- Treat yourself to this elegant luxury villa in Portugal, located on the ground floor of a renovated farmhouse that dates back at least 100 years. Stroll the gardens of this holiday villa in Portugal in the morning, or walk to the café for a breakfast pastry. Explore local villages in the afternoon, and come back to this Portugal villa rent in the evenings to enjoy the atmosphere created by stone floors and antique furnishings.
- Exterior Description
- This 100-year old property was completely renovated in 2002. The ground floor of the farmhouse is available for rent, while the owner occupies the first and second floors. The owner will not, however, occupy the house if the ground floor is rented. Furnishings are tasteful and comfortable and include a mix of rustic and antique styles. Guests have exclusive use of the walled garden area 2000m2 and new swimming pool (12m x 5m). The river is 300m away and can be seen from the house. There is a nice riverside beach just 2.5 km from the property. Its an excellent spot for swimming and fishing. The town of Braga is 10 km away, while Ponte de Lima is 30 km. The seaside is 40 km from the property. There is a supermarket (4km), a restaurant (3km), and a public telephone (2km) within easy reach.
- Interior Description
- (220m2) There is a living room with fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, and microwave. There are five twin-bedded rooms and four bathrooms. The amenities include baby bed, satellite TV, washing machine, microwave, and barbecue.

Overall:
This was a very nice villa and the owner was very accommodating and the caretaker, Teresa, was exceptional - she did not speak English, but she took care of everything including a new bucket of fire wood every morning.
Enjoyed Most:
The well appointed bedrooms. We had three couples, but two other couples could have shared the property. Also the cost was very reasonable.
Enjoyed Least:
The location and the directions to the property. We got lost before the first turn and had to spend several minutes on the phone to find the place. Simple GPS directions with the town name, Navarra, and the street address would have made it very easy.
Surrounding Area:
We had many very enjoyable day trips and the bakery that was NOT 200 M from the villa was very good.
Nearby Events or Locales:
If Navarra was a town we never saw it other than the bakery and a very small store, but it was not within a reasonable walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was nothing that you need to bring except the normal grocery items. The best reasonably close restaurant was in the Hotel Elevator at Bom Jesus.

Again name Navarra and the street will take you right to the villa

At Check out the owner took us on a tour of the owner's part of the villa which was very interesting.

Overall:
Our extended family, ages from 5 to 78, had a wonderful week. The area is beautiful, the weather was fantastic and the villa exactly what we had hoped for.
Enjoyed Most:
We really enjoyed the pool and appreciated all the extras available for us to use - toys, games and even a sewing kit. We were made to feel most welcome with lots of home comforts.
Enjoyed Least:
We found it very difficult to find the property, driving from Braga. Direction signs in this part of Portugal were erratic!
Surrounding Area:
A day spent driving around the National Park near the Spanish border and another day following a walk described in the Sunflower series of books, again in the National Park, at and around Bruffe.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nearest shop-cafe was a twenty minute walk which was a lovely start to the day with crusty bread for breakfast. We visited the nearby river on a very hot Sunday only to find it swarming with people - quieter during the week.
Tips or Restaurants:
For vegetarians your choice is very limited in this region, although restaurants are very willing to please. Be aware that August - festival time - has many loud fireworks both daytime and night.

Enjoyed Most:
The accommodations are lovely. Our fear that the high windows on the ground floor might make the house dark proved unfounded. All the rooms and bathrooms are spacious, and the stone walls and floor in the living room make it all seem rather grand. The pool and poolhouse are great. The fresh oranges with an automatic juicer were a big treat. Our hosts were very gracious in providing recommendations and making us comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
More lighting in the living room, lamps one could read by, would be nice. We would have liked satellite TV. Some tourist brochures and written recommendations in the apartment would be helpful.
Surrounding Area:
The natural scenery in the area is beautiful, and many of the small towns are charming. We particularly liked the Thursday market at Barcelos and eating lunch at the Bagoeira restaurant that is on the main street just beside the market. We liked the proximity of the river and its big rocks that the kids loved to walk out on.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Navarra, the hamlet in which the house is located, has a pasteleria within walking distance that has good bread and rolls, fresh and warm every morning. There's also a small cafe within walking distance that we didn't try. Otherwise, one drives about 15 mintues to the outskirts of Braga. There is a great supermarket, Carrefours, in a shopping center on the edge of Braga.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you like to cook, bring a sharp knife. If you like games or puzzles, you should bring them.
