Ancient property whose origins date back to around the early 11th century. In the course of the centuries it has been restored a number of times until it assumed its present form in the early 19th century under the property of Marchesi Capponi. The Granduca of Tuscany stayed here during his travels. Situated on a hilltop, Villa del Castagno dominates over the surrounding valleys rich in vineyards and olive groves and is surrounded by oak trees and cypresses. Parking. Telephone. Central heating.

Beautiful setting, fabulous house, great location and gracious hosts.
Enjoyed Most:
The principal rooms are spectacular.
Unpleasant Surprises:
None.
Surrounding Area:
All the major Tuscan sights are within a 45 minute drive.
Visiting San Gimignano, Volterra, Monteriggiano, Siena and Certaldo Alto was easy, and tremendous fun.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Many great towns, vineyards, olive groves
and monasteries are close by.
Tips or Restaurants:
The only thing I would suggest is to bring beach
towels for sitting by the pool.

Overall:
Country elegance. All 14 people in our party were very happy with this villa. Huge rooms, all bedrooms en suite. As we were checking in, one person said, "Ah this is what I was hoping for."
Enjoyed Most:
All the bedrooms were large and comfortable. On site manager and maintenance was very good. Help with arranging dinners and tours was greatly appreciated.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The heat and hot water went out on one side of the building the first night, but it was fixed the first thing next morning. Some construction still going on.
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano, Volterra, Certaldo, rural restaurants and trattorias, wineries. This is Tuscany after all.
