Located in the village of Filettole, near a historic castle, Casa Irma was once the farmhouse on a large estate. Although the estate no longer exists, the house's facade still displays the former noble owner's coat of arms. The house has been fully restored with great attention to original materials and offers all modern comforts. The rustic décor includes old iron farm implements, terracotta pottery, and hand woven fabrics. Casa Irma exudes a warm, cozy atmosphere and includes a large Tuscan stone fireplace, ideal in the winter months. The ground floor living areas open onto the garden (50,000 m2). There is an abundance of flowers, fruit trees, and vineyards. There is an al fresco dining area equipped with a large table and barbecue. There is an above-ground swimming pool. Other outdoor amenities include a tennis court and an equipped playground for children. A paved road and a few meters of gravelled road lead to the house. The caretaker, an excellent traditional Tuscan cook, is available to prepare meals upon request. The nearest village for grocery shopping is Nozzano Castello. Lucca is 12 km from the property and Pisa is 14 km. There is convenient access to the autostrada, which puts the Chianti and hill towns such as San Gimignano within easy reach. Siena is a two-hour drive, while the beach at Viareggio is only a twenty-minute journey. The nearest golf course is located in Forte de Marmi (30 minutes).

(300 m2) Ground floor: The entrance leads into a living room with Tuscan fireplace, satellite TV, and CD player. There is a dining room with access to the garden via French doors. The dining table seats 14 people. The fully equipped kitchen includes a microwave and access to the outdoor loggia. There is one guest bathroom with washing machine. All ground floor windows have screens. 1st floor: There are two double bedrooms with queen-size beds and two twin-bedded rooms. The beds may be pushed together or separated as required. There is one bathroom with tub and shower and one bathroom with shower only. All windows are equipped with screens. The amenities include barbecue, satellite TV, CD player, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, and baby bed. A cook is available on request for dinner (70 €, food and wine not included).

Enjoyed Most:
Perfect location. The location is very handy. The owner is very nice. The place was spacious and clean. The pool was refreshing, but light the citronellas to keep the bugs away.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Lots of outdoor bugs - but it is a garden property. You really have to keep the doors shut. A nice sectional or sofa would be great in the living room. The floor pillows are sparse for adults and the pillow couch wasn't comfortable. We ended up relaxing in the dining room.
Surrounding Area:
Everything was very handy. Filettole did not have much to offer but you are so close to Lucca and Pisa and the main roads.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Filettole. You could walk to town but there is not much happening there. You need to drive for groceries etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Plan to stay in the western side of Toscana. Lucca, Pisa, Prato and the beach towns are wonderful. This house was great for us. There were 2 itineraries that we followed based on the Italian schedule Hang out in the morning, take a swim, lounge and then venture out late afternoon. The towns are great after 4:00pm. Or, get out early, see the sights, grab lunch and then go back and swim and lounge before you make a great dinner from the local pasta and sauce.
