The hamlet of Poggiolo is located along an ancient road that once linked Florence to the Mugello valleys. The apartments La Locanda 1 and La Locanda 2 have been created from the careful restoration of an old farmhouse near the manor house and they have at their disposal a swimming pool (6x12) with a changing room and shower, as well as a pleasant loggia equipped with a table and barbecue. Approx. 600 m from the apartments you can find La Locanda di Alberi, an ancient farmhouse with 4 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedded room as well as the caretaker's house. All of the bedrooms on the first floor are equipped with heating, fridge-bar and satellite TV. The guests can use the swimming pool in the complex. In this area there are many pathways where you can go on pleasant walks ranging from easy to more difficult types. Small pets allowed (max. 1 per apartment). The apartments and the mill are tastefully furnished and for the most part consist of period pieces.Parking. Central heating. Baby-bed available

Enjoyed Most:
I love staying in the countryside and being able to drive to Florence. The house was just wonderful and having a pool was an added bonus.
Unpleasant Surprises:
The directions to the property were difficult to follow.
Surrounding Area:
I loved being able to take a walk each morning and see the the surrounding area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was not within walking distance. I was glad that we rented a car to get around.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy the house. Bring bug spray and a light sweater to wear at night.
Check In Out:
It helps to know some Italian.

Overall: The villa was exactly what I wanted. There was plenty of space for the four of us. We each had our own bedroom and bathroom and beautiful views from all rooms. The pool was gorgeous, and heated! I was impressed with the modern bathrooms. Although the man who checked us in, Adelmo, spoke no English, he was extremely gracious and helpful throughout our stay. The location was perfect for our plans, since it is close (3 miles) to a train station. We parked our car in Borgo San Lorenzo each day and took the train into Florence, and from there to Rome or wherever else we wanted to go. Enjoyed Most: I liked most the authentic quality of the furnishings and interiors - it felt like we were living several hundred years ago. I was very impressed with the newness of the bathrooms. The pool was a real plus. I will never forget waking up to the sound of roosters crowing, and throwing open the shutters to the Tuscan sunlight. Our host provided a basket of fruits, teas, and wines bottled on the property. While we were in Siena, the Palio was being run -- very exciting! Unpleasant Surprises: Since we had a child in the group, her mother would have preferred closer proximity to attractions. It was very difficult to get taxis or any kind of transportation. That is not really the fault of the property, but of our planning. Surrounding Area: Very peaceful and beautiful countryside. Train ride to Florence afforded lovely views of the countryside. Just like a postcard. The town of Borgo San Lorenzo was 3 miles away, which is not walkable for me. There was a large supermarket, and several restaurants which we utilized. Tips and Suggestions: Bring a paring knife for the kitchen! I found no mosquitoes, but others did. Learn a little Italian -- neighborhood is very friendly and locals wanted to chat, but I couldn't understand them. Arrive at property for first time in daylight. It was hard to find at night. Vicchio had better restaurants than Borgo San Lorenzo.

Overall: Loved it at first sight. Enjoyed Most: It was roomy. Loved the Tuscan style of decorating. Views were spectacular from the top of the hill, an easy hike away. Unpleasant Surprises: Expensive to use laundry facility. Old rug that was falling apart. Surrounding Area: Was lovely, everything was green, the mountains were beautiful, old castles nearby. Detailed map at the apartment which made it easy to get around.
