Looking for a family experience on Crete? This vacation villa is an excellent choice-- a good value in an excellent location. On the outskirts of Episcopi, this villa in Crete makes it easy to stroll into town for breakfast or grocery shopping. Put the kids on a bus to Rethymnon, where they can explore the fortress, while you wander around town and peek into some ancient Byzantine churches or just hang out at a café. In the afternoon, everyone can regroup back at this holiday villa near Rethymnon for barbecue dinner and a swim.

Location Description

This villa is situated on the outskirts of the village of Episkopi, within easy walking distance of town and a short drive to the longest sandy beach of Crete. Just 1.5 km from the national motorway running from Rethymno to Chania, this villa is also in a very convenient locale for touring the island. Episkopi remains largely untouched by tourism, making this an excellent place for an authentic vacation. Because of its historical significance as the onetime bishopric, you’ll find many Byzantine churches dating back to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. In town there is a bakery, a pastry shop, a butcher shop, and some small supermarkets. If you prefer eating out, there are taverns and “kafeneia,” or traditional Greek cafes. There is also a post office, bank, pharmacy, medical center, gas and police stations, and a bus station. If you’re looking for more active entertainment, 20 minutes’ drive takes you to the golf course in Hersonissos, and you’re also less than 10 minutes’ drive from Watercity, one of Europe’s largest water parks. You’ll also want go into Rethymnon to sample Cretan cuisine and to visit the sixteenth century Venetian Fortezza, imposing in itself but also the location of the annual Rethymnon Renaissance Festival. If you’re interested in the history of the island you may also want to step into the Historical and Folk Art Museum for a taste of traditional Cretan ceramics, textiles, artifacts, jewelry, and clothing from across the centuries.

This two-story villa is built within a large olive plantation and is surrounded by a large flower garden and fruit trees. There is ample parking space outdoors as well as a garage for two small cars. The newly built private swimming pool (8m x 4m, 1.2-1.6m deep) is surrounded by a large lawn area with a barbecue in one corner. The only house nearby is across the street; beyond that, the next house is 300 meters away.

Interior Description

(230 m2)

Ground Floor: Six steps lead up to the front door, which lets into a large lounge with a fireplace and comfortable couches on the right. Large windows have a view of flowers and the garden area. To the left of the entryway, there is another set of couches, along with a satellite TV, CD player, and DVD player. Just behind this sitting area is the open-plan kitchen, fully equipped with a cook-top, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, and all necessary cutlery. A large door leads onto the veranda and the pool area. This floor also has a bedroom with a 150 cm small queen-size bed and a door leading to the garden. A bathroom is equipped with a sink, toilet, shower, tub, and washing machine.

First Floor: A staircase next to the bathroom leads up to the first floor, where a small hallway branches into three bedrooms, each with its own balcony. The first and second bedrooms each have two 90 cm single beds, while the third room has a 150 cm small queen-size bed. They share one bathroom with a sink, toilet, bathtub, and hairdryer.
