About The Experience

This beautiful villa for rent in Tuscany is in a great location - within walking distance of the town of Montalcino and is an ideal starting point for excursions around southern Tuscany. You'll love exploring Siena and the other surrounding towns, but you'll also want to spend plenty of time at this Tuscany vacation villa, which features elegant antique furniture and a lovely garden where you can enjoy watching the sunset while having a glass of Brunello.

Location Description

This Tuscany villa rental is situated right on the edge of the medieval town of Montalcino, known primarily for its fine wine. Wine here is made from the brunello grape, aged for a minimum of 4 years, and has a rich, fruity, powerful taste. That is not Montalcino's only attraction, however, as it is also a characteristic little town, great for exploration and relaxation. Some of the sights include the Duomo of San Salvatore, the Piazza del Popolo with the Palazzo Communale, and the Church of San Francesco with frescoes by Vincenzo Tamagni. Of particular note are the 12th century Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, a beautiful Romanesque montastic church, and the 14th century fortress that dominates the valley. This location is also convenient for day trips to Siena, Florence, and the seaside.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Fantastic. The villa was nicely done with modern amenities while retaining it's old world charm. It was so picturesque, even better than I had hoped for.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful setting with great outside areas to stroll, read, nap or eat. State of the art appliances were an unexpected treat in the kitchen, along with cupboards well stocked for cooking and serving. Wonderful to be able to walk to town for all our needs and leave the car at the villa.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Our visit was during some beautiful Sept weather, so we kept the windows open and we had lots of street noise, barking dogs, and a rooster. All of that became part of our surroundings and experience, but it was not really a quiet setting.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery in every direction. We enjoyed wine tastings at Biondi-Santi and Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona di Bianchini. This is Brunello country!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalcino was within walking distance, which was a wonderful benefit. It allowed our group to come and go as they pleased since they could walk into the village.
Tips or Restaurants:
We arranged to have a chef prepare a meal at the villa on the Sunday after our arrival. This was probably our smartest planning. The chef couple was delightful, giving us pointers around the area, sharing their local produce and providing us with enough left-overs for days. Stock up on toilet paper. This needs to be on the market item list for initial stocking of the villa. We had six ladies in the villa and we had to search out an open market on the Sunday following our arrival.
Directions:
We had lots of issues getting to the property and our 2 hour drive from Rome turned to 5. We did try to use a GPS but we had service issues, so that was nothing to do with the directions to the property. Once we were familiar with the village the directions were obvious, but they were not obvious on our initial entry to town. We took a wrong first turn and never recovered, probably drove around the village an hour. Unfortunately, this was a critical time when a little English from the keyholder or Italian from the guests us might have saved lots of frustration.

Overall:
Enjoyable but could have been better if the dog noise problem was not there. The weather was great and our grandchildren anjoyed the pool.
Enjoyed Most:
Furnishing in the house were exceptional and exceeded our needs for our stay. Garden surrounds very nice and outdoor area very practical for us at meal times.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Noise of the close road and the howling dogs across the road causing sleepless nights and very early morning starts. Cleaning fee excessive and considering the weekly price should have been included.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery and history.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalcino was within walking distance however, considering that we needed a vehicle to get to the Villa, to counteract the noise problem, the location could have been further away from town thus away from the noise problem.
Tips or Restaurants:
Your Booking agent suggested we bring ear plugs!!!!! Make sure agent stresses that the property's pantry is completely bare because if the supermarket is closed there is very little you can buy at the other shops. We tried three restaurants and they ranged from only average to poor.
Directions:
We used a GPS to find the property.
Check In Out:
Unable to access property until 5:00pm a problem. Lanaguage difficulties. No food available as per above. Check out by 9:00am on following Saturday and the check out person did not have correct change for refund of deposit less electricity and cleaning fee and language difference caused embarassment over a small amount of money which we just said, "dont worry about it".
