- About The Experience
- Sun, clear waters, and sandy beaches make this vacation apartment rental on Lake Garda the perfect place for relaxing but active holidays. Explore hiking trails, go boating, or explore picturesque lakeside villages every time you venture out from your apartment in Italy on Lake Garda. But make no mistake: this Lake Garda accommodation is not simply a place to crash at the end of the day. With elegant, completely frescoed walls and ceilings, this historic apartment in a palazzo is for anyone longing for that really authentic experience and a delightfully romantic atmosphere.
- Location Description
- This antique property is located just at few kilometers from the historical centre of Toscolano Maderno, located on the western side of Lake Garda. With its clear, clean and warm water, sunny beaches, mild climate and Mediterranean vegetation, Lake Garda sits like a small sea set halfway between Venice and Milan. Garda has been a favored spot since Roman times and has been lauded by poets and writers through the ages, including Goethe, Joyce, and D'Annunzio. It unites natural beauty with historical remains, from Roman ruins onward. There are many interesting little towns situated along the coast or up the hills, like Salo, Gardone Riviera, and the beautiful Sirmione, rich with history, culture, good restaurants, and shops. From your apartment it is possible to walk into the village of Toscolano Maderno, where bars, Tabacchi shops, and the delicious Trattoria San Carlo are located. A larger shopping centre with pharmacy, groceries, post office and bank is less than 1 km away, while the nearest train station is in Desenzano del Garda. Sights to see in Toscolano Maderno include the 12th century church of S. Andrea and its Parish (with work by Paolo Veneziano and Paolo Veronese), the Valle delle Cartiere (where the paper-making industry once flourished), the 16th century church of Santi Pietro e Paolo (with sculptures and paintings), and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Benaco (with 16th century frescoes). Around the lake, you can find opportunities and facilities for almost any type of sport or activity you can think of: windsurfing, sailing, golf, rock-climbing, and even bungee jumping! Accessing sights on the opposite side of the lake is made easy by a half-hour ferry connection from Toscolano Maderno to Torri del Benaco, running every 30 minutes.

Overall:
We had a wonderful time!!!
Enjoyed Most:
The uniqueness of staying in a property built and utilized before our American revolution was really nice!
Enjoyed Least:
Uncomfortable seating and poor lighting.
Surrounding Area:
The absolute beauty of Lake Garda and the mountains were spectacular, as was the quality of the food.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Toscono Maderno was in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be prepared for a lot of space, hard floors, and a difficult downstairs bathroom. I recommend patience for the parking garage and joy in the wonderful garden. Good restaurants abound - ask Anne Marie for recommendations.
Directions:
We used a GPS, and it saved us.

Overall:
Wonderful, such a beautiful place, it was hard to leave.
Enjoyed Most:
The beauty of the inside, the beauty of the garden, the ease with which to get to the garden and have our own table and chairs and lounges looking at the lake, swimming in the lake.
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine ruined some of my clothes. We complained to the key holder and she said that she would ask the owner to get a new machine. The keyholder, Annemarie, was very easy to work with and we appreciated all her restaurant suggestions and even just talking with her.
Surrounding Area:
Lakeside dining, walking a few feet to a church that had musical events several times a week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Toscalano and it was easy to walk to shops. Larger shopping was about 2 miles away where the ferries docked and that had even more restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Pizzeria - and I don't like Pizza - was excellent, and right on the lake, wonderful fish and ambiance and service and not very expensive.
Directions:
The garage was handy, hard to get in and out of but the property was built in 1770, what can I say? The garage was exclusively for us and it would have been harder to find parking without it.

Overall:
Fantastic - great house, garden, views of lake. Provided a real opportunity to get into the Italian lifestyle.
Enjoyed Most:
Historic significance of the house, original frescoes etc. Beautiful garden overlooking the lake - had many meals and drinks out there!
Enjoyed Least:
Minor - small bathrooms. Also, the fridge smelled.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful lake, accessible to all parts of lake and surrounding - got up to the Dolomites and then across to famous wine regions, such as Valpolicella.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Toscalano - 5 minute walk to restaurants, cafes, post office, shops. 15 min walk to large supermarket.
Check In Out:
The keyholder was very helpful, as well as local things to visit and also how to get around tips, etc.
