This Lake Como accommodation in a villa overlooks the lake and the nearby town of Varenna, populated with beautiful old villas and romantic panoramas. Plentiful olive and cypress trees are evidence of the mild climate in the area around this apartment on Como Lake. Built on a rocky promontory over Lake Como, Varenna itself has been the heart of the area for centuries, an ideal place to explore whenever you decide to leave the privacy of your Lake como rental property. A romantic walkway, abounding in flora, wends along the lakefront in town, linking it to Olivedo, a landing point for ferries and steamers.

Located on a beautiful property with a view of the lake, this villa rental overlooking Lake Como is at the entrance of the estate, just 4 km from the lakeshore town of Varenna. The town is an ideal starting point for a visit to the north/center of Italy, as well as the southern base of the Swiss Alps. Milano Linate airport is only an hour away, while Milano Malpensa airport is less than two hours. Nearby places to visit include the castle of Vezio (5 minutes' walk from the house) and the Villa Monastero, a neo-classical garden offering a long walk along the lakeshore. The resort towns of Lake Como, including Bellagio, Menaggio, and Tramezzo, are all easily accessible by ferry. Other lake Como attractions include ancient monuments, churches, and shopping areas.

(350 m2) Casa Antonella 1 stands amidst a wealth of greenery, looking out over red-tiled roofs to a magnificent lakeshore view. A garden fronts the property, while the back of the house is at the end of a local road that stops five meters from the door. There is also a swimming pool. A beautiful private garden is just outside the door, including a patio with tables and chairs, and shaded by a trellis of wisteria. Old olive and cypress trees dot the property. Just below the house is another small accommodation for four, Casa Antonella 2, with its own terrace and independent access to the garden. If a larger sleeping capacity is necessary, it can be connected to Casa Antonella 1 through one of the double bedrooms, as Casa Antonella 3. There is parking for three cars about 60 meters away from the house. There are 20 steps from the house to the parking area.

Ground floor (160 m2): Recently restored and furnished with care, Casa Antonella 1 has all the comforts of home with an authentic Italian feel. About 10 steps from the garden lead up to the front door. A living room, furnished with a fireplace, two sofas, and a television set, has windows that open onto the garden. A library, well stocked with Italian reading material, is adjacent. Also on the ground floor, a dining room seating 8 offers a beautiful lake view, plus an attached guest bathroom with a toilet and sink. A separate kitchen with refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher provides the opportunity to cook your own authentic Italian meals.
First floor: Stairs to the first floor open into a nice loft area, granting access to a terrace/solarium with a view of the lake. There are also three bedrooms on the first floor: two double bedrooms (with queen-sized beds) and a twin-bedded room. (Please note: one double bedroom can only be accessed through the twin-bedded room.) There are two independent bathrooms upstairs as well, accessible from a hallway: one with shower, the other with a tub, separate shower, and washing machine.
Second floor: Still higher, on a second floor, there is another twin-bedded room, each with an additional pull out bed (sleeping a total of four). This room is most appropriate for children.

Extra Services: Independent heating (metered; charged by consumption), shared tennis court (€15/hr daytime, €20/hr evening; €20/2hrs daytime, €25/2hrs evening). All extra services payable in cash, locally.
Nearby Attractions: Hiking, golf club at Menaggio (4 km + 4 km by ferry), clay tennis court (500 m from the house; maintained by the local tennis club), neighboring lakes (Maggiore, Orta, Garda, Lugano).
Please Note:
Casa Antonella 2 can be connected to Casa Antonella 1 through one of the double bedrooms, becoming Casa Antonella 3. Casa Antonella 1 and 2 can be rented along with Casa Angelina 3, as Tenuta del Lago di Como, perfect for a large group.
Pets are not allowed.

The view of Lake Como and the land on the property.

The kitchen was not very functional.

The landscaping and view of Lake Como was spectacular.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved Ristorante Olievado in the center of Varenna by the port. Great homemade pasta, and the woman who runs the place has a great heart and sass!

Overall:
Everything about the trip was perfect.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds of the property, and its close proximity to Castle Vezio were fantastic. We also explored the various caves on the property.
Unpleasant Surprises:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Castle Vezio was superb. We also took ferries to numerous other towns in the area and spent time exploring them - each one was unique. We also visited Villa Carlotta which I would highly recommend.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Varenna was the closest town and we walked there and back every day.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring comfortable shoes and a back battery or film for your camera. We did a guided tour one day - Lorenza Scorti through the internet - of various villas, such as Villa Carlotta, that included the slow public ferry down to Como. Learning about the history of the various villas along the lake was fantastic.
