Positioned on the top of a lush hill, located halfway between the Tuscany towns of San Gimignano and Poggibonsi, this apartment is perfectly situated for local excursions by car, and day trips to some of the best Tuscan sights. You can do your household shopping at the local PAM in Poggibonsi, ten minutes by car. Turn the other direction, and head into San Gimignano, with its majestic towers guiding you across the Sienese countryside into the Elsa Valley. You will feel as though time stands still in this medieval town, with its palaces, fountains, and ancient architecture. Be sure to visit the Duomo, as well as the churches and piazzas. For a different view of the Chianti countryside, head into Volterra, famous for its Etruscan museums. See the Duomo in this town, too, and marvel at the Renaissance fortress, the Mastio. For longer day trips, try Florence, Pisa, and Lucca. All three are well worth the trip, as you will find the countryside drive is just as gorgeous as the sights in the museums, parks, and art houses. Stop at local vineyards along the way for some regional wine-tasting or local gastronomy. Traditional Tuscan dinners and wine-tasting are also available at your own apartment complex as well, so be sure to indulge yourself in the authentic cuisine.

Ancient complex that belonged to the noble Acciaiuoli family and then to the Royal House of the Savoia family, made up of the manor villa and its annexes. 15 apartments have been created from the attentive and recent restoration, all of which have been tastefully furnished and equipped with all the modern conveniences including air conditioning. Cortennano is situated in a beautiful hillside position halfway between Poggibonsi and San Gimignano. Florence and Siena can easily be reached in about 30 minutes by car. At the guests disposal: equipped outdoor areas, beautiful swimming pool and a large cellar and a garden where it is possible to dine 3 times a week (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) tasting local wines and typical traditional Tuscan dishes. LOCATION: 5 km Poggibonsi, 4 km San Gimignano, 30 km Siena, 40 km Florence. 5 km horse riding and tennis, 12 km golf course, 50 km Florence airport.ACCESS: 2 km of dirt track road.

Enjoyed Most:
The location, the view, and the care with which the property was kept by its committed owners. We also had easy access to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and wine tasting in Chianti. We've rented villas in Tuscany before, but much preferred this location. The view and peacefulness of the spot were extraordinary. The property was restored thoughtfully and maintained beautifully. The pool was clean and lovely. We ate dinners two of the three nights it was offered and enjoyed it immensely. The food was terrific and served on a terrace overlooking the vineyards below. Someone was always available to make reservations or advise us as to where to go and how to get there.
Unpleasant Surprises:
In truth, there was nothing I disliked. The kitchen was fine and fairly well equipped with the basics, including a dishwasher, Italian coffeemaker, and panino press but I missed having a regular oven. Showers were a bit small, especially for my husband or for showering with a small child. But both were small inconveniences.
Surrounding Area:
As noted above, the view of the hills, vineyards, and villas surrounding the property were extraordinary. And the location relative to the heart of Tuscany was outstanding.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano and Poggibonsi were nearest, each a 10-15 minute drive. The proximity to San Gimignano was terrific. We went there on the Sunday after we arrived, finding it open and vibrant on a Sunday also went there several nights for dinner. Proximity to Poggibonsi was helpful in that it was the entry point onto the highway for both Florence and Siena and, a more commercial and residential town, had a large Pam supermarket and other conveniences. We even ate there one night for more of a "local" experience. Future travellers should consider stopping at the Poggibonsi Pam enroute to the villa on the day of their arrival for essentials.
Tips or Restaurants:
The folks at the villa recommended all of our restaurants and made reservations for us. People might want to know that they rent towels for 6 Euros per week, so we really didn't need to bring our own. They also provided adequate toilet paper, shampoo and, I believe, conditioner. They provided dishwasher detergent, but not regular dish soap. Laundry machines were available but extraordinarily small, slow, and expensive at 10 Euros a load. Staff there can book horseback riding tours and cooking classes.

San Gimignano, although it wasn't really within walking distance if you were a senior citizen and/or wanted to shop.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found a fantastic new restaurant in Santa Lucia in the campground which was excellent for dinner and easy to get to. One should also stop at the Pam supermarket at the roundabout from Poggibonsi to get wine, cheese, coffee and other items.

All of Tuscany was easily reached for day trips.
The staff prepared maps for us and showed us how to get back and forth easily. The views were stunning and the people of Italy were very friendly

San Gimignano was about one hour walk.

Il Pino. Meals prepared at the property on Saturday, Tuesday, and Friday night at the villa.
