About The Experience
Spend a romantic holiday accommodation in Tuscany, part of a pretty farmhouse estate. Originally the farmhouse granary, this Tuscany rental has been renovated with attention to detail throughout, combining traditional Tuscany style with modern minimalism. The cottage also has a private garden area and shared swimming pool (with the rental farmhouse). Take a drive on picturesque roads past quaint hill towns and spend your days in Livorno, Pisa, Lucca and Florence. Relaxing at your Tuscany accommodation, watching the sun set with a glass of fine wine in your hand---it just doesn’t get much better than this!
Location Description

This simple farmhouse is located in the Tuscany countryside near the village of Lorenzana. Lorenzana has several bars, a food store, post office, restaurants and a pharmacy. From the farmhouse, a bus stop 800 meters away will take you into Pisa and Livorno. Livorno is a seaside town with excellent seafood restaurants. From Livorno, a 15 km drive down the coast will take you into Quercianella and Castiglioncello, lovely coastal villages with shops and wonderful seafood restaurants. Within daytrip distance is Pisa-- known, of course, for its famous leaning tower. Next to the tower there is also the Cathedral of Pisa, completed in 1350. Of course, the tower isn't the only thing in town. Poetry lovers will want to visit Shelley's house and Lord Byron's palace (now the City Archive). There is also a medieval town, the house of Galileo, and countless restaurants, cafes, and...gelato! Volterra is a regional gem where you can truly capture that hilltown experience in full. From the characteristic main piazza to its Roman ruins, Volterra has something from every century all the way back to Etruscan times. Wander along the Etruscan walls, dating from the 4th century BC, or purchase your own alabaster memento in a nearby shop. Visit museums, admire the exterior of a 15th century fortress, or lounge in the Piazza dei Priori, one of the best town squares in the region-- and the site of many historic and often bloody events. There's plenty more to see and do in Volterra, but naturally we also recommend taking a few day trips into Lucca, Florence or Siena.

Nearby Attractions: Lorenzana (bars, food store, post office, restaurants, pharmacy), Livorno (sea, restaurants), Pisa (leaning tower, Cathedral of Pisa, Shelley's house, Lord Byron's palace, house of Galileo, restaurants, cafes), Volterra (4th century Etruscan walls, alabaster, museums, 15th century fortress, Piazza dei Priori), Lucca, Florence, Siena.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
It was fantastic. It was set in the countryside and was very peaceful.
Enjoyed Most:
I liked the view. We could have dinner on the front terrace and see Tuscan hills rolling for miles.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of AC took a while to get used to, but opening the many windows in the house helped keep it cool. Their was also a donkey next door, that made noises throughout the day and night, but we got used to it.
Surrounding Area:
The people were very friendly and landscape was scenic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lorenzana was the nearest town, but it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The housekeeper, Vanda, is wonderful, but she doesn't speak a lick of english, so make sure you have a dictionary. Don't worry about buying VAPE, the house has plenty of it stocked. Bring CD's because they have an old portable CD player in the drawer in the kitchen that is hooked up to loudspeakers -- they had CD's but it was mainly orchestral music. Bring English books. The house has a ton of books, but only one or two of them are in English. There is no TV so be prepared for that.
