Sit out on the terrace of this apartment in Liguria to enjoy your morning tea as you watch the boats come and go in the Gulf of Poets, as did Byron and Shelley before you. When you've fully wakened, you can spend the day exploring the village of Portovenere, right outside the door of this Liguria accommodation, or take a ferry to the Cinque Terre. After an amazing authentic Italian dinner, you'll return to this Italian Riviera rental to watch the boats again—this time in the dark, with their twinkling lights bobbing back and forth over the water.

This apartment is located in a building that overlooks the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Poets. It is just at the edge of town, with the beach next door to it. It has a charming terrace, furnished with a table and chairs for two, plus an umbrella, and offers panoramic views of the sea and the island of Palmaria. It is on the second floor, so be prepared to climb, as there is no elevator. From the terraces, there is access to the water, with numerous beaches in the area. There is also a one-car garage, very unusual in Portovenere. Another apartment, I Poeti 2, is located in a building next door. Renting both apartments is a good option for groups of 8.

Overall:
It was so much better than a hotel, especially if you have children. Having separate rooms and a kitchen makes life so much easier. The owner was able to provide amenities to American expectations, while keeping it Italian.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and amenities. Views were spectacular.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The views and ability to see so many different things.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring your appetite, walking shoes, camera and a great attitude.
Directions:
We were picked up by taxi at Genoa, a recommendation from the owner, which was the best thing we could have done. It was not stressful vs. getting on train, then taxi after a long flight into Italy.

Unpleasant Surprises:
Up a fairly steep driveway.
Surrounding Area:
The town and the harbour are fantastic and it is so easy to walk and catch ferries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Portovenere just down the hill.
Directions:
Catch a Taxi from La Spezia. Costs 35 Euros. You won't need a car

Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view and the convenience of being right next to town. we loved the beach, the town was wonderful and the people were very welcoming. The neighbors was great. We loved the owner...she was a welcoming face!
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing really
Surrounding Area:
This area is not as touristy as the Cinque Terre, so the people spoke Italian instead of English to us, which we enjoyed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Le Grazie it was not within walking distance. and then there was La Spezia....great shopping.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the restaurant called La Marina de Antonio. I would say that the apartment has everything you could possibly need.
Directions:
We were picked up and so that was slick. The owner also came back at the end of our week and took us to the car rental place.
