Beautiful castle dating back to the year 1000 and restored in 1600 by a noble family, with a magnificent tower built in the same architectural style as that of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. The castle has recently been transformed into a cozy tourist residence run by the present owner. The castle is located in the municipal jurisdiction of Montespertoli in a vast farm estate with vineyards and olive groves. Peaceful and panoramic position. A beautiful terraced garden which is very well kept and equipped surrounds the castle and is where you will find the swimming pool (7x14) (1/4-30/10). The terracings are adorned with original Italian gardens from the 18th century. The castle is 1 km from the hamlet of Montagnana (food shop), 20 km from Florence, 65 km from Pisa (airport). There is daily bus service to Florence. Services of the castle and extras: porter's lodge is open from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on week-days and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays. English speaking staff. Public phone (need phone card) in the courtyard. Parking in front of the castle. It is possible to purchase typical products from the farm in the characteristic bar that is located inside the castle's ancient cellars. The structure has a good restaurant open everyday (excluding Tuesday) for dinners and breakfast. On request to paid for on the spot: baby-bed hire (52 Euro/week) and an additional bed (77 Euro/week), domestic help (12 Euro/hour).

Overall:
We could not have chosen a better location for our first visit to Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting of the property within the grounds of a historical castle added extra interest to our stay, particularly since there were links to historical paintings within the Galleria Uffizi in Florence.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The terraced sitting area was down a flight of steps and not convenient for taking food and drink outside. The setting near a road meant traffic passed regularly from early morning and occasionally disturbed us.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and character of the countryside surrounding the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bacaiano was the nearest village, about 1 kilometer, and could be walked to down a fairly steep hill. It had a small general shop where fresh bread could be purchased daily as well as other provisions, a tobacconists and post office, 2 bars and a fish restaurant.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ensure you bring mosquito repellant, and pool towels. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Leaning Tower at Pisa. Although about an hour's drive from the property, it is the most spectacular experience to climb the Tower and view the rooftops of Pisa City.

Overall:
You should go! I think I could live there!
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the peaceful surroundings, the apartment itself was very cozy and well equipped. Mom and Pop grocers up or down the hill, or the Co-op nearby. The castle restaurant made great Pizza, etc. The pool was quiet and lovely. Close proximity to see lots of great walled towns, etc. Loved it all!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Would not recommend a stay without a car. However, with a car you are in a great location to visit lots of wonderful places - Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano etc. - could never be bored. However, we took a day or two to just take a "vacation" from our vacation and stayed at the castle and enjoyed the beautiful gardens, sunshine and the area's wonderful wines!
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate at the villa or the castle restaurant when we were home. When you get there, there are a few items you will need - spices, condiments if you plan on cooking, dish soap, maybe some napkins. We were not disappointed with this, we were expecting this.
Directions:
Directions at first were confusing because we did not understand where they were starting from! However, once in Italy and on the autostrada it became clear. We found the property with minimum problems.
Check In Out:
The staff EXCELLENT - efficient and ALWAYS pleasant and very accommodating.

Overall: Overall the property was very pleasant. I consider the location to be be very conveniently located, yet still restful. The staff was helpful, but a tour might have been nice to get our bearings. Enjoyed Most: The panaramic vistas (especially at sunset) were fantastic! The apartment itself was nicely decorated, yet sparce. It was great to have two seperate generously sized bathrooms; each attached to the two bedrooms. In addition, the property was located close to a few very nice restaurants at varying price ranges. Unpleasant Surprises: Unfortunately, the apartment was not located in the castle proper which would have been interesting. This might have also cut down on some of the noise from the parking lot which was very close to the apartment but somehow, this really did not cause a lot of disturbance. Surrounding Area: Nearby Events or Locales: This property is located near Montespertoli which was having a week long wine festival. In addition, there was a mind-boggling number of ceramic dealers nearby. Tips or Restaurants: It was not until the end of our time hat we realized that there were good restaurants up the mountain in addition to down.
