Six apartments that are part of the San Bartolo complex, that have been tastefully renovated with great care, immersed in the classic landscape of the Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. S. Barberino 1-2-3-1C are located in the ancient farmhouse and in the hayloft of the complex, while S. Barberino 4 and 5 are located in the town of Barberino Val d'Elsa, about 200 m from the complex. The apartments S. Barberino 2 and 3 face the main road via Cassia on one side and the internal courtyard and countryside on the other. Panoramic position at the edge of the medieval town of Barberino Val d'Elsa (food shop), on the ancient main road via Cassia that links Rome and Florence. Shared: large equipped lawn with beautiful swimming pool (6x12) in a panoramic position and laundry room (upon payment). Car park inside the property (approx. 200 m from S. Barberino 4 and 5). It is possible to book the S. Barberino 1 apartment for 6 sleeping spaces under the name S. Barberino 1B; in this case the twin bedded room with the small window and skylight will not be available. Comfortable furniture. Central heating. Baby-bed available.
LOCATION: 2 km all kinds of shops and horse riding, 18 km S. Gimignano, 35 km Florence, 40 km Siena and golf course, 45 km Volterra.

Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed being in a structure that was part of the original town. The apartment was rustic and comfortable. There was good parking though, it was downhill from the apartment with the remaining apartments of the complex.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The living room, while comfortable, didn't have enough seating for 5 people to comfortably sit. There was only room for 3 people in comfortable seating. Any others would have to sit at the dining room table. I realize the apartment really did not have the room so this is more for information, not a specific criticism.
The church bells rang every hour on the hour starting at 7:00am until 11:00pm. It took us until the end of the week to finally start to ignore them.
Surrounding Area:
We travelled to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano. The views were wonderful from the terrace of our apartment. It was practically right on the doorstep of two restaurants, which were both quite good but require reservations.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were actually in the town of Barberino Val D'Elsa very near the church, so we were close to everything. The remaining apartments were also in the town but a short walk away.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was free laundry available which was nice, but no dryer. The apartment did have a place to put drying clothes.
The kitchen didn't have an oven but did have a small toaster oven.
As far as purchasing items for the house, you will need soap for dishes and dishwasher, as well as for laundry. There were no condiments in the apartment. However, there was a COOP supermarket in the next town, Tavarnelle Val de Pesa, where you could purchase all needs. There was also a nice little store in town that had great homemade breads, meats, dairy, fruit, etc, for your daily needs. The woman running it didn't speak English but was very pleasant and helpful.
Directions:
We made the mistake of stopping in the town of Tavarnelle by mistake. Fortunately we had a cell phone to call the apartment to get directions.

Cecile, the manager, was very professional and gave us a receipt for our deposit.

Overall:
We can't recommend this property enough!
Enjoyed Most:
The small town of Barbarino Val D'Elsa is perfection! The location is ideal for easy access to Florence and Siena by bus and Chianti hill towns by car. The property was secure, clean and very well appointed. The property manager was delightful and kind. We loved the situation of Unit 5 in the heart of town and enjoyed going to the pool area after a day of sightseeing. We felt very much at home.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The kitchen was too small for us. The kitchen only allowed for one person at a time to get coffee or a snack. This was inconvenient, but we took turns.
Surrounding Area:
Ideal in every possible way! The views from Barbarino were some of the most picturesque. The village had everything we needed, two small markets, bank, and cafe for a morning snack and where bus tickets could be purchased. The Campaniello restautant was our favorite place to eat of all the places we tried in both Northern and Southern Italy. Cesare, the owner, was very gracious and Salvatore, our regular waiter, was one of the family and they treated our son, age 6, like their own. Visits to San Gimignano, Volterra and Montefioralle were quite simple from this locale. Greve was a bit more of a challange.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eat at Campaniello as much as possible! The markets have the best fresh bread, baked right in town and theChianti Classico from Castellina was the best we tried. The pizza place in Barbarino had good food, but poor service.
Check In Out:
Our gas usage was so small that the manager waived the cost entirely. Very kind.

Overall:The property itself was very nice and well decorated. It was very colorful and comfortable.The kitchen was sufficiently supplied.

The balcony and the views.
Unpleasant Surprises:
We had to park down the hill from the complex. The church bells ring from 7am-midnight.
Surrounding Area:
Barberino is a small town but has food and wine shops and a helpful tourist information office.
