Located right on Lake Orta, this lovely villa has its own private boat landing, as well as manicured lawns and spectacular views. There is a nearby boat club where it is possible to rent your own boat for the day or week. It is only 1.5km from Orta S.Giulio, where there is a wide range of shops and good restaurants. This charming medieval village has wonderful palaces and lanes that lead to the ancient square facing the lake where the 16th century Palazzotto stands. This is an area rich in Romanesque and Baroque architecture. Lake Orta, to the west of Lake Maggiore, offers an escape from the busier lake scene of the larger Italian Lakes, while offering a variety of water sports, lush vegetation, and many footpaths from villages into the hills and mountains.

Enjoyed Most:
The absolute beauty and the comfort of a home away from home. The privacy and the decorating of the home.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The locks did not work well. One would not unlock so we couldn't use that door. That was an inconvenience. You had to unlock the door from the inside with a key just to go out. The upstairs bathroom did not have a lock and the door didn't shut tight.
Surrounding Area:
The intense beauty of the land. Everywhere we looked there was a breath taking view.
Tips or Restaurants:
Always bring soap. Homes never seem to have soap. Bring a dictionary to help you with the language barrier. That was somewhat of a problem.

Enjoyed Most:
The house was built in the 15th century and nicely restored. It is one of the oldest houses in the area and very unique. The property has a magnificent view of Isola San Giulio, which is especially beautiful at night.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The villa is just off the main road that circles the lake. I underestimated the amount of traffic noise that there would be, especially for the queen bedroom in the back. The house is located right next door to a sailing club so in the afternoons there is quite a bit or noise from people swimming and using the boats. The children laughing and splashing in the water did not bother us, but it added to the noise factor.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! Lago D'orta has fewer tourists than it's better known neighbors, Maggiore and Como. Even the town center in Orta S. Giulio is quieter with fewer shops and restaurants, so go to Lago D'Orta for the beauty and slower pace. It is very fun and interesting to drive around the entire lake and explore the hillsides.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Orta S. Giulio is the best known small town and it is within walking distance from the villa if you do not mind walking on the busy lake road. We drove into Gozzano to do our grocery shopping as it was the closest supermercato.
Tips or Restaurants:
San Salvatore restaurant located in the town of the same name is spectacular. We just happened to learn of it from a local woman. The restaurant has the most amazing home cooked family style meals of risotto, fresh pasta and polenta dishes, plus it overlooks 4 lakes at the same time. It is located between Orta and Maggiore about a good 40 minutes into the mountains from the villa. Take a GPS that can find restaurants when you enter a name because it is unlikely you will find otherwise. Do not let the unpaved and very tiny rural roads put you off. It is well worth the trip. I would recommend you go when it is light out and follow your GPS. Needless to say, there were no tourists but us and the place was absolutely packed on a Thursday night.
Directions:
The directions getting to the area are fine, but the property does not have any address numbers on the gate so it was impossible to be sure we had the right place. The property manager had to stand outside and wave at us as we approached.
Check In Out:
The property manager was great. Very pleasant and helpful and was on time to check us out at 7:00 am to catch a flight.
