This Tuscany vacation rental apartment is excellently located for day trips into Florence and throughout Tuscany. Nearby are the towns of Montagnana and Baccaiano. Perhaps the most enchanting thing about this Tuscany accommodation is the fact that it is an outbuilding of a genuine castle with a picture-perfect tower. Spend your time walking or jogging around the castle, eat fantastic Italian meals at local restaurants, or drive in to Florence to see the sights. From this Tuscany holiday apartment, you have access to it all.

Beautiful castle dating back to the year 1000 and restored in 1600 by a noble family, with a magnificent tower built in the same architectural style as that of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. The castle has recently been transformed into a cozy tourist residence run by the present owner. The castle is located in the municipal jurisdiction of Montespertoli in a vast farm estate with vineyards and olive groves. Peaceful and panoramic position. A beautiful terraced garden which is very well kept and equipped surrounds the castle and is where you will find the swimming pool (7x14) (1/4-30/10). The terracings are adorned with original Italian gardens from the 18th century. The castle is 1 km from the hamlet of Montagnana (food shop), 20 km from Florence, 65 km from Pisa (airport). There is daily bus service to Florence. Services of the castle and extras: porter's lodge is open from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on week-days and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays. English speaking staff. Public phone (need phone card) in the courtyard. Parking in front of the castle. It is possible to purchase typical products from the farm in the characteristic bar that is located inside the castle's ancient cellars. The structure has a good restaurant open everyday (excluding Tuesday) for dinners and breakfast. On request to paid for on the spot: baby-bed hire (52 Euro/week) and an additional bed (77 Euro/week), domestic help (12 Euro/hour).

Enjoyed Most:
It was a very comfortable property for our large 2-family group with 4 children. The bedrooms were good and the common living space roomy enough. The office staff was very friendly and helpful, and walking around the gardens and property was very enjoyable. The joggers in our group had lovely areas for runs.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The fireplace in the living room was tricky to use and smoke backed up into the room even when the winds outside were mild.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside was gorgeous in early spring and was just what I was hoping for in a visit to the Tuscan countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We had excellent meals in local restaurants recommended by the office at Montegufoni. There was a tasting room for a winery just a short walk away from the property.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen did not have any staples such as salt, pepper, paper towels, dishwashing liquid. We purchased these at a local store. However, coffee filters were available and laundry detergent was provided with the washing machines. There's no clothes dryer, so plan ahead for lots of time to hang and dry your clothes, especially if you have damp weather.

Overall:
Overall, the place was just excellent. I would definitely recommend this place. The location, view, the castle itself, the history, and the very clean accommodations were well worth putting up with some loud French tourists and the Germans who stole our table!.
Enjoyed Most:
The castle and grounds were spectacular. The buildings and gardens were very well maintained!
Unpleasant Surprises:
The only downside was the noise. The buildings are close together, and it is very much a family destination. Large families produce a lot of noise! We were three women on our own and would have enjoyed a more adult spot. The main pool was overrun with children. However the second pool was quiet, this one is located on the lower property -- which seemed to be much more peaceful all around---yet, I think this was more luck then anything else, as the children there were simply less rambuctious. Conversely, if you are looking for a family friendly vacation -- this is certainly the place!
Surrounding Area:
The little town up the hill was lovely -- and we were close to Florence, wine country, Siena and Pisa---all the spots we wanted to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Montespertoli and no, it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant selections in Montespertoli are very good, and the employees at the castle were very helpful. Remember that there is an 11 Eu charge per person for final cleaning with a 44 Eu minimum.
Check In Out:
Very easy---very nice staff---very accommodating.

Enjoyed Most:
The fireplace, firm beds, big dining table, and bathrooms.
Unpleasant Surprises:
There was no oven and it took a while to figure out how to get the right 'draw' for the fireplace. Also, we wished we had known that heating was included in the rental price as it was very cold. We were a bit nervous about using the heat as we had no idea of the the cost.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana - yes, about a mile away
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need to purchase cooking/household essentials (salt, pepper, etc) upon arrival.
