with umbrellas and lounge chairs. Parking is available outside the villa. The local property representative will meet you at a prearranged place and guide you to the villa. At that point (or, if your arrival time is late, the following day), the representative will answer any questions and introduce you to the spectacular island of Crete. A representative will also remain available on a 24-hour help line for any further assistance you might need.

Customer Reviews

Enjoyed Most:
The rooftop deck afforded great views of the sea. The inner courtyard was quiet, private and peaceful.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen could stand to be bigger and the downstairs bedrooms are musty. We were not pleased with the cleaning services or the fact we could not do our own laundry (no washing machine).
Surrounding Area:
Great tavernas, great walking and hiking. Very peaceful and quiet village.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eat at Taverna Fantastico on top of the hill. Great food. Also the village Taverna is excellent. In the village there is a wonderful herb shop with a very knowledgeable owner who makes great products.

Overall:
Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!
Enjoyed Most:
It's seclusion in the small village of Maroulas was lovely. It was very quiet and peaceful, and was a very welcome break from the city of Athens. It was, however, very easy to get from the house to the various cities in Crete and anywhere on the island we wished to go.
Enjoyed Least:
Although I realize it was designed as a summer home, it was extremely cold. This wasn't a large problem, however.
Surrounding Area:
The view was beautiful, and the village extremely charming. The easy access to Rethymno and from there to the rest of the island was also very convenient.
Nearby Events or Locales:
To really get anything in the way of groceries, cafes, that sort of thing, it was necessary to go to Rethymno, which was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The taverna directly across from the property is excellent, and will also prepare food for you to take home if you don't want to dine out.
Check In Out:
Everyone was extremely friendly and ready to help, and gave us a very warm welcome to the property.
